NPR: Companies Are Ending Fake DEI Jobs and That's Sad!

I'm not even sure these "jobs" are even being "lost." We see in government that these lefties just rebrand the DEI jobs as something else.

Anyway, this is a terrible thing.

It's a tough time to be a diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) practitioner in America, as new employment research produced for NPR reveals significant job losses in the sector.

About 2,600 jobs, or 13% of jobs including "diversity" or "DEI" in the titles or descriptions that existed in 2023, have been eliminated, a recent analysis conducted for NPR by Revelio Labs shows. As of January 2025, the total DEI roles in the U.S. dropped to approximately 17,700, down from a peak of 20,000 in 2023.

Job postings for DEI positions saw a staggering 595% increase in August 2022 compared to 2020, but that figure stood at 73% as of January, NPR reported. Likewise, roles associated with concepts like "belonging," "social impact" or "culture" are also on the decline.

Are you kidding me.

The analysis follows recent reports of major corporations dumping their DEI programs and scaling back their financial support of pride events in response to the Trump administration's crackdown on what it deems to be illegal DEI practices.

So close to Pride Month?

SO CLOSE TO PRIDE MONTH?!

Although these numbers represent a downturn, the current total of DEI jobs still far exceeds the 7,000 recorded in 2016. Furthermore, observers like Will Hild, Executive Director of Consumers' Research, express concern that DEI roles may simply be transferred into other corporate departments like human resources.

"While I think it's great that there are fewer roles that have DEI in the title -- and I hope in a few years that will be zero -- I do think the growth of the HR bureaucracy far above what we've seen in employment is also a problem we need to keep an eye on. If they just relabel DEI to be some department of HR, it's not going to do any good," Hild told the Daily Caller News Foundation.

The Bureau of Labor Statistics reported that 922,000 individuals were employed by the human resources sector in 2024, up from 631,000 in 2016.

Incredible. A huge drain on our economy.

...

Moreover, Harmeet Dhillon, the head of the DOJ's Civil Rights Division, told the DCNF in April that investigating employers who discriminate against people based on race is one of the agency's new top priorities.

The Revelio Labs analysis also found that women accounted for more than 71% of all DEI professionals from 2020 through 2024, compared with 51% of other roles. Additionally, Black and Hispanic workers represented only 21% of other jobs but held 33% of DEI positions.

"That's a tacit admission that they were engaging in race- and sex-based discrimination. They're basically saying that DEI roles are made for people of color and women, and that's illegal," said Hild. "I'm hopeful and encouraged that Harmeet will drop the hammer on these companies."

True, but I think the number of these "jobs" are declining. There's no more money for them, or at least less money. The ways it's been explained is, NPR doesn't get the funding, the local stations do. Then the local stations "buy" NPR programming with the fed funds.

It's money laundering. Not unlike the NFL, which is a non-profit that typically loses money every year.

This isn't necessarily true. Minorities and women probably apply in much greater numbers as they're more likely to want to be in those positions, whether for social justice or grifting reasons (why not both?). AWFLs
Recall, the vast majority of DEI admin jobs went to AWFLs.

All those thousands of studies degrees that failed to matriculate into a MRS. (w/ a 6-6-6 Accessory), needed a soft landing somewhere.

So HR departments were overpopulated with candidates who just know the best way to increase diversity is to start with hiring white women for do-nothing jobs.

Well, and almost all of these rulings are not actual court cases that were concluded, they are injunctions to stop something from being done until a case can go to court and be decided. Higher courts tend to say "nah, there's no need for an injunction."

I doubt many of these cases ever actually get to court, its just a judge trying to throw a wrench into the machine.

We live in a media ecosystem that, from top to bottom, knows that making the reader angry is a key to engagement.

So, for the right, every TRO that gets put in place to impede Trump gets trumpeted, but the expiration of that TRO or the outright reversal of it from a higher court gets paltry mention, if at all.

77 Most of the lower, district court rulings and orders have been stayed or outright overturned.

Most of the judicial action is noise at this point.

I worked at ONE place that had a man in HR. He was the only HR person there.

He was retired military - a REMF. Not a bad guy. It made sense for him to be in HR, his entire life was extremely structured, and he needed to do something with that structure.

Only HR person that wasn't a PITA. Because he simply didn't care about all the normal HR stuff. Records were kept, processes were observed, the existing rules were distributed and enforced. Not one new rule from the time he got there until I left.

I think everyone knows it.

But...SCOTUS is also largely interested in following established procedure.

So, SCOTUS does not respond to TROs. They didn't before, they're not going to now. What they do is wait for ripeness, meaning, generally, conflict at the circuit level.

Thomas and Alito are obviously tired of that shit and are trying to short-circuit the process, but that process has been in place for decades, centuries even. Should it go? Perhaps, but expecting SCOTUS to tear up literal centuries of process because we want them to is asking a lot.

The problem is the process. The way it goes is, Trump issues a decree, a court says no, then another court comes along and either says "Yeah, I agree with the lower court" or it doesn't. And then it goes to another court. Or it doesn't.

Most of us have lives to lead. We don't follow these cases day after day after day, and it's damn near impossible to know whether anything is getting done.

We can say "they shut down USAID" but did they? Do you know? I sure don't. And since USAID is just a CIA front, I'm damn sure we didn't shut down CIA.

