Trump: "I'm In No Mood to Negotiate," Says He's Not Looking for a Ceasefire with Iran, But Rather "an End"

"An end" to the problem of Iran's nuclear program and, perhaps, an end to Iran's 70 year war on America. Not "an end" to Iran itself. (Though he does seem to now favor regime change.)

Trump gave a 1am press conference last night to knock down claims that he's working to spare Iran and save the Ayatollah.

It sure sounds like he wants Israel to finish the job and take this to an actual end, not just a resumption of the status quo under some "deal." Trump went so far as to say that Iran "giving up entirely" is the goal and that "I'm not too much in the mood to negotiate."

He also reiterated that Iran was "very close" to having a nuclear weapon before the strikes, and vowed again that Iran would not be permitted to have one.

That last quote also included this line when asked about DNI Tulsi Gabbard's assertion in March that Iran had no nuclear weapons program.

TRUMP: I don't care what she said. I think they were very close to having them.

I'd consider that a shot across the bow to those in his administration who have sought to undermine him and push their own foreign policy goals in relation to Iran.

Update: CBD says that Tulsi's quote is being used by the oppressively propagandistic Regime media out-of-context to stir up trouble.

Update: The quote was that Iran isn't currently building a nuke, not that they weren't working hard to build a nuke. Fox News war-whore Jennifer Griffin is misquoting her to push her Democrat/Deep State agenda, as usual. Tulsi has clarified that she and Trump are on the same page with regard to Iran's nuke program.

Sarah Ferris
@sarahnferris

DNI Gabbard tells us she and Trump are "on the same page" when it comes to Iran nuclear timeline

"Pres Trump was saying the same thing that I said in my annual threat assessment back in March. Unfortunately too many people in the media don't care to actually read what I said"

From Biden's dog sniffs a whole lot of malarkey.

Trump noticed that Tucker Carlson has gotten far too big for his little britches and checked him.

Tucker Carlson is now saying that Trump's presidency will end early -- due to his failure to obey the dictates of lifetime babbler and non-productive-worker Tucker Carlson -- and Trump called him "kooky" in response.

kookytuckercarlson.jpg

Trump also pulled out the Big Guns: He implied Tucker Carlson was irrelevant because he doesn't have a network show. That insult is behind-the-times given that no one cares about a network's imprimature any longer, but it does show the level of Trump's annoyance.

When Trump starts talking about your ratings, he's done with you.

As I've said before: Trump has never signed on to the hyper-isolationist's platform. Yes, Trump says he wants peace and wants to be known for making more peace for war. But there is a caveat to that the hyper-isolationists continually refuse to acknowledge: He also talks in a Jacksonian way. He says he wants peace, but always also indicates he will "blow you to hell" if you mess with America.

Trump said he would re-orient America's foreign and military policy to put America's interest first -- not that he would never take a military action against an enemy.

And not that he would affirmatively work to undermine an ally just because Tucker Carlson and some others on the paleo-right have decided that Jews Control the World and it's time to go to war with them.

Again, the hyper-isolationists refuse to acknowledge that and then claim that Trump is betraying them.

No, you're betraying him. He never once signed on to your Code Pink/ANSWER foreign policy agenda. You completely hallucinated that, and then you use your hallucination to claim that Trump is going back on the promise he made you.

14 Yes. This is a different now. We could see right when Israel first started that this would not be a typical "make some noise then go back to situation normal" thing. It was too well gamed out, too well planned, and too well executed to be anything other than putting Iran into existential crisis.

Would have been much more difficult without US support.

Joking aside, the reason the online isolationists are having such a meltdown is actually not even that they are "anti-war". Current events are shattering the illusion that their hot takes are representative or influential. This is why they're so upset.

The reason they have been able to maintain this illusion in their minds despite the fact that President Trump has always been pro-Israel and a hawk on Iran is that the illusion was flattering to them.

Thousands and thousands of likes on their posts about how Churchill was the chief villain of WWII and Israel is the root of all evil went to their head. They thought they had power. The thought they had influence. And now that they've realised they don't they're calling for Trump to be impeached

People getting mad about immigration pull backs make sense. He promised the largest mass deportation program in history.

People getting mad at Trump for Israel attacking Iran and Trump not...stopping it? Makes no sense. Trump is a Jacksonian and is always in favor of punching a bully in the nose, and Iran has been punching Israel (and us to a lesser extent) in the nose for decades. If Trump is publicly aligned with Israel, which he is, then of course he's going to aid, in limited ways like sharing of intel, Israel with knocking at Iran's regime's supports.

Of course he is.

This is not a hard logical progression. It's nothing he really promised, but it fits with who he is, what he's always said he believed, and how he behaves on the global stage.

32 I really don't get the problem with Gabbard's answer to Congressional questioning.

Gabbard said it was the assessment of the intelligence community that "Iran is not currently building a nuclear weapon."

She also said: "Iran's enriched uranium stockpile is at its highest levels and is unprecedented for a state without nuclear weapons."

