Do Androids Dream Of Electric ONTs?

Hey Horde. Sorry I haven't been around, I've been in the hospital. Boy, THAT was one hell of a night, let me tell you.

Shall Not Be Infringed

This is from a few years ago, but it's a great response to all those people who claim the 2A is obsolite because the governemnt has armies with high tech weapons. It's by Larry Correia, who wrote the Monster Hunter International series of books (quite good, can recommend. Think Supernatural but without the angst and aimed at adults)

The 2nd Amendment is Obsolete, Says Congressman Who Wants To Nuke Omaha

This is a deeply ironic argument to make, considering that the most technologically advanced military coalition in history has spent the better part of the last two decades fighting goat herders with AKs in Afghanistan and Iraq. Seriously, it’s like you guys only pay attention to American casualties when there’s a republican in office and an election coming up.

Nobel Peace Prize Winner Barack Obama launched over five hundred drone strikes during his eight years in office. We’ve used Apaches (that’s the scary looking helicopter in the picture for my peacenik liberal friends), smart bombs, tanks, I don’t know how many thousand s of raids on houses and compounds, all the stuff that the lefty memes say they’re willing to do to crush the gun nut right, and we’ve spent something like 6 trillion dollars on the global war on terror so far.

And yet they’re still fighting.

So yes, groups of irregular locals can be a real pain in the ass to a technologically superior military force. That’s pretty obvious.

Now here is the interesting part. Best estimates are that any given time in Iraq we’ve been fighting about 20,000 insurgents at most. Keep that number in mind, because now we’re going to talk about the scope of this hypothetical fight over gun control.

This Is The Oddest Story I've Seen In A While

Coast Guard vet lured her accused rapist to woods, executed him and then went to get a tattoo

A U.S. Coast Guard vet turned OnlyFans model is facing a decades-long prison sentence for luring a man she claimed raped her into the woods of a national park in Ohio and executing him.

Chelsea Perkins pleaded guilty on Tuesday to second-degree murder in the 2021 death of 31-year-old Matthew Dunmire at Cuyahoga Valley National Park near Cleveland, court records say. Hikers in the Terra Vista Natural Study Area of the park found Dunmire’s body around 11 a.m. March 9, 2021, according to a probable cause arrest affidavit. He had a single gunshot wound to the back of the head and an Aquafina water bottle next to him.

FBI agents later learned Dunmire had gone out with friends and co-workers to a bar four days before the discovery of his body. Dunmire told them he was going to meet a woman who was in town for the weekend. The woman showed up in a white car and his boss watched him get inside and leave.

If you don't want to click the link, here's the gist. Highlight to read, 'cuz spoilers: In 2017, she accuses this guy of rape. Police can't find enough evidence to make the case. Several years later, she lures him to a hookup at an Airbnb she rents with her own credit card (Boy, I tell you, that “sorry I raped you/sorry I accused you of rape” sex is just the BEST, innit?) The next morning she takes him into the woods and executes him. But wait, there's more. His mom decides to kill her in revenge, shoots the wrong woman (who survives), then kills herself. Her dad get charges as an accessory, and now everybody's in jail.

Arrested: Guess Who's Threatened to Assassinate President Trump Now

Ramon Morales Reyes, a 54-year-old illegal immigrant from Mexico, doesn't seem like the brightest bulb in the box, and he's got quite a lengthy criminal record to boot. In addition to entering the United States illegally at least nine times between 1998 and 2005, he's been arrested for crimes like "felony hit and run, criminal damage to property, and disorderly conduct with a domestic abuse modifier."

On May 21, he apparently sent a handwritten letter to an ICE field intelligence officer, in which he laid out how he's going to shoot the president in the head at one of his rallies. (DHS released a picture of the letter, which you can view here. Honestly, if it had come from any other source, I'd wonder if it was even real.) It reads:

Probably not the sharpest crayon in the shed.

Yellow Fever Resurgence Could Make COVID Look 'Pale' by Comparison

Stop me if you've heard this one before.

The development of a highly effective yellow fever vaccine in the 1930s changed everything. Yellow fever mosquitoes were also almost completely eradicated in the Western Hemisphere, and the two factors stopped urban spread in the Americas.

