Evening and morning, Sunday toilers and insomaniacals. I slept enugh, nominally, but still feel whipped. No idea why.
Maybe it was a dream I recall. I was lying in my enormous warm feather bed in a royal residence or noble hall in Elizabethan times. I wasn't the king, but I was an important enough noble to be invited to stay at one of the king's residences. My wife was with me. Abruptly she shakes my shoulder to tell me she hears footsteps. I hear them too, stealthy ones on the floor below. And I realize that men are coming to kill me. I'm terrified, and am wondering where my knife is . . . and then I wake up. Brrr. Need coffee. FAA has tried to eliminate its dependency on old computing hardware and operating systems before. It has failed. It will fail again.
Eventually taxpayer's dollars will be used to commission the building of old-school hardware and media to keep the existing hardware operational. This will be prohibitively expensive and they'll do it anyway. Posted by: Grumpy and Recalcitrant at June 08, 2025 06:49 AM (O7YUW) 76

A couple of counties south of here is Pulaski county. One of the oldest towns in the state is there, at a river crossing. Some of my ancestors may have come thru there headed west. 30 miles west of there is a very small town that has the same name as my last name. Supposedly though, the guy that the town was named after was not really named that. He took up the name of a family he was traveling with because he was a fugitive.

I do t know what an Eastern Phoebe is; I'll have to look it up. Where FenSpouse and I feed the spayed and neutered cat colony, two vultures have decided it's free breakfast time. They're comical when they hop ,Ferocious bluejays who also want a free meal swoop to attack them. Also, it's kind of an interesting contrast to see what to me seems like a modern version of a bird/dinosaur - the vultures -sitting on a wooden fence right above a beautiful flowering rose bush cause vultures are ugly. The Dems and GOP both have their own side projects for international “democracy” money laundering playgrounds.
The Dem version is the “National Democrat Institute “. The GOP version is the “International Republican Institute”. So if the GOP gets theirs funded then the Dems do, as well. It’s kind of a ‘you scratch my back and I’ll scratch yours’ deal in D.C. that’s been going on since the end of WWII. The NED, like all of these hybrid Govermental/Non-Govermental organizations is controlled by the same DC types who ran USAID, and all the others we heard about earlier this year. It’s a place to send staffers and bureaucrats as a reward by the higher ups. In DC that means lots of leftists running them no matter who runs the White House. Neither of the parties want to give up that gravy train. Posted by: SpeakingOf at June 08, 2025 08:22 AM (6ydKt) 185

The police who work locally around here can take their vehicles home. There was one parked at a house in our little town for a couple months. Must have been on the night shift because the SUV was always in the driveway during the day.
I also think they get some sort of sweetheart deal on rent/mortgage rates because they seem to move around an awful lot. Always trading "up" to nicer digs. Posted by: Martini Farmer at June 08, 2025 08:31 AM (Q4IgG) 199

1. Secretary of State Marco Rubio
Musk, appointed as the "Minister of Government Efficiency" (DOGE), advocated for aggressive staff reductions across federal agencies. During a White House Cabinet meeting, he clashed with Secretary of State Marco Rubio over the pace of downsizing at the State Department. Musk criticized Rubio for not implementing sufficient cuts, despite over 1,500 employees accepting early retirement packages. President Trump intervened, emphasizing that DOGE serves in an advisory capacity, and final personnel decisions rest with departmental leaders. opentools.ai 2. Secretary of Transportation Sean Duffy In a heated exchange, Musk and Secretary of Transportation Sean Duffy disagreed over proposed layoffs of air traffic controllers. Duffy raised concerns about the safety implications of such cuts, while Musk denied the claims and demanded specifics. The confrontation escalated, with Musk accusing Duffy of spreading misinformation. reddit.com 1 of 2 Posted by: Martini Farmer at June 08, 2025 09:19 AM (Q4IgG) 243

3. Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent Reports indicate that Musk and Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent had a physical altercation during a dispute over competing IRS reform proposals. The incident reportedly involved Musk "body-checking" Bessent, leading to a scuffle that required intervention to separate them. President Trump later expressed disapproval of the altercation. nypost.com 4. Vice President J.D. Vance The rift between Musk and President Trump deepened following Musk's criticism of a major spending bill, which he labeled a "disgusting abomination." Musk also accused Trump of withholding information related to Jeffrey Epstein. In response, Vice President J.D. Vance criticized Musk's public attacks on Trump, calling it a "huge mistake." Vance expressed hope for reconciliation but emphasized the need for Musk to moderate his approach. apnews.com thedailybeast.com These disagreements highlight tensions within the administration over the implementation of efficiency reforms and the balance of power between Musk's advisory role and the authority of cabinet officials. The source of the NY Post article on the shoving match is the WaPo saying that it's a quote from Steve Bannon, they man who suggested throwing Musk out of the country
. From the article: "The heated scuffle broke out in mid-April after both men pitched rival plans for the Internal Revenue Service to Trump in the Oval Office, with the president ultimately backing Bessent’s choice, the Washington Post quoted former White House official Steven Bannon as saying." "Elon Musk aggressively body-checked Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent in the White House after being called a fraud "...
... "Bannon told the outlet it took multiple people to break up the playground tussle, before the SpaceX and Tesla founder was quickly removed from the West Wing. “President Trump heard about it and said, ‘This is too much,'” said Bannon, who has long been critical of Musk and his involvement in Trump’s campaign and presidency." ---------------------------- This is a joke.
