Sefton: sefton at cutjibnewsletter.com | CBS "News" Ditzy Dingbat AWFL Margaret Brennan Embarrasses Herself Yet AgainOnce again, she brings Democrat Talking Points to a factfight and loses. She repeatedly attempts to claim that Trump's tariffs will cause rampant inflation. Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent calmly points out that this dizzy bitch made the same claim in March, and inflation then collapsed. If you come at a career business savant like Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent, you better not miss. CBS Face the Nation moderator Margaret Brennan hilariously had to learn that the hard way on Sunday. Brennan tried to corner the Treasury Department head from a number of fronts on the economy, such as tariffs and inflation. In response, Bessent repeatedly made Brennan look completely foolish. Regarding inflation in particular, Brennan whipped out a piece by anti-Trumper strategist Karl Rove (whom she dubbed a "conservative"), arguing that Walmart wouldn't be able to break even if it just ate the tariffs President Donald Trump was placing on imported goods, thereby leading to higher prices on consumers. "Before consumers, the reality is there will either be less inventory or things at higher prices or both." Bessent was quick on the draw, and reminded Brennan that she was one of the Armageddon geniuses prophesying the supposedly impending catastrophe of spiking inflation since March, which has not materialized. "Margaret, in March you said there would be big inflation. There hasn't been any inflation," Bessent retorted. "Actually the inflation numbers are the best in four years, so why don't we stop trying to say this could happen and wait and see what does happen?"The uninformed-yet-arrogant hack then insisted repeatedly that large corporations dependent on Chinese imports like Walmart and Target forecast the "most probable" economic outcomes in their quarterly reports. Bessent responded "Actually no Margaret," and pointed out that these reports are required by law to discuss the worst-case possibilities to apprise investors of risk, or else face lawsuit for not disclosing material possibilities. She once again insists that they're warning of the "most probable" outcomes, and I think it's pretty clear she's a bullshitter who is asking questions straight from the DNC's talking points.
I think it was the Atlanta fed that predicted -3% GDP in Q1. It was not -3% GDP in Q1. It was -0.3% GDP, entirely and completely driven by a massive spike in imports. shipwreckedcrew had a good take on this style of interview.
The interviewer knows just this side of nothing. The producers who outline the questions know slightly more, but still not very much. The coaches don't know much more than than. So, when the interviewer goes out to talk to someone combative and intelligent with a lot of experience and specific knowledge in the field in question, with the objective of "gotcha" not interview, the interviewer very quickly looks stupid because the prep doesn't extend past the first question, the answer to which collapses everything afterwards. Meanwhile, the Atlanta Fed's growth tracker now predicts a very strong 4.6% GDP growth rate in the second quarter:

that growth chart may be overblown in its optimism. Part of GDP now is government spending and it looks like that in particular will be slowing down.

Correct, and important. And note: it's not really the GOP that has engineered at least the latest positive shift towards seeing them as the "party of the middle class". It's Trump, and his policies. Which is not a condemnation of the GOP (OK, it's that too), nor even praise for Trump. It's terrifying. The Democrats were taken over by the super rich elites about 30 years ago, and have left the middle class and poor behind. Almost all of their policies and proposals actively harm the poor in the name of a greater good like global warmening. They don't get much in the way of small donor money any longer, because they didn't NEED it with the graft they were skimming off of other sources like USAID and the Institute of Peace.

The difference with tariffs is you can change supply chains where the tariff is gone. WalMart buys their cheap plastic shit from Mexico instead of China, and this tax is mostly gone. Posted by: Leupold at June 02, 2025 04:52 PM (4pwAx) 83

The suits at CNN and the DNC are still mystified as to what's gone wrong.
CNN's Buried Lede: New Poll Shows Dems Still Cratering ...The cratering on leadership is directly related to the fraud Democrat leaders perpetrated on American voters over the last four years regarding Joe Biden's clear cognitive incapacity for office, which Biden is helpfully continuing to demonstrate publicly. When the entire party establishment has been exposed as co-conspirators to that fraud, or too gutless to speak out against it (with the notably courageous exception of Dean Phillips), the only real surprise in the leadership question is that the score for Democrats is as high as 19%. https://is.gd/XeHTBa Posted by: Archimedes at June 02, 2025 04:52 PM (s8j++) 87
I am really annoyed at how interviewers work now, instead of listening they are really aggressive, interrupting, arguing. They don't lay back and let someone talk if they are at any point saying something that varies from the party line. Its not helpful, its annoying, and its inauthentic.

Almost all of their policies and proposals actively harm the poor in the name of a greater good like global warmening. They increase prices of good, but, assuming the supply and demand curve otherwise remain constant, it will actually decrease demand of those goods. Which is, if anything, deflationary since fewer dollars will be spent. Posted by: Oldcat at June 02, 2025 05:39 PM (8avO+) Mike Flynn just posted that Floyd Brown was a good conservative friend of his, and shouldn't have been fired. It's kind of too stereotypical that they decided to put the gay guy in charge of the cabaret line. Posted by: Tom Servo at June 02, 2025 05:42 PM (uWKK8) 312
Considering the news of invented tens of millions of dollars at the Kennedy Center while this guy was VP...color me suspicious that anything this guy says has anything to do with the truth.
Posted by: TheJamesMadison, reflecting on change and permanence with Ozu at June 02, 2025 05:03 PM (m8qt4) According to his Twatter post, he was hired for the job two months ago by Trump. Posted by: Alberta Oil Peon at June 02, 2025 05:42 PM (NcHd3) 313
HUGE CNN POLLING: “Which is the party of the Middle Class? In 1989, Democrats had a 23 point advantage. Now it’s tied. They have traditionally been the party of the Middle Class. No more. Donald Trump and the Republican Party have taken that mantle away.”
No, they haven't. The Democrats did that to themselves. Posted by: OneEyedJack at June 02, 2025 04:43 PM (FCbAQ) --------------- They did. When I was a kid the Dems were the party of disco, rock music and Hollywood. Today they are the party of bearded women and racists and antisemites. No wonder the olds are retreating but there is nothing there for the kids either. Posted by: Decaf at June 02, 2025 05:42 PM (unUNN) 314
Jeff Bridges and Jeff Daniels need to do a movie together, so they can confuse more people at to who is who. Add Mathew Modine, just because. Assuming he's still alive. Seems he was in just about every movie for a while, then he wasn't.

A fired VP from the Kennedy Center wants me to believe that he was fired because he believes marriage is only between a man and a woman? A VP at the Kennedy Center, right.
And Jeff Bridges is a great orator. Posted by: Braenyard - some Absent Friends are more equal than others _ at June 02, 2025 05:44 PM (jTU7t) 316
A, I highly doubt there was a faithfully practicing Catholic heading the Kennedy Center and I doubt even more that Grennell fired him for being a faithfully practicing Catholic.
Also, Copland is ok, and Stallone's two bet performances are Rocky and NightHawks, where he actually was making an effort to act and create a compelling character. Posted by: Thomas Bender at June 02, 2025 05:44 PM (XV/Pl) 317
Jeff Bridges was a pretty good bad guy in that one Iron Man movie. Definitely a different character from The Dude.

The Dems want something like 85% of the country in extreme penury, 10% nomenklatura, and 5% elites.

Never forget that every dollar reduction in our trade imbalance adds a dollar to GDP ... so if we reduce imports by 1 trillion then GDP goes up by 1 trillion ... and a 1 trillion increase in GDP is a 3.7 % increase in GDP ...
