Sefton: sefton at cutjibnewsletter.com | Disney Lays Off Hundreds of Employees In Its TV and Film DivisionsCrowds at Disney World were small over Memorial Day weekend. Universal's Epic Universe just opened and is making a splash. (Link replaced with a current story.) Meanwhile, Disney just screened the Fantastic Four for the public, I think at a Long Beach theater. They understand they have another bomb on their hands and that this is pretty much the end of the M-She-U. When the Fantastic Four fails, that will be three failures in a row, and there will be zero momentum or interest for the upcoming two part Avengers movies. It's strange to do test screenings so close to the planned release date. Apparently they're attempting last-minute reshoots to change the ending of the movie. Woke reviewer Grace Randolph heard from people who saw the movie, and they report that the M-She-U is back in full force. (Of course.) Even though she's super-woke and stupid and hates the term "The M-She-U," she says she has no choice but to report that Disney is once again going full M-She-U and giving haters (like me) a reason to bash the film. Apparently, Galactus is defeated by the gender-swapped female Silver Surfer and Sue Storm (with the help of her newborn baby Franklin). They just didn't feel like giving the three male members of the Fantastic Four a meaningful role in the resolution of the plot. Meanwhile, Dr. Who -- which is now funded by Disney, because of course it is -- just posted its worst ratings in history and is now on "hiatus" with no future seasons planned. In other words, it's cancelled, but the BBC won't come right out and say so because they don't want to give "the CHUDs" the win. So the official story going forward will be that Dr. Who, like Rion Johnson's Star Wars trilogy, is still "in development," forever. Note that the show used to get 7, 8, 9 or even ten million viewers in the UK. Now it barely gets two million for even its biggest shows (the first episode of a season, the last episode, and the Star WhovianFans are noting that the new actor playing the Doctor was credited as "The Doctor" in the credits of the episode he first appeared in, whereas Billie Piper is credited as... no one in particular.

Disney is cutting hundreds of employees across several TV and film teams as the company focuses on expanding its streaming services. ------- I have a clue for you, dummies: families aren't going to say "well, I sure didn't like it when this filthy faggot rat was trying to turn my kid into a genderless, mentally ill mutant Satanist in a movie theater, but if it's on my Roku, then I'm fine with it." It's not the delivery mechanism that's the problem, and you're not going to suddenly eschew your bone-deep commitment to evil, so you'll find that streaming won't treat you any better. I thought that the Fantastic Four movie was probably a dud when I saw who they got to play Sue Storm. She's a good actress for the sort of pantherish boss bitch parts like she plays in the Mission Impossible movies but really not the right type to play Sue Storm. Lousy casting. Someone like Sydney Sweeney would've been far better. But, then the whole F4 movie seems badly miscast so not sure what's going on over at Disney. No one seems able to do their job. They are only interested in the last 20 or so years, and only some of them. Because that's the stuff the current main staff at marvel worked on. They consider all the rest lame and childish and pale and stale. Our take on that aspect on the way out was basically "it's a coogler flick. It's going to have some sort of pov in regards to that." But it is really a tertiary pov at best. And yes the music and cinematography are great. Yeah, and if you make something entertaining and well crafted enough, I can live with a bit of dumb bias. Saw "Bring Her Back" this week end. Very good movie. Excellent acting. Tight script. Good story. Great directing. Plenty of surprising, whacked-out gory moments Not exactly what I was expecting. Not a full on horror movie. "Bring Her Back" is more like one of those horror-adjacent gothic movies like "Hush, Hush Sweet Charlotte" or "what Ever Happened to Baby Jane" until it decides to totally cut loose in the last thirty minutes or so. Then it brings the horror and gore and craziness. Really, my kind of favorite horror movie in that it is tightly paced until it decides to totally go insane. However, it's a rather sad story altogether and wants to play out as a tragedy that moves you emotionally at the end. It didn't quite make it to that point for me, though I did notice a couple of people in the audience wiping their eyes. Anyway...check it out. And if you have seen these guys first horror movie check out "Talk to Me" it's a good one too. Posted by: naturalfake at June 03, 2025 05:09 PM (iJfKG) 149

Posted by: Christopher R Taylor at June 03, 2025 05:12 PM (2VST1) Ya Franklin is basically above Omega level. And I have seen some of the same stuff about the ending. Posted by: BruceWayne at June 03, 2025 05:15 PM (MGB5H) 170
161 Not-so-hot take: The Fantastic Four and Doctor Who have ALWAYS been gay. Even as an 80s kid who read Marvel comics monthly and loved Star Wars, I thought the F4 and DW were lame and dorky.

Posted by: Christopher R Taylor at June 03, 2025 05:12 PM (2VST1) Fine. I'll share. The infant Franklin confronts Galactus - who had voted for a Hitlerian clown to be President of Earth. There's a 20 minute soliloquy wherein Franklin explains the importance of inclusion and non-mainstream love - particularly that involving very young people. The Galactus agrees to spare the Earth while devouring Trump instead. Posted by: I used to have a different nic at June 03, 2025 05:22 PM (ExV1e) 181

Posted by: Christopher R Taylor at June 03, 2025 05:23 PM (2VST1) I can def see that. And could be somewhat entertaining if we get battleworld. But having so many omega level and above characters creates even more story telling issues. It's always been an issue in the comics too but just works better in that medium. Just like the multiverse. Sinners is a pretty awesome movie, especially with the degree of detail and depth brought to the script. Take, for example, the Chinese residents of the Mississippi Delta. That was something fairly well-known in Mississippi, but Sinners is the only film I can think of that acknowledges the settlers from the Siyi region of Guangdong that have been in the Delta since 1877. Also, they got Clarksdale perfectly.

174 Since I have never seen Dr. Who, I'm curious about the premise of the show. What does this doctor do? Why does he regenerate?
Posted by: Madame Mayhem (uppity wench) at June 03, 2025 05:20 PM (2J/Lj) The Doctor is an alien from a race called the Time Lords. This particular one was exiled from his planet, Galifrey, and stole a TARDIS (a time machine) which has the ability to take on any shape, but his is broken so its been a 60s era Police call box. He regenerates because the producers needed a way to continue the series when the original actor died unexpectedly. So they ret-conned it where the Doctor is basically immortal and becomes a new Doctor when he's injured and dies. The basic premise of the show is the Doctor takes companions he meets on adventures across space & time helping various people, fighting aliens and monsters, and solving difficult problems - many of which could be the end of the universe. Fantastic Four - They had this in the bag, then managed to screw it up. Sue Storm is supposed to suffer from being shy. That is the opposite of her hot-headed brother. see, their powers reflect who they are as people. Get it?
The ending would be Reed coming up with some sort of big science solution. Ben would lift the machine and aim it. Johnney would power it...oh no he doesn't have enough power. The silver surfer betrays Galactus to help! but of no it has too much power! the machine is breaking apart! Sue Strom reaches deep within herself to get enough power to project a forcefield...and hold the machine together for just a few more seconds.... Day saved. Roll credits. Yes, I am a fan of a fun Dr Who, Star Wars and Star Trek. But since the Capaldi era, it has sucked Jasmine Crockett ASS! Let it die, like everything else Disney has touched.
