You are simply stupid insensate stalks of wheat to be harvested and threshed and consumed byNational Public Radio and three of its affiliates in Colorado sued the Trump administration on Tuesday over a sweeping executive order signed earlier this month that would terminate the outlet's federal funding. In a suit filed in DC federal court, NPR and three stations -- Colorado Public Radio in Centennial, Roaring Fork Public Radio in Aspen and KSUT Public Radio in Ignacio -- alleged that President Trump's order unconstitutionally infringes on First Amendment protections. "The Order's objectives could not be clearer: the Order aims to punish NPR for the content of news and other programming the President dislikes and chill the free exercise of First Amendment rights by NPR and individual public radio stations across the country," attorneys representing the radio stations wrote in the 43-page filing. "The Order is textbook retaliation and viewpoint-based discrimination in violation of the First Amendment, and it interferes with NPR's and the Local Member Stations' freedom of expressive association and editorial discretion," they said. "Lastly, by seeking to deny NPR critical funding with no notice or meaningful process, the Order violates the Constitution's Due Process Clause," they added. ... Office of Management and Budget (OMB) Director Russ Vought the following month asked Congress to claw back $1.1 billion in taxpayer funding from the Corporation for Public Broadcasting (CPB), which provides some funding for both NPR and PBS, as part of a rescissions bill that could pass by a simple majority. The Corporation for Public Broadcasting had been slated to receive $535 million in federal funds in fiscal years 2025 and 2026 to distribute to radio and TV stations -- including NPR and PBS. Upwards of 70% of CPB's budget goes toward more than 1,500 local public media stations. NPR takes around 1% of its funding from CPB, while PBS receives up roughly 15% of its revenue from the nonprofit. Closely related: Noted True Conservative David French says that Harvard has a constitutional right to the taxpayer's money forever, for whatever reason, no matter how poorly it serves the public trust. Do taxpayers have a constitutional duty to bankroll Harvard University? On MSNBC, David French argued that the Trump administration's defunding of Harvard is little more than "political retaliation." In the United States, we don't sentence people before hearing the verdict, the New York Times columnist said. Ignoring due process is "directly contrary to our constitutional principles." David might not be aware that in addition to the joint-government task force's claim that Harvard leadership failed to meaningfully confront pervasive insults, physical assault, and intimidation of Jewish students, there's also a blistering internal university taskforce report that maintains that Harvard allowed antisemitism to permeate "coursework, social life, the hiring of some faculty members and the worldview of certain academic programs." Harvard concedes, "members of the Jewish and Israeli communities at Harvard reported treatment that was vicious and reprehensible." The verdict is in.I'd also say that the government does not have to conduct jury trials to prove guilt beyond a reasonable doubt before defunding an entity. But David French thinks it does. At least when his leftwing allies' are losing their taxpayer-funded sinecures.

". . . I suggest you speak to some pro-Israeli or pro-capitalist or pro-American or social conservative student on campus and see how comfortable they feel about airing opinions."
Exactly. Several years running my boss asked us in our university institute for suggestions for that year's prestige speaker. Several times I suggested Victor Davis Hanson and Thomas Sowell. Neither was ever considered or discussed. One of my co-workers actually said aloud in one of our meetings, "Naomi Klein, yes; Naomi Wolf, never." When I put my printout of the "Fight! Fight!" Trump pic (with no commentary, mind you) up over my desk, within two weeks somebody complained anonymously to my boss, who dragged the personnel people into it. They insisted I take it down. I pointed out that a faculty member in our office had had anti-conservative cartoons and slogans up on his door for several years. Yes, they made him take those down too. I listened to KSUT when I lived in Farmington, NM. It had good music programming during the day. When a biggish musical act came to Durango for a concert, they would often go out to the Ignacio studio and do an interview and play a few songs live on air. It was nice. It's also linked to the Southern Ute tribe, who make plenty of money from oil and gas exploration and production and their casino if they want to pay for it.

"would anyone on MSNBC argue that the government had an obligation to keep funding this school until a civil lawsuit worked its way through the courts?"
It's worse than that - a CIVIL LAWSUIT DID GO THROUGH THE COURTS AND HARVARD LOST. Students for Fair Admissions v Harvard. The United States Supreme Court ruling that race-based affirmative action programs in college admissions violate the Equal Protection Clause of the Fourteenth Amendment. They were then ordered, by the supreme court, to comply. They instead spent the last year scheming to find ways not to comply with the supreme court ruling. They literally had recorded teleconferences where they tried to find ways around fair admissions policies. The attacks on Jewish students were the tip of the iceberg here. The Students for Fair Admissions v Harvard showed Harvard violated the law for decades. Also - 25% of your student body is foreign born. Posted by: SpeakingOf at May 30, 2025 *** It was very well done. The creator and writer, Julian Fellowes, did tend to make things a little easy for his characters. They had crises, but there were never any true catastrophes (aside from a major character's death early in the series). Everything always worked out well for them. Which was a relief after all the grim dark stuff we've been subjected to on TV and in movies in the last twenty years, I'll admit. I think at some point, maybe after he's dead, the truth will come out about David French. There is definitely something really unseemly about him. And he acts like such a groveling puppet that I have to figure somebody's lording something over him.

David French may not be the devil's spawn, but he is sort of like the devil's icky cousin by marriage. He's like Judas, if Judas had possessed no conscience or sense of guilt at all, had gotten a grip on himself after the great betrayal, had set up his own bogus ministry, and had ratted all the other apostles out to Rome.

What’s blasphemous is that French believes only in his personal version of divinity. That doesn’t serve God, it contravenes His law and the teachings of Jesus Christ. Only the Son of Man can divine such things. Posted by: Marcus T at May 30, 2025 05:27 PM (fR05s) 256

No violence, decent writing and times when shows had a long term plot line to keep you wanting more. The kind of thing to all sit down to on Sunday night or something. Don't look at anything this century to evaluate it. Plus 2 generations had been able to share this lineage their entire lives. Benny Hill is also not my kind of humor, but that sort of show is centuries old in England. Posted by: Oldcat at May 30, 2025 05:36 PM (8avO+) 277

I hope Ace covers FJB's disgusting speech at a Delaware Memorial Day event. Held TODAY. No doubt because it is the 10th anniversary of Beau's Death.
FJB spoke for less than six minutes. He spent a minute and a half talking about Beau. Wait, what? Was Beau killed in action? Died of battle wounds? Nope. But that doesn't stop FJB from playing the Beau Card. Every damn time he speaks in public. Disgusting. Posted by: Gref at May 30, 2025 05:36 PM (aBgBM) 279