In the decades since, yellow fever mosquitoes have re-infested much of the neotropics, and while Africa continues to experience intermittent epidemics in urban centers, the Americas have been free of a yellow fever epidemic for 80-plus years, only experiencing small and infrequent outbreaks.

Scientists are concerned that reprieve won't last for much longer.

In recent years, there's been a worrisome resurgence in yellow fever outbreaks in Africa and the Americas, possibly because of poor vaccine coverage (Bolding mine)

It Followed Me Home, Can I Keep It?

Man wakes up to find a giant cargo ship in his yard

It certainly was a rude awakening.
Johan Helberg was fast asleep in the early hours of Thursday when a huge container ship crashed into his garden, narrowly missing his home on the bank of Norway’s Trondheim Fjord.

“I went to the window and was quite astonished to see a big ship,” Helberg told the Norwegian broadcaster TV2, adding, “I had to bend my neck to see the top of it. It was so unreal.”

The 442-foot-long NCL Salten was sailing to the western city of Orkanger when it went off course and ran aground in Helberg’s yard at around 5 a.m. local time (11 p.m. ET).

Just a few feet “further south, and it would have entered the bedroom,” Helberg said in a separate interview with NRK, Norway’s public broadcaster.

Using Your Phone on The Toilet May Dramatically Increase Risk of Hemorrhoids

Reading on the toilet is something many people do, but the time-sucking powers of smartphones may have us sitting on the ceramic stool for an unhealthy amount of time.

A new survey has found that those who use their phones on the toilet face a 46 percent increased risk for hemorrhoids – swollen veins in the lower rectum, thought to be caused by too much pressure.

A participant's age, sex, body mass, exercise, or fiber intake did not have an impact on the results.

The survey – presented recently at the Digestive Diseases Week (DDW) conference in San Diego, CA – considered 125 participants who were receiving a colonoscopy. More than 40 percent had a hemorrhoid, and 93 percent said they used their phone on the toilet at least once a week.

The effect was not noted if you're reading Ace of Spades on the can.

Tonight's ONT has been brought to you by tough choices:

13 Willowed, but this can't be stressed enough.

Always keep in mind that HR works for Mangement, not you.

Their sole mission is to make Problems Go Away for Management, not to provide employees with justice, and they don't much care what they do to make the Problem Go Away, as long as they think they can get away with it.

Making Management wade through a mob of screeching gays with picket signs counts as a Problem for Management, while (e.g.) forcing out a straight white person does not.

And more reading. (I finished Gone With the Wind this week -- my first time reading the book.)

Took a little nap after supper...

Seeing the local grandchildren more.

A refreshing time so far!

Seriously, it’s like you guys only pay attention to American casualties when there’s a republican in office and an election coming up.

A serious right wing insurgency, even assuming 100% of the military sides with the deep state/left wins easily. Why? Because the people in our leftwing elites depend way more on the norms and safety of American life then Bubba and Jethro do.

Sure they can nuke Omaha or massacre people in the 'burbs but I don't think that helps them much. One similiar run in an elite neighborhood and the rest flee the country over night.

And if the military splits or sides primarily with the right? Well, let's just say their are plenty of guns in the hood, but why would they fight to make someone that uses Zer Pronouns continue to get fat and rich?

Lots of companies restrict company connections to the internet to business related uses.
But when your company wants to restrict some uses and not others depending on content they don't like, it's time to clean up the resume and GTFO.

And some companies contract out their content filtering and no have no clue what's actually being blocked. Which is also a clue to GTFO.

Indeed a classic, GWTW! I hadn't really thought about reading the book until I saw it on a display rack at the library. It whispered, "Read me." ;-)

There's a story about that. Supposedly a bunch of people went in on a group heroin buy.

Everyone who injected it went into an instant coma.

One guy who hadn't used it yet calls up Keith and says "That's bad stuff! Don't use it! Jim and Dave and Sam are all in comas!"

"Nonsense!", says Keith. "It's great stuff! Do you have any left? Don't throw it away! I'll buy it from you!"

It's certainly arguable the black pill would end a lot of death and destruction, but I definitely think the body count is much higher from abortion.

In the end, our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, God incarnate, has a special affinity for the little ones and his warning to those who harm them is especially a dire one.

