Trump Directs Government to End All Contracts With Harvard

Good:

In a letter sent Tuesday, the Trump administration is directing all federal agencies to terminate or transition away from their contracts with Harvard University, citing racial discrimination, anti-Semitism, and violations of federal law.

Key Details:

The letter, dated May 27th, was issued by Federal Acquisition Service Commissioner Josh Gruenbaum and sent to senior procurement officials across the federal government.

The letter criticizes Harvard's race-based admissions practices, referencing the Supreme Court's decision in Students for Fair Admissions v. Harvard, where admissions rates reportedly varied significantly by race: 56% for African Americans, 31% for Hispanics, 15% for Whites, and 13% for Asians.

It also cites reports of antisemitic incidents on campus, unlawful hiring practices, and decisions by Harvard committees approving student leaders with histories of violent behavior--calling the leadership's actions a "clear signal of tolerance for, if not outright endorsement of, student-on-student violence."

He also said he might divert all money formerly earmarked for Harvard to trade schools.

President Trump proposed reallocating $3 billion in federal funding from Harvard to U.S. trade schools, calling the university "very antisemitic" and saying the funds would be better spent elsewhere.

Key Details:

Trump said investing in trade schools would be "a great investment" that is "so badly needed!!!"

Harvard rejected Trump administration demands tied to civil rights and merit-based policies.

Trump has already pulled over $2 billion in federal funds and is seeking accountability for Harvard's foreign student list.

Diving Deeper:

President Donald Trump announced Monday that he's weighing the possibility of shifting a $3 billion federal grant earmarked for Harvard University toward U.S. trade schools, escalating an ongoing standoff between his administration and the Ivy League institution. Trump made the statement in a post on Truth Social, describing the idea as "a great investment" for the country and one that is "so badly needed!!!"

The proposal follows months of back-and-forth between Harvard and the Trump administration that began with an April letter demanding the university justify its public funding by complying with federal civil rights laws. That letter called on Harvard to foster a campus environment conducive to "intellectual creativity and scholarly rigor" while instituting specific reforms--such as merit-based hiring and admissions, increased transparency, and addressing longstanding concerns of antisemitism and political bias within certain programs.

Harvard pushed back against those demands, asserting that it was "not prepared to agree to demands that go beyond the lawful authority of this or any administration." In response, Trump moved to pull more than $2 billion in federal funding from the university, according to reporting by the Daily Caller.

Last week, the Department of Homeland Security attempted to revoke Harvard's authorization to admit and host foreign students, but a federal judge swiftly blocked the measure. However, the broader termination of grant funding remains in place.

WitchDoktor, if you're still here and referring to Fairfax County Public Schools, that wasn't the case in the 70's and 80's. FCPS was one of the best school systems in the country. Until 1981, it was 100-94 = A, 93-87 = B, 86-80 = C, 79-73 = D. No + or - and you had to turn work in on time.

45 Simple solution - to gain admission, all students must take the SAT. This is a blind test - the graders don't know you name or address. Students scoring about a certain level gain automatic admission. Students scoring below a certain level do not gain admission. the middle group goes to a lottery and gains admission randomly.

Your diversity is based on who applies. It's all merit based. No legacy admissions. No essays. No team of reviewers.

If you want more black people, then Harvard must go to places where they are and tutor them so they can pass the SAT test and gain admission.

74 Personally, I think some of what the Turmp administration is asking for is absurd. But then again, Harvard's behavior has been absurd. If they had acted swiftly and decisively regarding the racial incidents don campus, they wouldn't be in this predicament. And Trump gave them ample opportunities to correct the problem. It's their own dick headed obstinance, and insistence in doing things their way, that has created this crisis.

Jewish students WERE assaulted and harassed on campus, and you never punished the people who did that. Classes WERE disrupted by protestors. Harvard keeps acting like this is negotiable - no, it isn't. Students who participated in that behavior should be expelled, and if they are foreign students sent home, full stop. There is no negotiation on this.

While an unelected, unaccountable, unrestrained federal judge ordering the President to act is an actual dictatorship.

We have, in this country, a de facto dictatorship, a politburo of 10 to 15 federal judges who have usurped all Legislative and Executive authority to themselves.

They are denying the will of the voters.
They are destroying the rule of law.
They are tyrants who have seized control of the nation on behalf of a radical minority, a leftist cabal of quasi-royalty.
They have taken to themselves and stolen the authority to rule this nation--above Congress, above the President and above all, the People.

252 The Guardian: US federal judges consider creating own armed security force as threats mount. Federal judges are discussing a proposal that would shift the armed security personnel responsible for their safety away from the Department of Justice (DoJ) and under their own control, as fears mount that the Trump administration is failing to protect them from a rising tide of hostility.

That would involve bringing the US marshals service under the direct control of the head of the judiciary, Chief Justice John Roberts. At present, marshals fall under the remit of Pam Bondi, the US attorney general. Bondi was appointed by the president and is a Trump loyalist. She has made clear she will be guided by him – breaking a decades-long norm that kept the White House at arm’s length from the DoJ to ensure law enforcement and prosecutorial independence.