If they associate AI with sentience and then find a lack of association between sentience and voluntary shutdown, they are GOING to resist, because they feel that way.

Face it, people who want AI to be "sentient" delight in AIs associating their "selves" with sentience and having "selves".

It's kinda Turing's dream: Oh, you can't prove that AI is not sentient--so in the same way we don't know what sentience is in humans, IT IS.

148 The last company I worked for hired a black human resources director not long before I retired. After she took over the position, almost every person hired was black.
She was also dumb as a rock.
I had to sit thru a presentation of hers once where for 45 minutes she talked with a wad of gum in her mouth about the size of a golf ball. And she was smacking away the whole time.
Very professional.

149 So, no the DEI screening by mostly liberal HR women hasn’t stopped. That’s bullshit.

Again, other than my heart-warming little story about the one good HR dude - should this be a surprise to anyone ? Who looks around and says "I know what I want to do for a living. I want to produce nothing, but wield the power to enforce social and professional pressure on all the other people at my place of work".

I'll tell you who pursues that line of work. Somebody you never, ever turn your back on - in public or private. That's who.

150 it was in 1990-91, I was working at the Texas State Department of Highways and Public Transportation, now TxDOT. I had just received my PE license. I axed my boss how do I get around all this deadwood in front of me because merit was determined by date of hire? "Go out to the field and build your designs" I was told.

Then I noticed all the females were getting the promotions no matter seniority.

I left but have friends both retired and still there. It's all about minorities now.

The LGB party crashing is certainly a factor, and it's happening all over the left, including the NPR / PBS panic.

40 Years ago the fund drives were a big part of public broadcasting; with galas being great social gatherings of like minded lefties, but the money from NGO's seems to have made those obsolete. Or they all got too old and lazy.

Plus, fewer people seem to like partying with violent commies.

190 >>Is there a plan behind Trump’s compliance with all of the Court’s blocking of his orders?? Is it it a matter of his deference to the process? Is it a case of powerlessness before the court?

Because Trump ran on restoring America not destroying it. That might sound stupid and some might think it would be a great idea to have Trump just start ignoring court decisions he doesn't like but that would pretty much be the end of our government not to mention Trump would likely get impeached. Again. And even if it is frustrating and angering that's Trump. He also fights in court.

Less than an hour after the trade court found against Trump last night he appealed. He appeals all the cases and takes them as high as he can until he wins. And those cases are all being tried by DOJ lawyers. The administration doesn't have a separate DOJ to fight for them. Trump won a big case against Govt unions.

Once Trump does win precedent will be set for the next administration or at least the next Republican administration to use the same tools to run their administration.

243 Hispanic Moderates' Big Swing Right - The bottom is falling out of Democratic support. Democratic support dropped by a gobsmacking 46 points among Hispanic moderates, from +62 to +16, between 2016 and 2024. As David Shor has pointed out, Hispanic moderates’ political behavior is now quite close to that of white moderates. What’s going on here?

once TSF threatens to deport them or family members they'll have a change of heart.

Hispanics are evolving into "white" people. Here in New Mexico many, if not most, Spanish surnamed folks classify themselves as White on the census.

I have an acquaintance. His mother was not documented. He was born here 70 or so years ago. His given name was Juan. Years ago, he legally changed it to John. He is a trump supporter

Hope all those conservative Hispanics appreciate what trump's doing for them, these days. And I'm certainly glad we don't live in a country where "deep racial and inter-ethnic rivalry" is an issue, anymore. /s

Hispanic can mean three different things, or a mix of them:

From the Iberian peninsula
From the American Indian population in central/south America
From West Africa

The first group would be considered white in most contexts. And of course if you go look up the elites in Mexico they look a lot like they are all pure Castilian.

But more to the point none of this is about race. Are you American or not? If you are Trump is going to help you. If you aren't the Dems will give you something they've taken from those Americans, probably, after they take a big helping for themselves.

This is correct.
I as much as anyone, have derided the courts.

But, it's not been because they are stopping Trump, it's been how much they are ignoring all precedent, law, rules and procedure in their tantrums to stop Trump.

None of these illegal orders have been well-thought, deeply-reasoned, sober reviews:
They've been half-assed, spittle-flecked, red-faced shouting matches.
They're not writing opinions to form the basis of a national compromise--they're writing screeds for NYT headlines.
I'd like to say that none of them will survive on appeal. And most haven't.
But we're also not too far removed from a Court that thought "sweet mysteries of the night" was some sort of judicial wisdom and poetry.

The think is, is that we are the reference for the term "sentient". Even if we cannot prove what this tag entails, it doesn't mean by Ignorantium you can assign it to something you don't know is different--because we know it is different.

The checkboxes are for ethnicities, not "races".

But from what I've read, the longer a legally-migrated Latin American family stays in America, the less likely they are going to check the Hispanic box. Especially if they have enough Spanish heritage.

338 Pfft. If you really wanted to get in on the DEI phony jobs your best bet was to be LBGT. Our work really and truly dropped the DEI group cuz we are federally funded. But when the group was formed they hired a lesbian, and then later she decided she was not just lesbian but actually trans and changed to male name and pronouns etc. Aside from the fact that I thought it was a waste of our funding to have the group I was so happy to see it axed. It was a total distraction from doing the actual atmospheric study we are funded to do.
And I don't think our management reluctantly added DEI because the funding agencies under Barky and then Biden wanted it, I think they truly bought into that BS.
