  • Automattic says it will start contributing to WordPress again. (Tech Crunch)

    Automattic owns WordPress.

That is, the software is open source, but the WordPress company is owned by Automattic, and that's how they make their money. So their earlier announcement that they were not updating the software was slow corporate suicide to spite other people who were also not updating the software.

    These people are insane.

Allegedly 43% of websites run on WordPress, leaving a huge market open to non-insane people.

3 Can't sleep. Have a new software project that can't wait until morning.

The Ford rearview mirror thing is interesting. The Korean car I picked up has a mode where the regular rearview mirror can be switched to from traditional mirror (where you see the headrests and the roof pillars in the image and the image is darker because of the tinted glass) to one that uses a high mounted rear camera.

The problem is that for older eyes, switching from far distance out the windshield to near distance glancing at the digital rear-view mirror its sometimes better to go old school because of presbyopia.

Love the concept thought.

13 Evening to the Saturday toilers, morning to those up early on this last day of May!

Nice video, Pixy. "Ellie Goulding Cover," featuring "Cristina Gatti, Robyn Adele Anderson, and Ashley Stroud." Which one is the girl in the middle? She's not only hot, but has quite a powerful soaring voice. And someone in the YooToob comments points out that the song was done in one take, with a single camera -- no cutaways, no breaks. A real performance, in other words.

19 Speaking of tech: Yesterday I reached the limit of my patience with the "Magic Mouse," or whatever Apple calls it, that came with the iMac. It had been picky as to what surface it would work smoothly on, and then yesterday it balked one time too many.

I dug out a Dell wireless mouse I had, popped in AA batteries, plugged the little receiver thing into the computer, and was off to the races. The scroll wheel feels mechanical and not as smooth as the Apple mouse's scrolling, but the cursor goes where I want it to without my having to pick up the mouse and readjust its position on the pad. The Dell also works on either of the pads I have, too.

Ellie Goulding
https://youtu.be/CGyEd0aKWZE

This is the original version of Burn. While it is a OK bit of 2010ish Pop-Tart music it is Postmodern Jukebox's arrangement and performance that takes it to a whole different level. PMJ Is a powerhouse group that has this uncanny brilliance of finding songs that are easily dismissed and then recasting them into different eras revealing how good the underlying songs really are. A couple more example from PMJ.

36 Errands this am: wash the car, discount bread store *, Aldi for groceries. Perhaps I can squeeze a coffee shop visit for a latte or something in there. Seems a shame to waste somewhat drier air, a rare thing this late in the year.

* This discount bread store really is. They have the Dave's Killer Bread which retails for $6-7 even at Walmart for $2/loaf, which includes the English muffins and bagels. They even have real honey in the little bear-shaped bottles for $4.99, about a dollar less than at most stores.
