We couldn't contact your husband but we found his brother and he was able to give us names. OMG she thought, that idiot! What did he name them ? she asked the nurse. Well, he named the girl Denise That not too bad, she thought. What did he name the boy? Da Nephew..... Posted by: Anonymous Rogue in Kalifornistan (ARiK) at May 21, 2025 07:44 PM (+ye8Q) 10

Thank G-d we had a proper spring day today, instead of overcast and violent downpours.
I swear, if it weren't for the warmth, I'd think I lived in PNW instead of Appalachia this May. It's depressing. And it ruins time for the kids who want to play, and it's done severe and continual damage to my garden, particularly the annuals. But today was beautiful. And now I'm sitting in the cool mountain breeze, listening to the fountains and the birds, the way spring is supposed to work, instead of getting pounded by rain constantly under a roof of gloom. Back from my nap. For the two hours I was down, I think I slept maybe 45 minutes. I just put the ice tea from the restaurant in the fridge for tomorrow. Just ice water from here on tonight, maybe some Body Armor… I pushed myself too much in town, at our only Greek restaurant (not counting the Turkish place, as they don’t admit that their dishes are really Greek), just wanted some dolmades. So, I got some and some American-style Chef Salad. Even with the delicious house dressing (Greek, of course) I can’t really call that a Greek dish. They had a Greek salad, of course, but the Chef had more protein. So, by the end of the meal my hip started hurting, and I had to leave a little early. I paid and left a good tip for my waitress who was very attentive, but I didn’t get any relief until I was lying down flat. Even then I had trouble sleeping (too much caffeine?). So here I am back. Thank you for listening. God bless you!

take Benadryl almost every night. Yeah. I’m addicted. There are worse addictions, I reckon. Posted by: nurse ratched at May 21, 2025 09:32 PM (mT+6a) I use a drug called tizanidine. Originally took it for back spasms. But I found out it knocks me straight the fuck out, even if with a quarter dose. Sleeping like a baby. But it does make me sweat in my sleep. Once I start sleeping normally again after a few days, I don't miss it when I stop. Not a doctor. Just a suggestion. Posted by: Yudhishthira's Dice at May 21, 2025 09:37 PM (BI5O2) 111

I use the better sleep app. It’s got some woke stuff, but easy to skip it and use the rest of the app. It has a lot of great things on it, music, colored noise, meditations, etc. it really helps me as I am a very light sleeper.

Tizanidine is a pretty safe medication. You are using it properly. Once you get your system back to sleeping, discontinue.
I do not get a benedryl hangover. But. I cannot sleep otherwise. Once I became a mother, my spidey senses kicked in and they have never turned off. I wake at the slightest noise. It is infuriating. Posted by: nurse ratched at May 21, 2025 09:43 PM (mT+6a) 115
Benadryl -
I quote from the Wikipedia article: Diphenhydramine is a first-generation antihistamine and an anticholinergic drug. Anticholinergic drugs block the action of acetylcholine, a neurotransmitter in the central nervous system.[13] Studies propose that long-term use of anticholinergic drugs is associated with an increased risk for dementia among older people.[14][13] Long-term use of Benadryl can also lead to constipation and confusion.[15] Posted by: NemoMeImpuneLacessit at May 21, 2025 09:44 PM (ZVgZ4) 116
I remember that one New Bohemians video from back in the day... "What I Am." I used to call it the Popeye Song when I was a kid.

56 Did you do dioramas in school as a kid? I remember doing one of the river Styx and one of Ecuador.
Posted by: fd at May 21, 2025 08:27 PM (vFG9F) --- Plenty. I only remember one. It was a scene from one of the Little House on the Prairie stories where that bitch Nellie Olsen comes out of the river covered in leeches. Ha! It still makes me laugh. I got an A, of course. Why not try melatonin rather than Benadryl, aka diphenhydramine? Only side effect for me was drowsiness the next morning. So I didn’t use it while working: taught an early morning class MWF. Now that I’m retired it wouldn’t be a problem unless I had to get up early to give blood for testing.

Melatonin can interact with other meds, so you need to be mindful of that and long term use carries risks as well - mood changes is a big one.

I realized watching tonite's Oliers-Stars game that ice hockey is unique (maybe) in team sports. Players use linear sliding supports (skates) for the legs. Meaning that for maximum effectiveness hockey players have to be able to use those sliding supports (skates) without consciously thinking about it.

Ok nurse, not wanting to preach - who am I kidding, I would preach if it would bring souls to Christ, but I know the Paraclete must come first, so I hold myself back. As long as you’re going to Heaven, the rest doesn’t matter so much… God bless you!

I've been averaging 3 hours of sleep a night for two weeks, with little naps here and there elsewhen. I am slowly going insane. Benadryl does nothing for me (other than helping with allergies when they are bad). I guess I should take melatonin. I sometimes do but haven't lately. Nothing else is helping.

I will use Melatonin or benedryl if I am really wound up.
Generally, though, I use a small mp3 player and listen to boring podcasts. The Tetrapod Zoology podcast stopped recording new episodes, so I had to move to three university paleontologists who get drunk and discuss scholarly papers on paleontology Posted by: Kindltot at May 21, 2025 09:58 PM (D7oie) 129

I listen to a CD (really a rip of the CD on my iPod that I’ve got hooked up to mr sound system in the bedroom). It’s called “Sleep on a Train” and it has the sounds of an Amtrak sleeper car traveling down the Florida coast. Those tracks are riveted so you get that clickety-clack sound. The train starts out at the station with a call for “All Aboard,” and the doors being shut. Then the train slowly speeds up as the city is left behind and the driver opens her up for the country. It was recorded in real time and lasts over an hour while gradually fading the volume. It usually puts me to sleep in nothing flat…I do like train travel when I can do it: roomettes are better than a cabin for sleeping in my book. I think they used to call them bed-sitters… Just a thought.

Melatonin never worked for me--in fact, it had the opposite effect of that desired, kept me up longer than normal.
