Animal Bandits Cafe

pontdugardtallest.jpg
The Pont du Gard, the tallest of the Roman aqueducts
by Roberto Ferrari

Every dog is a food-thief. Even the goodest boys.

Beware the police dog! Very dangerous!

Martian sunset.

Shopkeeper adopts a cat who keeps wandering in to steal his snacks.

This dog has lost all of his primal instincts.

Buffalo crossing a stream.

A brand-new spring opens up in Scotland.

A couple of goofy donkeys may give you a smile.

Donkey is bamboozled by a mural.

Geese are equally hoodwinked.

Soccer bull.

On Monday I posted about the hungry elephant who wandered into a convenience store in Thailand helped himself to the eggs and rice cakes.

Careful not to tip it over, fellas.

16 Willowed - Blonde Morticia, I have no doubt that due to the collapsed civic culture Homan and DOJ have a tricky set of pitfalls to avoid. Juries in most of "blue" "America" are unlikely to convict a public official who's obviously guilty of flagrantly committing felonies (as many thousands are WRT immigration law, aiding/sheltering).

And with one idiotic jury pulling an OJ, it will be formally and undeniably confirmed that the last shred of rule of law has simply vanished, beyond that which can be enforced by federal action.

But wondering if the incitement angle, where these vile worms are slandering and raising the threat level for ICE and others, might be easier to get a conviction. Probably not.

I fully embrace that there has been grift as long as there has been government. But I truly believe the "compounding" effect didn't fully kick in until the last 20 years or so. I believe that even liberal shitholes like Oakland and Chicago and NYC once upon a time used to believe that you had to fix the potholes (so to speak) to get to stay in line for the grifting buffet.

But at some point EVERY politician just figured out "The hell with this" and made EVERYTHING about the grift, figuring (correctly) that the more the money the more the power to fix elections and buy off judges and electorates and vote counters. At some point it all flipped, and we went from "some of the system is bad" to "most of the system is downright fraud and grift and evil, and what little of it isn't will be snuffed out shortly."

Posted by: Mike Hammer, etc., etc. at June 05, 2025 07:53 PM

Surfiet has traveled farther from Latin than paucity has.

It's Latin root is facere. The 'c' was dropped on the path from Old French to Middle English, where facere became faire ("to do") and sur- was added to make the verb surfaire, meaning "to overdo." It is the Anglo-French noun surfet ("excess"), however, that Middle English borrowed, eventually settling on the spelling surfeit.

You know ... I kind of saw this. Back during Obama.

GE Appliance Park dedicated an entire building ... and granted, they were about 1/3 what they were back in the 60s when Louisville was cranking out appliances ... but yet, an entire building, and funding, to that stupid fucking hybrid water heater.

Yet people followed, because Obama and Jeff Immelt thought they were going to re-create the FDR era. They were simply going to create demand. They were just going to wave money and people would follow, obey, and innovate.

I wonder about Musk. Because he's got where he is, in not short part, by taking money that wasn't his.

We hired a Band, who somehow didn't get told it was a Toga Party, and when they showed up in normal clothes, some of our Navy Ladies took them off, and dressed them in Togas... and that was BEFORE the party started.

121 >>This all started because Musk shit on Trump’s BBB that he has been working hard to get passed for weeks.

The most ironic part of all of this is almost nobody has actually read a single thing that's in the bill or knows how this byzantine process actually works. And that seems to include Musk. A lot of screaming with almost zero content.

I've heard for 2 weeks now that ZOMG there will only be $9.4 billion in DOGE cuts! Uh, no. That's the first of what will be a number of bills and that is only one means of actually cutting discretionary spending.

That's the most disappointing part about Musk's meltdown. He's supposed to be really smart and after spending 3 months as Trump's boo he still doesn't even seem to understand what's happening. Government is not business. The CEO of the government doesn't get to make unilateral decisions.

I have no idea why Musk decided to start this war but he seems really uninformed for such a smart guy.

The answer isn't to import more. The answer is to let the market suffer a little, prices to go higher for the skill, so that more want to do it.

And I can assure you this ... we lack "base level engineer / technicians". The same level of know-how that was present back in the day.

I've seen W borrow a trillion for the banks, and Obama swear we need to borrow half a trillion every year because of it, and then every after to the point where we now claim about 4 Trillion and spend about 6 Trillion ... give or take.

No - I don't believe we need to "prime the pump" anymore with tax breaks or block grants. We need to stop spending and printing.

We're not going to borrow our way out of this.

Maybe because Democrats were fucking with him and his businesses non-stop. They cost him $30+ million personally in the Delaware stock case after he bought Twitter.

I have nothing but admiration for Musk for buying Twitter, and I don't think this is hyperbole, and helping save free speech. That's something that will be talked about in history books long after we are gone.

And he's obviously brilliant when it comes to creating shit. He's a visionary and from all accounts a ruthless workaholic. But that doesn't mean he knows dick about how government works.

Does anyone really think Trump doesn't want to cut the corruption and bloat out of government and cut spending? Does anyone think Bessent and Trump's entire team doesn't want to cut this insane spending and cut the debt? Does anyone not understand neither Trump nor Musk runs Congress?

