Musical Interlude

The first version is the clip used as the ending theme for the anime Ningen Fushin. While it's great, it is unfortunately the best thing in that series. The show isn't awful, but it is a bit disappointing.

The second version is the official video.

6 It June, what are we celebrating this month? Juneteenth is on the 19th, is that a holiday now, I believe it is in my state. What else like fathers day. Isn't it rainbow month or something?

June already, and here I am up, more than an hour earlier than I planned. There is, however, coffee.

10 My workout yesterday was a forty-minute fast walk in the dawn along the riverfront about fifteen minutes' drive from my house. Not too bad, but it used a few different muscles from my usual walk/trot. Said muscles are complaining a little. I'm resolutely telling them to shut up.

Why did I change my workout? I believe I have developed a hernia, or it's in its early stages. It's mild; no pain -- but the jarring of my workout last week made it a bit more obvious. I'm calling my regular doctor today. However, I don't expect to be able to see him soon. I've made an appointment with the Oak Street Health people for next Tuesday. I've never been there; any experiences with one near you?

17 Happy Monday, one and all. Broke out the laptop to do some troubleshooting on a powerline (Ethernet extender). Realized that I had not used this laptop in so long that I'd forgotten my password. And my wife could not remember hers, so I went ahead and installed Mint.

The irony of it all is that when I was done and things were finished, I realized that I probably don't need the laptop and should contemplate recycling it.

Oh, I know. The late Wolf loved his water from the tap, too. Miss Linda thought that the "running" of the fountain would encourage them to drink more, and they do use it. But Stirling in particular is determined (with squeaking noises -- and he's usually quiet) to have me turn on the tap anytime I'm in the bathroom or kitchen.

The underlying OS on Mac is Unix. You can pretty much do any Linux operation on Mac OS.

My recommendation is to install HomeBrew and check out Joseph Martinez channel on YouTube. He has many tutorials on how to supercharge your terminal to gain productivity and in doing that you will gain a lot of knowledge.

Who knows after October what Microsoft will do, but actually all the of my computers weren't that old and I got a notice that they met win 11 demands. Microsoft's own check failed them all, but now I'll just wait to see if anything happens, but actually I don't expect any problems.

True; I've bookmarked a site with a number of useful Unix/MacOS commands, and have played around with their Terminal application. As for Homebrew, I tried to install it a while ago and ran into troubles, which I don't understand. The OS version I'm running on the iMac is 10.15. Homebrew said it was fine with versions after 10.12. I can try again.

The MacBook, with only 4 GB of memory, is fine with version 11.7. Yet the advice I see online suggests that iMacs as old as 2013-14, which mine is, should not install the latest MacOS. Not a matter of memory, but (they say) possible hardware issues (?).

36 Contacted Verizon Friday night to see if I could get a lower rate on FiOS. They agreed and also sent me a new router since the one I've been using is ancient.
Turns out they upgraded my service, and the coax cable from the box outside the house won't carry all the Megambobytes of data now available to me. Ok, so I was able to fish tape the new Ethernet cable through the wall and connect the spiffy new router.
It still won't activate.
Sigh. Another call to the support line.
I guess my entire lifestyle depends on WiFi.

38 Psalm 90:14 – Satisfaction and Joy Each Morning

"Satisfy us in the morning with your unfailing love, that we may sing for joy and be glad all our days."

What a beautiful prayer to start the day! This verse invites us to seek satisfaction in God's unfailing love. When we begin our day in His presence, our hearts are filled with joy that lasts. Let's ask God to fill us with His love each morning, so we may carry that joy into our daily lives, spreading His light wherever we go.

45 The only way those girls can win is by not playing.

I have mixed feelings on that. Yes, if the only person competing was the fake girl, that might help restore normalcy.

But these girls worked hard to get where they are. For many of them, this is a chance to shine and get noticed by college recruiters. Refusing to compete takes that away from them.

Posted by: NR Pax at June 02, 2025 06:38 AM (BpO1e)

The versions of MacOS for the past several years only really work with the new M chips which are all ARM based. Older Macs, like mine and yours had Intel x86 chips.

There are workarounds using bootloader software to make newer OS versions work, but it probably isn’t worth it unless you really like the Apple ecosystem and want to be able to sync and use it with other products like iPhone & iPad.

Besides, at 4GB and a hard drive instead of a SSD, it would be a painfully slow experience.

These are more for developers, and in particular AI developers. The main feature of the card is not that it is slightly faster, but that it has 96GB of VRAM, enough to run fairly high-end AI models by itself.

Also good for high-end video editing and 3D rendering, though in those cases the advantage over a regular $2000 model is much smaller.
