Rubio Announces Ban on Visas for Foreigners Who Work to Suppress Free Speech in America

This won't affect too many people, but I do think it's healthy to begin expressing the correct level of hostility and contempt for people who attempt to subvert Americans' right to free speech.

[Rubio] took that a step further today by announcing that the State Department will no longer issue visas to "foreign officials and persons who are complicit in censoring Americans."
"For too long, Americans have been fined, harassed, and even charged by foreign authorities for exercising their free speech rights," Rubio posted on X, adding, "Free speech is essential to the American way of life -- a birthright over which foreign governments have no authority."
In another post, he said, "Foreigners who work to undermine the rights of Americans should not enjoy the privilege of traveling to our country. Whether in Latin America, Europe, or elsewhere, the days of passive treatment for those who work to undermine the rights of Americans are over."

We can't exile American citizens involved in this effort (yet...) but we can ban censorious foreigners.

The VRA is long-held precedent that the federal government has every right to tell states how to run federal elections.

It'd be fun if the DOJ applied the VRA in some way to places like California. Sure, the state could run completely separate elections for state/local and then federal elections at their own expense, but that's a CA problem.