Trump could refute this by making them public, assuming that's true.

But as you say that's never happening. Despite all the talk.

So I think he deserves that particular black eye. He's earned it.

Not that it's likely to sway anyone on anything.

AS I understand it, if they do appropriations with good cuts in them via regular order with each bill up for a vote, the Dems in the Senate can and will filibuster which can only be broken with 60 votes to move the bill.

Which is why they've gone the reconciliation bill route, which only requires 51 votes.

But there are rules to what you can use reconciliation for.
Which is why they want to get this thing through as is, and then come back later with rescissions in future bills.

It's complicated but the theory is sound.

Whether it will actually happen that way is another story entirely.

Tariffs are a nothing burger after all the pauses. They made a big deal of arresting 1500 illegals in May in Mass. out of 40 million nationally.

Yeah it’s better than 0 arrests. But it’s still a rounding error. At this rate it will take a few hundred years to deport them all.

This isn’t new to anyone except idealists like Musk. He’s thus far been able to largely create his own reality. That’s not life for most of us.

Government has been this way from the beginning. Go back and read Madison’s note from the convention. Read some history on Jefferson and Adam’s.

Musk was destined for this the minute he stepped into the government arena. He’s not used to a world where, like it or not, things get done in small doses. This is no different. I admire what he did, but I now question his motives. He’s a juvenile neophyte in an adult world. Maybe it’s time for him to grow up and face reality. YMMV.

Trump learned by the end of the first term that you cannot ask for the perfect with Congress. Every single representative has their own agenda, their own donors, their own constituents, their own lobbyists. He has a bill that managed to get through the House and now is trying to get through the Senate with Senators who have less concern over being reelected than House members since they have a six-year timeline. And they all want their own agenda in it. The Democrats want it to fail, period.

That would be Clancy Brown. Sean Connery tunes him up a bit before losing.

Clancy Brown was also the sane dude in the Sci-Fi moving starring Debrah Farentino as the first AWFL. Not the one where they're on Little Tall Island with Tim Dayl. The one where they're on Mars or wherever the Hell and she's still stomping around with that "listen to what I have to say" bullshit. And Tim Curry shows up - but sadly, he doesn't kill Debrah Farentino.

Debrah Farentino was the first Hollywood AWFL. Then they came up with a much less attractive Kate Mulgrew.

Does anyone else believe in supply and demand ? If we don't have enough STEM - (and I don't think its a problem you can fix quickly because you don't get the right people from college) ?

The answer isn't to import more. The answer is to let the market suffer a little, prices to go higher for the skill, so that more want to do it.

And I can assure you this ... we lack "base level engineer / technicians". The same level of know-how that was present back in the day.

We can't import them. Nobody else in the world is making them either. India isn't. China isn't. Japan and Germany can't.

Posted by: Mike Armstrong at June 05, 2025 08:26 PM (2AUcf)

We have plenty of low level STEM techs...they can't get hired, even at the poor wages paid b/c there are too many and they still fight H1-Bs and INT college grads on visas here.

My STEM kid will now be in a non-STEM job as her 1st post collegiate job b/c she couldn't crack in from a state school as a Magna Cumm Laude...for $18/hour jobs.

He's literally been saying this since his Senate hearing and said it again last night. Maybe Elon should actually listen to him because it's pretty fucking clear what Trump's team is trying to do.

If you read some of the very good breakdowns being provided it is more than significant for government to achieve this type of bill. I think Russ Vought had the best breakdown. I will also say there is a lot more that can be done to lower the deficit- SECTREAS hasn’t even been involved yet. Future manufacturing and business in the country will also help. It’s already moving the economic needle. That’s the long game we need.

The US government isn’t Twitter or a private company. You can only do so much at one time. If that was Musk’s thought, he’s not as smart as I thought he was.

I will say one thing. The Epstein jab was not only demonstrably false but even lower then O thought Musk would go. It hurts Trump’s family, who just ingratiated themselves to Elon and his son. Is she not miserable at it ? That's important.

She is enjoying how supportive they are and how much they want here. Again, after 4 months of tons of nos, the yeses were an ego boost. And I think she's shocked they actually provided training, and now more training so she knows what she'll be doing.

She starts the work herself in two weeks. For now (and the last few weeks), she's still just being trained to learn the job and get certs (which she's very good at).

She appreciates the company wants to fully train their staff and at cost before having them deal with the kids (and parents).

I looked at the timeline. I also know that Trump has been pushing this bill, and for some reason nobody here seems to actually know what's in it and why it needs to pass, for months.

Musk has also known since the day he took the DOGE job how this was going to play out. He had a private home for he and his son at Mar A Lago. He's been Trump's bestie since before the election. It would take a suspension of belief or the belief that Musk is in reality a fucking retard to believe he didn't understand what has been going on for months.

He was in all the cabinet meetings. He talked to Trump whenever he wanted. He was meeting with Congress constantly. And he just figured out today after getting a golden key to the White House from Trump last week he didn't like the bill?

The timeline didn't start this morning.
