The Autopen Scandal
Executive Director Daniel Turner emphasized the severity of the issue, stating, “This autopen scandal is evidence that these green EOs are invalid, and the instigators should be thoroughly investigated by the DOJ for violating the trust of the American people and perpetuating a great fraud on the nation.” Make Waterboarding Great Again Posted by: pawn at May 30, 2025 04:42 AM (QB+5g) 6
But in this one specific instance they're not wrong. I cancelled my Netflix account because it was becoming an unbearable chore to crawl through all their garbage looking for something I actually wanted to watch.
Yeah. I'm getting ready to cancel some stuff for this very reason. It's very cumbersome and tedious. Posted by: bear with asymmetrical balls at May 30, 2025 04:43 AM (V9cMX) 7
I got a Roku teevee for hubby, so he could watch from a ground-floor bedroom where there was no convenient cable outlet. (also, great excuse to dump cable)
Anyway, as a teevee addict, it was great for him-- dozens of movies and series and news! (Well, it was great until he learned how to *buy* all that crap. Omg. He burned through the $$$ quickly, because EVERYTHING cost extra, ya know.) I seldom even switch on the tube, now. Quiet life is best life. Posted by: JQ at May 30, 2025 04:45 AM (rdVOm) 8

Good morning! It's a very temperate 67 with a passing shower here in Cowtown.
Pond renovation continues today. Got the excavation done and the liner is in place, more topsoil and some more stone enroute. There's only about 12-16 inches of soil atop the bedrock in the location of the pond so we had to jackhammer the location to set the sump and pump. Finished size looks like it will be about 16' x 25' with a 2 foot depth. Posted by: CrotchetyOldJarhead at May 30, 2025 05:49 AM (3Ope8) 37

The idea that the U.S. had done worse things in the Middle East on 9/11 was ludicrous to begin with.
Because at that point we were ten years out from the only war we had fought there, a short-lived affair known as the Gulf War/Desert Storm. We were invited into Saudi Arabia by their king to protect the kingdom and to expel Saddam from Kuwait. Just because Bin Ladin made up a bunch of whining bullshit to justify his people’s suicide attack on innocent civilians doesn’t make it true. Back then, and still today, many of those Boomers didn't even believe what they saw and maintain it was an inside job by the Bush family to collect insurance money on the WTC buildings. Being that Bush was the third or fourth Republican Hitler at the time (it’s hard to keep track there have been so many) this isn’t really surprising. Taylor Lorenz is old enough to remember all of this quite clearly as she had to have been pushing 20 at that point. Posted by: SpeakingOf at May 30, 2025 06:24 AM (6ydKt) 74

Harry Truman had some choice words to say about the spook agencies in a letter to the editor missive to the NYTs about a month after JFK was killed in Dallas. Basically he was pointing out there was already a sort of unelected, unaccountable shadow government in some cases conducting foreign policy. And maybe killing Presidents, if one wants to perhaps read between the lines. That’s kind of the takeaway. Maybe.

In perhaps less important matters, someone was regaling us in the ONT with their icemaker woes.
We had an Amana that after 25 years or so, the icemaker died. Icemakers are standardized usually, they aren’t very expensive. This was pre-Wuhan Flu and I had one delivered to my door for under $15 and installed it myself. There are a couple adjustments to be made, there is a little cover that is removed, that deals with the water level and such. This will affect cube size. A new one may not be necessary - try messing with it according to the setup instructions. There is undoubtedly a website and discussion support group forum somewhere on the internet that will walk you through it. It would probably save a nice little chunk of change for those who don’t have a lot of extra $$ floating around to call a plumber. I got away with spending only fifteen bucks, instead of $120 or $150 probably. First thing, is turn the cute little water supply off that feeds it. Overall it’s not too tough, if inconvenient. As an aside, I’ve never liked the half-moon cubes, which have a tendency to hug the side of a glass and cause problems. There’s a first world problem. They'd be wrong. Tim's is struggling because it was bought out (repeatedly) by other foreign owners that have been trying to figure out how to reduce costs. Quality has dropped, and a lot of Canadians have woken up to the fact that they're not what they used to be, and that they're also no longer a "Canadian" icon.
