They were at her apartment a ways down the beach, and they started messing around. It got so hot and heavy that he was exhausted afterwards and passed out there. At seven o'clock the next morning he woke up and exclaimed, "Oh
no!!! My wife's dinner party!!!" He gathered all his clothes, put them on real fast (how long does it take to throw on a toga and buckle some sandals?), grabbed his bucket, and ran out the door. He ran down the beach all the way to his apartment.
He ran up the stairs of his apartment. He was in such a hurry that when he got to the top of the stairs, he dropped the bucket of snails. There were snails all down the stairs. The door opened just then, with a very angry wife standing in the doorway wondering where he's been all this time. He looked at the snails all down the steps, then he looked at her, then back at the snails and said:
"Come on guys, we're almost there!"

So basically where I live, we used to have a Circuit City, they went out of business and Spirit Halloween opened up. Then, we had an Office Max go out of business and Spirit Halloween opened up there. KMart, Chuck-E-Cheese... The way I heard it (probably from "Guns Germs and Steel") was that a Cherokee blacksmith came up with a unique writing system, using some English books as a reference. But he didn't read English, so he ended up using the English alphabet, but each letter has a different/random sound associated with it in Cherokee. Basically, the guy re-created an alphabet by being familiar with the concept of an alphabet, without actually understanding how his example worked...

All those funky characters are syllables in the consonant- vowel - consonant format (C-V-C). The are either stacked vertically or C over V with last C to the right. If there in no leading or following C then a null placeholder is put there. This null placeholder character looks like "0".
They have about ten C sounds and 25 V sounds.
No "L" or "R" sounds, but something in between.
No hard "G" or "K", but something in between.
Hence the steriotype about them getting their Ls and RS mixed up.
Actually it's just us getting them mixed up when we hear them.

Thank you. Yes it is. I'm her oldest and can remember her as a 20 something when life was a little tougher than when my youngest siblings came around. She was strong willed and devout. And would kick a kid or even a grand kids butt when needed.

I've had Starbucks exactly twice in my life, free both times because I voted. Took a sip each time, then dumped the coffee down a sewer grate and the cup into the trash. Burnt coffee. Do not understand it. Don't like whole bean roasts which taste burnt, either, like French roast. I guess I'm a mild to medium roast guy.

That's a good idea. Here's a start. Mom outlived her siblings and most of her friends. She was feeling a little lost after a lifelong friend of her and Dad died a few years ago. She then realized that me, her oldest son, born when she herself was still basically a kid, remembered and could converse about people and events in our mutual past. I was a little nerdy kid who often hung around and listened to the adults talk rather than playing, so in yhe last few years we could talk and compare our memories.

The lack of sleep is torture for me, but even worse for her. She always did have trouble sleeping, and dementia patients are notorious for it, so it's kind of a double whammy for her. It's awful to see her struggle to sleep. I have every sympathy for Michael Jackson, cuz Ive seen my poor mama take 3 Ambien, 2 Ativans, a couple of Trazadones and several 10 MG Melatonin tablets and not even get drowsy. Hallucinations, mind you ,but not so much as a yawn. Had to take all the pills away, because she was forgetting what all she took, and nothing really helps. I'm giving her Trazadone earlier than she wants it, then one more and some melatonin when she actually goes to bed, and it seems to work better than everything at once.

I have my favorite National coffees, like Costa Rican or Jamaican Blue Mtn or even our own Kona from Hawaii. Last two very expensive. I've enjoyed some African beans, some not so much. Coffee, at least national beans, are like wine. Different tastes and strengths for different people. The bean grown and the drying/roasting method used.
I like espresso, but it's strong, not burnt. Of course, there is the mandatory add of some Sambuca. But that's neither here nor there. I also love New Orleans Roast, with the chicory. A local bean place had a recipe for that, with 10% of the mix being dry roasted chicory. It was as good as Cafe du Monde as I could get as far away from the cafe as I was. But's that's pretty much it on the strong, almost burnt stuff. More medium roast is better to me. My stomach seems happier, too.

I've been grinding my own beans (sometimes my gears but those are different stories) since the mid '80s, when I got my first coffee grinder, somewhere around $25-30; lasted for well over twenty years. Now I'm on coffee grinder # 2, again well over 20 years because this one was used; my friend no longer used it so I inherited it. This one's probably around 35 years old now. Coffee grinders last a long time if you don't beat them up. I also like the fresh ground flavor that comes with grinding beans at home, all those just released oils brewed into the pot. That's why I get an oil slick on my pitcher of iced coffee and why I stir before I pour. I don't want to be greedy with the flavor so I redistribute.

It's finding the coffee bean and the ratio per mug that suits your taste buds. For me, three mugs of coffee starts with 3 cups of water, plus a half a cup for the pot. (Leftovers become iced coffee.) My spoon is a certain Naval service tablespoon. Two of those per mug, plus 1 for the half. 7 TBS of beans per 3 mugs, plus a little, of coffee. I grind them not into a powder but a course ground, in pulses, just like using a food processor. If you grind the beans for too long to get that powder, they actually begin to 'cook' from the heat of the spinning blades and it ruins the flavor. Try pulsing if you're not doing that already.
Other than that technical side, like wine, it's all about the bean you like. Not what everybody else likes, what you like. As I said, I really enjoy Costa Rican coffee beans. A pleasant but unique flavor. Same with some of the African ones. Never really bought Asian coffee, except for that Kona.