All of that appears to be entirely accurate. Iran wasn't (and probably still isn't) 'currently building' a nuclear weapon. They very much were sprinting towards the capability to do so with every available resource, and every indicator is that they were trying to get to a place where they COULD be 'currently building' a nuclear wepon.

In their world, EVERYONE is a double-dealing, backstabbing weasel, regardless of what nation they represent, so they assume everyone is like them.

President Trump is a businessman who expects results at the end of the day. He's a man of his word, because that carries a great deal of weight in his world. People can trust him, knowing that he'll get the job done.

46 Since Ace used the Walter Russell Mead term 'Jacksonian' in terms of foreign policy, I'll add (using terms that Mead would use) that the problem with Jeffersonian foreign policy (and the Carlson types Ace doesn't like are Jeffersonians) is that it can't articulate what is a threat worth responding to beyond an actual attack on US soil itself. Jacksonians, Hamiltonians and even the hideous Wilsonians can articulate when foreign intervention is necessary. Jeffersonians cannot. Jefferson himself ended up using the Navy he once opposed to fight Barbary pirates in an undeclared war (thus something against his own supposed principles).

Just because one despises Wilsonians like Bush, Hillary Clinton and Biden who wanted to fight wars everywhere for 'muh democracy' does not mean that one automatically becomes a Jeffersonian peacenik. That ignores the long Jacksonian and Hamiltonian (sometimes called Madisonian) traditions of foreign policy that are more realist than idealist.

75 It occurred to me yesterday that the diplomatic corps that normally handles relations between nation states is wildly out of their depth with respect to President Trump.

Diplomats HATE that because they can't understand it.

Exactly. To the "elites" diplomacy might as well be the boardgame of the same name. People and resources are simply game pieces. Sometime you win, sometimes you lose, but at the end of the day everyone goes home to get ready for the next round tomorrow. Nothing ever gets resolved because no one has any interest in long-term, permanent solutions. Where's the fun in that? Then the game is over!

People have been parsing the "Iran is/isn't building nuclear weapons" for years. The UN "nuclear watchdog," the IAEA claimed Iran had enriched way more Uranium to a much higher degree than they let on. Enough for (in their words) up to a dozen bombs. In weeks. Not months or years.

They were certainly going to build them. They were certainly going to use them. The only question was whether they'd work as advertised.

Gabbard said it was the assessment of the intelligence community that "Iran is not currently building a nuclear weapon."

205 I am old enough to remember in 2015 when Trump won the R nomination in a very crowded field with two dramatic policy breaks from the R party.

1) building a wall on our southern border and stopping massive illegal immigration
And
2) that the Iraq war was a mistake and the intel agencies lied about WMDs to start a war and that our leaders were stupid for getting involved in endless wars.

Annnnd here we are with WMDs in Iraq part two not even ten years later. And it seems no one has learned anything and Trump is now parroting the talking points. How long until the Iranian people welcome us as liberators in the streets of Tehran? Lets see if dick cheney will come back from the D side to sell us on another middle eastern war that never ends and results in no victory. In fact we should see if condi rice and Colin Powell and the gang are still alive and get the band back together.

Who has said such a thing? I don't care what the Iranians think of me as long as they stop being such a bunch of genocidal lunatics. However, it's my guess that most of them would like to rejoin the civilized world, although that won't happen until the mullahs are toast.

Not quite. Comparison with Iraq is more apples and oranges. Saddam had no working reactor as does Iran, inadequate and aging delivery systems via missiles, and slight if any confirmed nuclear enrichment centrifuges.

Iran has confirmed it has centrifuges for enriching uranium specifically and has specifically rejected attempts to limit the degree of enriching well beyond that needed for nuclear fuel.

A lot of the WMD talk about Iraq was related more to chemical and perhaps biological weapons. Apparently from post war interviews, even a lot of Saddam's officers believed that they had them during the Second Gulf War.

255 > Honest question: Why would you use a B-52 and not a stealthy B-21 of B-2? Yes, Iran's air defense system has been degraded, but in this case, you'd need to fly almost directly over Fordow or other targets, because you can't launch a MOP from far away.
----------
The B-21 isn't operational yet.

The B-2 needs to "taken care of." Needs shelter or it's stealth coating deteriorates and there's only 4 of those shelters on DG. Plus, the BUFF's can carry more bombs than either the B-2 or B-1B's.

But the B-2 is (I think) the only aircraft that can deliver the "Massive Ordinance Penetrator" bunker buster.

Even if the warplan is to use the B-2 and MOP they'd either have to load one here in the states, fly it to Iran, drop it, and then either return here or land elsewhere. And you'd fly more than one, in case there was a mishap with one delivery system enroute.

Their fate will be up to them. Historically the Iranian people thrived by commerce and agronomy. They have a core of educated people that's be suppressed by theocracy.

I can claim very little experience in conducting repeated bombing runs on the same target over a period of time.

This said, with enough patience and effort, well...

Seriously, the objective is to neutralize it, eg render it inoperable. Doesn't have to be ground to dust. Access points destroyed, air ventilation systems blocked, etc etc serve a purpose as important as physical damage to the target itself.