Honestly, I think if the Lord said to me at this point in my life "if you allow yourself to be brutally murdered, I'll spare ten children", I'd take the offer.

But our God is a good God, and He doesn't ask us to do such things. How good is He? Well he took that deal Himself, for those kids and for me and you, too. And all those little ones taken by abortion are the ones gathered around the throne, ten thousand times ten thousand, praising the Lord while the court is seated and the books are opened.

Praise His holy name!

I previously mentioned two Saturday's ago she has been diagnosed with dementia. I should also mention she has been bedridden for some time since her knees finally gave out last August

Anyway...Very old, very frail, can't really string sentences together all that well and periodically confabulates events. Good news is she's still recognizes everyone. She's still *there*, if you understand what I mean. But she's unable to take care of herself. She's had rheumatoid arthritis for as long as I've been alive and it's left her body a complete wreck. We don't expect her to live much longer but we're all afraid of the possibility that she just kind of...lingers.

So...shit sucks. She had an episode over the weekend where she became non-responsive. They gave her some antibiotics for a suspected UTI which...may have helped? I'm wondering if she has had a TIA at some point. Dunno.

But right now it's a blessing that she still knows who we are.

Everything is fine, until a murder is committed with his trademark posing. The problem is, he didn't do it...

From the stories, they were friends. So I wouldn't be surprised.

But when you think about it, for good or ill, those two wrote two defining books in the mid-20th Century. After that, I guess it's hard to top.

Saw that with other great writers of the past. From the '20s and '30, you have Sinclair Lewis. Early works are great, 'Arrowsmith', 'Elmer Gantry', 'It Can't Happen Here'. After that, everything he wrote was a potboiler, like 'Cass Timberlane'.

Okay, mask's off, I'm a nerd.

381 Getting almost killed after being run over while out jogging one morning also did not help his future writings.

One of my favorite stories about Apollo’s Neil Armstrong, he was being interviewed and asked about exercise. NASA wasn’t too demanding, figuring all of their astronauts were adults. While they were expected to maintain a high level of fitness, nobody was going to check up on them per se, or give them a PT test. As a rule, combat fighter jocks and test pilots are not real hooah hooah about physical training.

Neil said “I believe we only have a finite number of heartbeats, I’m not going to waste mine running around the block”. About a week went by, and NASA public affairs had him “clarify” his statement where he predictably waxed enthusiastic about the wonderful benefits of exercise that he performs regularly, blah blah.

I was reading up on some of the wars in the Low Countries, the area north of France which was a constant point of contention for all of the Great Powers of the time. In the late 1600’s the Dutch sought to build a barrier line of fortresses to stop the French from staging a fast invasion, but it was noted at the time that even the most well constructed fortress could not hope to survive for more than 14 days against a serious military assault. Hopefully that would be enough time for a counterforce to reach the area.

403 Speaking of spheres, I was up one morning taking a piss just before dawn, and from my elevated position on a broad Mesa could see what I thought were car headlights maybe 8 or 10 miles away. Not unusual from my vantage point. But then I noticed they started moving very fast. “Somebody’s late for work” I thought. But then I realized, it could not be a car, way too fast. Then it shot up quite a bit and followed a fairly straight path, it was obviously some sort of aircraft, though without strobe, or red/green position indicators. Also, completely silent. Helicopters and planes make a tremendous amount of noise. Periodically it would go dark, and I could barely see something moving, and then it would light up again. Kind of strange. It had to be pretty large, too I think.

With drones, from my non-military perspective, such things as tanks seem doomed on the battlefield. A hundred-drone raid could wipe out a battalion of tanks.

Until motorized vehicles can have some sort of jamming/protection from drones, I think they'll be at risk. And that will change tactics.

There are big advances happening in Electronic Warfare and jamming in Ukraine, but many counter-advances, including unjammable drones flown by fiber optic cable and AI drones that can chase a target even if jammed.

Crazy stuff. I think the tank as a platform in peer conflicts is about dead. Probably even in third-world police actions before too long. Soon those drones will be everywhere.

424 King, in my opinion, just doesn’t know how or when to end his novels. For this reason I rate him as highly over-rated. But Hollywood seems to love him! Philip K. Dick has had a lot of movie adaptations too, but so much of his writing can’t be made into a movie: how would you make a movie of Ubik, for example?

