The Morning Rant: Minimalist Edition

punk-monkey.jpg

Vice President Vance recently said that the United States was "governed by complete morons" before Donald Trump took office. He was talking about the catastrophe of the Biden administration and their ignorance of the fragility of supply chains, but Gavin Newsom has stepped in admirably to fill in the gaps with not just ignorance, but stunning stupidity!

If that were the only calculation, then anyone who makes more in income than he receives from the federal government could claim the same thing. That is the undeniable reality of a progressive tax system. But is even dumber than that; the Trump administration is threatening to withhold funds from California because they aren't following federal law (Title IX) as currently interpreted. That is a tried and true method for forcing the states to do the federal government's bidding. Remember 55 mph speed limits? And exactly how would California withhold federal tax payments? Order every business to stop withholding federal taxes from their employees' paychecks, and instead send the funds to the state? That's...nuts! Tit-For-Tat simply doesn't work.

Bessent condemns Newsom's 'dangerous' threat to withhold $80B in federal taxes amid trans athlete controversy

If the California governor were to follow through with his threat, Bessent said in a Sunday post on X that it would constitute tax evasion.

Newsom's plan would defraud American taxpayers while leaving California residents on the hook for any unpaid federal taxes, the treasury secretary wrote.

It is of course just bluster, and Treasury Secretary Bessent does an admirable job of making Newsom look like the idiot that he is. But the lack of seriousness is becoming a recurrent theme in California and many other blue states. The hilariously confused charge that there are no riots, but they were made worse by President Trump's mobilization of the National Guard, is an excellent example of the clownish fools we have in many positions of power. A United States senator advocating for more riots to combat ICE's legal activity to protect America from criminal aliens? Or the house minority leader threatening to expose federal agents?

Obviously these people have become complacent over the last generation; they have a compliant media that are unwilling to examine critically even the most outrageous and idiotic pontifications. They have carte blanche to say the most ridiculous things, and advocate for blatantly illegal policies, because the 4th Estate are 100% in the bag for them.

Yet in the grand scheme, this is a good thing. The monopoly that the mainstream media had is no longer extant, and the American people have access to both the stupidity emanating from the political class AND they can see the underlying facts. That is a big reason why Donald Trump is president, and it is an encouraging sign that the titanic shift that so many are predicting may actually occur.

5 So people still have to pay federal taxes in Cali, but Newsom won’t send the money to DC.

That should be a political winner. People love to pay taxes that their governor then gets to keep.

Right?

Yeesh, this is the second week in a row where I gotta kinda sorta disagree with the Drinker.

I strongly suspect that most (all?) movie goers aren't going to see that cuz they'll be caught up in the fun action.

There was only one instance that I can think about where Eve didn't seem comfortable and that was in the first big set piece. I assumed though that that was because it was her first job and she hadn't quite figured things out yet.

But, yeah, coming right on the heels of Mission Impossible was a poor choice for release date.

But here we are. Trump has launched the military against the most articulate Governor of Americas biggest, richest State,

He chose the wrong Governor, the wrong State, on an ultra Stupid occasion: Just in time for tanks for rolling down Pennsylvania Avenue.; Bradleys coming soon, to a neighborhood near you.

Maybe, if LA handles the current situation well. If it goes bad, we'll never hear end of it from trumpsters. LA has handled it well, but I was hoping things would cool off a bit today after weekend.

Trump runs on impulse triggered by simmering rage. Newsom is intelligent, and does a good job of pushing Trump's buttons, showing him to be the insane cretin for all the world to see.

he is by far the best governor to take on donald and the federal government. He is smart, and quick, and has a presence. He's like the male counterpart to AOC or Crockett. What a trio that group would be!!

Is one of those lies that’s also true. It probably takes the total amount of income taxes paid and subtracts the amount of direct payments to the state. And yeah there’s $80B difference.

What it doesn’t count is stuff like the military bases which California has a ton of. It’s all funded by federal dollars. It’s billions of dollars going into the state and generating economic activity. But it’s not a direct payment to California so it doesn’t count in their math. Nor does any money spent by the feds to operate federal buildings or airports or national parks, etc.

She had (maybe still has) a real shot at their nomination in 2028. They want the first woman, she's a governor that isnt as obvious a failure as Newsom, so they can spin her as being successful. She was the target of the FBI-led white supremacist kidnapping hoax, so she has victim points. She's from a critical swing state.

But, she did a couple joint events with Trump, so now the far Left says she's a sell-out traitor.

Illegals Help Film Republican Presidential Campaign Commercial

LOS ANGELES, CA — The Republican Party expressed gratitude to a local group of illegal immigrants who helped film some commercials for the next presidential campaign.
The rowdy group was filmed torching cop cars, looting stores, and waving Mexican flags, providing some "killer" footage for the 2028 race.
"Man, this is great stuff," said one Republican consultant as he reviewed a scene of several illegal immigrants defecating on an American flag while throwing bricks at people's faces. "We couldn't have asked for better footage here. Just 10 seconds will give us a 10-point boost in the polls. Thanks, illegals!"

228 Trump runs on impulse triggered by simmering rage. Newsom is intelligent, and does a good job of pushing Trump's buttons, showing him to be the insane cretin for all the world to see.
---
They still think that they are just one well-placed zinger away from Trump utterly losing composure and collapsing into a spectacular melt-down.

Recall: Prior to the debate with Biden, they were all giddy and panting with excitement that finally--FINALLY--someone was going to call Trump a felon to his face, going to confront him for all his evil.

Biden did exactly what they built alters in prayer for and ... nothing.

But this time, this time for sure, it'll work!

238 Marcus @47 I've been pointing out that the fed troops have a very limited role (so far). I suspect that won't change. There are several strategeries for overwhelming the "resistance" to ICE operations, including moving your focus around, as appears to already be happening. And waiting out the "hotspots", which probably will fizzle before long.

I'm really curious about what business ICE plans in areas like the San Gabriel Valley, where the flag on the map would be of Chy-nah, not Mexico. Gotta be lots of targets there, including many in the "special interest", not criminal, category.

Anyone here who lives down by the Southern border, and particularly in TX, understands the dynamic of those who really do just want to work and support their families, and how much those who are legal via whatever means detest the fence hoppers. Most of those here legally are from Mexico but there is a very solid fraction from South and Central America on work permits.

... And these are not *any* of the people Biden let in, or those who came in during one of Obama's aborted pushes (for those forgetting, Obama backed out of the suicide pact with the EU long enough to ensure the EU is burning down first... the Biden invasion was originally planned for 2015)

265 The estimated and some actual election results from 2024 confirm Trump's "Hispanic" support, I thought. In 2020 he flipped TX border counties that had never (I think, ever) voted for GOP prez candidate. That was pretty striking.

It's not puzzling. The rather confected "Hispanic" category does in fact group lots of people who are more normal (by historical standards) in terms of values and lifestyles than your freak luxury believe suburban whites. There's no country or culture outside Canada and Europe from which any immigrant will be leaving a less "conservative" place (talking basic values). Mexico sadly is more complicated, partly due to the cross-border non-assimilation phenomenon that really doesn't apply to others. But most of the pathologies in that picture developed on the US side.

Of course when you look at economic "values" there's a pronounced bias towards statist or welfare-centric mentality for many immigrants, compared to the US genpop, but sadly that gap has seemed to close a bit.