Hitting the bunker with about 10 5000 lb bombs probably won't penetrate into the interior, but between the shock and concrete spalling inside it'll hammer the shit out of the equipment, maybe even totally ruining the centrifuges, which are EXTREMELY sensitive and require precise calibration so that they don't self-destruct when they get up to full speed.

So there's still a good reason to hammer the bunker, even with smaller bombs.

419 This whole thing is now in the hands of "the Iranian people." Nether the U.S. nor Israel are going to send actual ground troops into Iran, yet it absolutely requires "boots on the ground" to effect regime change.

Scenario A is that Israel continues to bomb every nuclear and energy site in Iran for a few weeks until the rubble bounces, but no uprising ever happens, and the mullahs remain in power. That's not a bad result, but what wold then happen is that Iran would slowly start re-cnstituting its nuclear program and start building a bomb all over again. Might take ten years instead of one, but they'll get back on that track. So in ten years, we'll have to have a repeat of this week's pre-emotive strike.

Scenario B is exactly like Scenario A, but in this case there is some kind of counter-revolution at the moment the existing Iranian regime is at its weakest. Then presumably the new government will declare itself a non-nuclear state, and everyone goes home happy. I don't even care if he new Iranian government is democratic, monarchist, communist, or less-fundamental Islamist--whatever it might be, it couldn't be worse than the current regime.

From what I've read, after the Mossadeq debacle, he had all the opposition politicians whacked or imprisoned, but didn't touch the clerics. So the clerics filled the void and became the leaders of the opposition.

As I recall, the Reds and leftists were the ones who did most of the work during the Revolution in '79. They'd got to the point where they were close to forcing the Shah out, but needed a last bit of political capital and street muscle to succeed. That's when the mullahs were brought on board, although I can't remember if the Reds specifically asked the Frogs to ship Khomeni in or if the Frogs did it on their own.

Then the Reds relaxed when the Shah's guys ran away, and the mullahs got their people together and started shooting the Reds in the face.

The Princess Gate Iranian Embassy takeover in London that brought the SAS into the public eye in '80 was the last gasp of Iranian Reds when they tried to take over the embassy from the mullah-aligned diplomats there.

Funny how things link together.

>>> As was stated in the previous thread "... different conflicts with different motivations and different strategic considerations for us."

I am opposed to US involvement in the Russia / Ukraine thing. I am opposed because Russia isn't our enemy, Ukraine isn't our ally, and we pretty much set up the entire conflict in the first place. Precisely zero of those things is true where Israel / Iran is concerned.

Yeah, exactly. My case in point.

443 Here's the thing - Israel doesn't need to U.S. bunker busters.

1) Isarel has constantly and continuously surprised everyone with the depth of sophistication of this attack. They have obviously been planning this for years.

2) Anyone think they don't have a plan for every nuclear facility? All of them? Even the most heavily fortified ones?

3) My guess - their plan requires air supremacy, which they have now achieved.

4) Cargo plane, and a massive fucking bomb. It flies low and slow, so needs a safe corridor for the attack.

5) And boomity.

444 Ace and Morons, if I haven't said in the last month or so how much I love you, I am saying it now.

Other blogs, mostly normal with conservative bent, are up in arms (some posters) that "I voted for President Trump to not go to war and keep his promises." Very pie in the sky. In five months, he is trying to STOP war.

Dealing with the eeslam barbarians has never been an easy task. As they are inbred with tribal DNA. Oh, sure, the Dims have helped them over the years since Carter upended everything.

It never occurs to peabrains that the warplanes the MSM are shrieking about just simply could be a show of force? I could be wrong and could be dead tonight from a stray nuke.

I voted for mostly deporting God knows how many bazillions of illegals in this country, who could cause war within. I also voted against the Dims and Kamkook who got us deep into this foreign invasion to start with. I voted for President Trump as he was the best, in my eyes, to swat complete unhinged idiots off like gnats.

No, I did not vote for war. No, I also did not vote for the squabbling hysteria of GOP self kings like Tucker, or the MSM or social media propaganda...who cause wars within conservatives.

447 "First and foremost Iran has allegedly been a week from obtaining a nuclear weapon for my entire adult life. So count me as not convinced that there is some existential threat to the United States brewing in Iran."

The only reason they have had delays is that Israel and the US have repeatedly set back their efforts with covert attacks. But, you cannot count on the luck of succeeding with covert attacks forever.

I'm so tired of hearing all of this crap about Israel "starting a war". The war was started by Iran (using proxy forces; Hamas, Hezbollah) on October 7, 2023. This is just another battle in that war, hopefully the final. As though Israel has no right to finish the fight Iran started in a manner that suits Israel.

It seems like the people who claim Israel "started a war" would claim each punch in a boxing match was a separate fight.

Posted by: Brian at June 17, 2025 02:40 PM (iK8a4)

448 I gotta say, I'm really tired of reading about how Trump is going back on his word on not starting any "NEW WARS".

For the love of Christ, Iran has been at war with the US for nearly FIFTY YEARS.

Who do you think paid for the Marine Barracks bombing in Lebanon ??? As if taking our embassy hostages wasn't enough.