US Marshals showed themselves from day one as Trump's Nazi Gestapo. Helping Musk illegally break into buildings and harassing people.

This is what judges get for coddling Trump. As a convicted felon he shouldn't have been allowed on the ballot but John Roberts and crew failed to follow the Constitution.

314 Even with a waiver the insurance cost was outrageous and since I was paying for all of this out of my own pocket they priced me out of doing it.

315 It's possible the most inaccurate, misleading, or just plain stupid common term in use today is "activist" as applied to lawless judges. It simply has no descriptive value for what it purports to name.

These judges are just capricious political actors, typically lawless, at best just playing with the stupid court-made law they themselves have confected - and now not even following their own procedural guidelines. Their actions constitute sabotage of the (residual) constitutional system - brazen and indefensible sabotage.

"Activist" doesn't begin to convey anything of importance about their malfeasance. But like with so much else, even the "right" side of the discussion is addicted to poor language and false frameworks (because even they bring limited intellectual firepower to the table).

316 Great move, but get rid of all of these payments to any colleges, and don’t give any to trade schools. That will just lead to more corruption. Let the free market do its thing.

317 As of May 2025, the average annual salary for employees at IAM Boeing in the United States is $94,246. This translates to an approximate hourly wage of $45. Salaries at IAM Boeing typically range from $82,417 to $107,843 annually

Posted by: "Perfessor" Squirrel

Same at my place. The universities are going to have to start making service contracts with their faculty specifying how much building and low-level admin support they get, instead of just charging a percentage.
Posted by: FeatherBlade at May 27, 2025 01:44 PM (hB7mE)

They definitely don't want to do that...because everyone will see how little they do for that money. Once when trying to get a custom set up computer using a real time Unix OS I had to go to war to keep the purchasing from trying to use his cousin's PC place which was charging double market rates.

I'd have paid to get them to leave me alone.

319 I'm shocked. 82 yr old David Geffen is divorcing his 32 yr old former go-go dancer husband. Outside of sodomy what could they have in common.

His money. Which I'm sure they both knew was the deal from the start just like Anna Nicole Smith and her billionaire geezer. I don't get why people seem so shocked by that kind of stuff as long as both parties are adults and know what they're getting into.

321 Pay varies wildly by region, but $32-35 per hour seems pretty standard. Lots of guys report they can get all the OT they want, though.

Posted by: bonhomme at May 27, 2025 01:38 PM (lIio7)

My son is doing $40 per hour in an Aviation shop. They turned me down and I taught him everything he knows. I'm too old I guess.
After 40 years doing that heavy crap I'm happy for my desk job.
Work is trying to get me into their maintenance department as I work swing and they figured out what I'm capable off. They are constantly making me do side projects. "When you have time could you..."
"Sure".
I knocked out 8 huge rolling double computer stands in about 2 hours and the whole maint dept took 8 to do 3. AND I cleaned up my (and their) fucking mess.
I just really don't want to do that crap anymore so I hauled ass and unintentionally made them look bad.

323 Let the trade wars begin! Many people forget that some of the dumbest, most unethical fucksticks are contractors in the trades.

Do you think all of these smarty pants college kids can handle what's going to happen with the unions and all of goons pretending to be contractors? The trades are filled with hacks and they're not going to give up their piece of the pie so readily.

The smartest guy in the room is always the guy who barely passed his GED. There will be lawlessness and violence.

Yes, this is the way to get around nosey judges. Just let government do it's normal practice of being an impediment of getting things done. And if it just so happens that Harvard's visa applications get especially slow, well sorry, not sorry.

GREAT!

Now let's do the same thing to ALL universities and stop any new student loans, and ship the 99% of foreign students out of the country.

Then, we can watch as tuition prices go DOWN for...get this...

337 For NemoMeImpuneLacessit: Some of the greatest comebacks in history occurred at the Harvard-Yale "The Game" Football games since 1875.
For example:
(1912): "I know you are, but what am I?"
(1937): "If you won't, maybe you should!"
(1983): "That's what yo Mama said!"

Good Golly!!!

338 Trump is still sore that the Lampoon, (founded 1876) tricked him and his early naive staff during the first weeks of his nascent campaign to believe that the campus rival (and even more liberal) daily newspaper, The Harvard Crimson, would ENDORSE Trump. They did a fake photoshoot at Trump Tower with Trump sitting in the, ahem, stolen, Crimson's large oak "presidents'" chair giving a thumbs-up. Pretty good college prank. However, as fair play, they should throw him an honorary member dinner just to get back at Harvard. He would then join James Montgomery Flagg, John Wayne, Natalie Wood, Randy Macho Man Savage, Mr. T., Linda Lovelace, Brooke Shields as honoraries. Even the Hawk Tu'ah girl got invited.