If I am building a castle, it will basically be a fortified portal to an underground complex, reached by a spiral decline tunnel. Once you reach bottom of the decline, there will be a number of horizontal bores radiating out in all directions. Some will go to storerooms, living quarters, motor pools, and munitions bunkers. Several more will go to carefully concealed sally ports, so that you can evacuate your entire garrison in the event that the enemy enters the castle. And some tunnels will end a few yards short of breaking surface, and have tunnel-boring machines parked in them. Should the sally ports be compromised, fire up the tunneler, and dig out in a few hours or less.

One possible defense: cheap balloons carrying strings of contact mines. Fly dense rows of the balloons around you troop concentrations, whatever. If a drone hits a mine, it blows up, destroying the drone. You could also have the mines remotely detonated, by pointing an IR laser at a receiver on the balloon, and sending a coded signal. Pretty much un-jammable.

448 Another defense strategy against the quadcopter drones: a bunch of small mortars that fire small canister up into the air, to whatever elevation gets them above the expected drone swarm. Canisters explode, each disgorging thousands of feet of 1/8" Mylar tape, like used in tape cassettes. That stuff is very strong. Tape slowly drifts down. If a drone passes trough cloud of drifting tape, tape will get sucked into a rotor, wind around the spindle, and jam it. Loss of control, if not an outright crash, follows on.

Since the advent of nukes, defense is impossible. Even if you do have an unobtanium bunker, what good is it if the enemy turns your whole nation into a sheet of glowing glass above you?

A theory like Mutually Assured Destruction, or some other agreement to "play by the rules," or just being too valuable to destroy, are about the only defenses left.

492 Vegans. Bleh. They've got their very own special "foods" and restaurants and everything else-- they can just STFU about normie places and stay away, IMO.

493 Vegan option?

494 490 Will check repair sites tomorrow, I'm *in no mood* to deal with any more sh!t right now, LOL.

There's probably a simple solution, or repair parts available, as this fridge isn't very old.

JQ - your post the other night regarding the unsinkable row boat on the lake reminded of my boy-hood on a lake in Florida. We had an aluminum 'jonboat' - a row boat with a square front end and styrofoam under the seats - unsinkable. We'd spend hours swamping it and emptying it and swimming during the hot summer months.

Are there ice cubes in it but it's not dumping them?

501 Are there ice cubes in it but it's not dumping them?
Posted by: Reforger

Sort of. Evidently, it hasn't dumped for a while. Cubes in the tray are small, like they were fully formed, and then shrunk away. Tray will tilt partway, not dump, and then return to 'fill' position but no fill.

I replaced water filter just now-- it was overdue-- and flushed the water dispenser per instructions.

Shut off ice maker at its switch for 30 minutes or so, while I replaced filter & flushed.

Ice tray is still not filling.

502 My experience is that modern appliances do not have proper power supplies in them. Many run on line voltage that is regulated and filtered.

Thee nasty trash that makes it's way into your house eventually degrades these cheap ass line voltage regulators and one day, no power.

Posted by: pawn at May 30, 2025 03:26 AM (QB+5g)

503 Correction-- there *are* cubes in the tray. I think it filled a while ago while I was fiddling with the collection unit...

504 Still waiting to hear the *shhhnk* of ice falling....

510 Hope it's just a neighborhood cat, Reforger.

I have a motion-light that's fk'd up and just cycles on & off, randomly. Tried cleaning the sensor but no joy. Need to replace it. LOL, fml again...

512 Welp, ice tray keeps tilting partway & not dumping.

Guess I better buy a hairdryer and thaw the thing out, see if it's just jammed.

Meanwhile, turned it off and hope the gears are not already toasted.

Posted by: Miley, okravangelist at May 30, 2025 03:51 AM (w6EFb)

516 Miley-- in the 'back'?

So, maybe I should just unplug the damned thing for a few hours?

Great. I need to clean it all out anyway I suppose.

518 It's messed up. There isn't anything there. I shut it off.
I look now and realize I can see better in that camera without the light.

But what will alert me if the boogie man is creeping outside my shop?

Posted by: Reforger at May 30, 2025 03:59 AM (xcIvR)

519 Replace the light, Reforger.

That's what I will do. One day. LOL. Another item on my long list of to-do's.
