Paid Liar Jen Psaki's Ratings Tank

Rachel Maddow has gone back to her one-day-a-week gig, collecting $25 million per year for this tiny amount of "work" like a good socialist, and it's now on the slender shoulders of Ginger Clownwhore Jen Psaki to keep the dying cable channel alive.

It's not looking great.

It was a Psaki bomb.

Former Biden press secretary Jen Psaki tanked with a key demographic in her new show's second episode -- indicating possible trouble for her future ratings.

Her new gig features her show "The Briefing" in MSNBC's prime time slot, at 9 p.m. on Tuesdays through Fridays, while "The Rachel Maddow Show" pivots to only being on air Mondays.

"The Briefing" had a strong showing of 1.2 million viewers on Tuesday, with 139,000 viewers in the key demographic of people ages 25 to 54.

But viewership quickly dropped Wednesday, with 1 million viewers tuning in -- and just 65,000 people in the coveted demographic tuning in, according to Fox News.

"The demo" is usually defined as ages 25-54. That kind of a range. People with jobs who can afford to buy stuff, and people who are young enough and callow enough to have their buying choices influenced by advertising.

In other words, "the demo" is all of us. We're right in the meat of the demo with our nearly-universal "almost 29" age demographic.

For comparison, Fox News' Sean Hannity got 2.64 million viewers on Tuesday at 9 p.m. with 312,000 in the highly desired demographic, while CNN's Kaitlan Collins eked out 468,000 total viewers but scored 75,000 people ages 25 to 54 watching.

The former press secretary had left her job at the White House in 2022 to pursue a gig at the liberal outlet, and began hosting "Inside with Jen Psaki" on Sundays in March 2023.

...

[M]addow had managed to bring in better numbers when she held the prime spot.

The host averaged a total of 1.9 million viewers and 141,000 among viewers aged 25-54, per Fox, meaning that Psaki's Wednesday episode had brought down the number of viewers by a total of 46% and 54% in the important demo.

Adweek, a publication which seems left-wing and very pro-MSNBC, spins MSNBC's collapsed ratings as "mixed" and says it's merely experiencing a "slow start" with its new lineup.

MSNBC's new programming lineup finished its first full week, and the numbers were mixed. The network experienced week-to-week declines in total viewers and the Adults 25-54 demo during primetime and total day. MSNBC continued to miss Rachel Maddow's nightly presence as it fell by double-digits in both measured categories during primetime.

So MSNBC's ratings fell in all categories by double-digits and that's "mixed"?

Meanwhile, Fox News had 96 of the top 100 cable news telecasts and was the most-watched cable news network during the announcement of Pope Leo XIV's election.

...

MSNBC's primetime lineup averaged 892,000 total viewers and 77,000 A25-54 viewers for declines of -12% and -13%, respectively.

During total day, MSNBC averaged 564,000 total viewers and 52,000 demo viewers for respective dips of -2% and -5% in those measured categories.

Among all basic cable networks, MSNBC stayed at No. 4 in total viewers and dropped four spots from No. 15 to No. 19 in the demo during primetime. Across total day, it remained at third place in total viewers and remained at No. 13 in the demo.

Mixed.

Well their agenda is typically to make money but the hard left has managed to infiltrate a lot of boards and convinced people that they real path to money IS to push the left's agenda. They convinced these companies that while it might upset a small portion of their customers, it will drive away the bulk of the youngest prime demo customers to NOT do so... drive them to the competition who does.

87 But does it ever strike you how much "we" have come around on that ? I was a big deregulate guy back in the day. Now ? I'm as big a cynic on Big Corp as any 1970s hippie.

I think we need to be very careful here. I am as close to a free speech absolutist as can be, but I do still recognize that all freedoms have boundaries of free expression in a functioning society (such as slander).

We have to make sure that any limits on expression are only ones of absolute necessity to civilization, and always be incredibly suspicious of government power. But with the idea of pharmacy ads, I have ALWAYS had serious problems with the idea. Advertising OTC drugs, fine. That's consumer choice. But pharmacy stuff is restricted behind a barrier of expert and trained specialists for a reason.

89 In all of the above, this is the line that got me. We have got to, as soon as possible, unlearn ourselves of a lot of the crap that was taught to us in High School Econ about the behavior of corporations.

Thanks to DOGE, we already know many media sources were being paid with our tax dollars. I don't think any of us will be surprised to learn that some of these cable outfits were getting paid from sources that don't include advertising dollars.

Sorry, not sorry, I'm not buying the typical "it all used to be better until the Left corrupted it all" trope. Its been this way our entire lives.

For example, the Ford Foundation. Established in the 1930s. By the 1950s they were funding the arts and humanities - not exactly a bastion of conservatism. By the 1960s - they were into contraception as a declared means of population control. By the 70s - loans to Bangladesh.

Look, to steal a line from Ace, know "Muh Corporations" is a big rallying cry for the Old School Right. Like I said, we need to unlearn a lot of the crap we were taught.

Frankly, I don't understand why the Left EVER wanted to limit them. And other than the indoctrination at a young age, I don't know why a free self-governing people ever trusted them.

She does not have a face for television, no. She's not hideous but she's in the Tater category of "got the job for having a specific ideological perspective" than talent or charisma.

For example, the Ford Foundation. Established in the 1930s. By the 1950s they were funding the arts and humanities - not exactly a bastion of conservatism. By the 1960s - they were into contraception as a declared means of population control. By the 70s - loans to Bangladesh.

Sure, all businesses have always had an agenda in addition to making money. None were entirely without any interest or inclination EXCEPT earnings. But earnings are the purpose of existence and meaning of corporations, and that has never changed.

I have not argued they used to be ideologically pure. I pointed out that they are still driven by the desire for cash, but they have been fooled to think that pushing for the left's agenda IS the way to make cash.

They aren't the failures, their parents are. Kids are a reflection of what they are taught, and it's been all down hill for decades. The Boomers get (rightly) picked on because they broke the chain that tied the present to the past.

If you go back to the beforetimes, you see clear lines of continuity. People married young, had big families, gender roles were accepted and religion dominated public life.

All of that was swept away and we now stumble around the wreckage wondering what can even be done.

To put it another way, you can't tell a generation to bootstrap itself up when they were forbidden to have boots out fear they might kick someone.

Had a neighbor that in the dead of winter, freezing, with a couple of feet of snow on the ground, would run out and turn on his sprinkler to prevent us kids from playing football that sometimes crossed over onto his lawn.

Yes, he f'd up his outdoor faucet a couple times when it froze solid.

177 When any person or organization does something for decades - its not a temporary condition. It is what they are

Sure, but the thing is we all know from our extensive years of experience that the behavior of companies now is new and different than they used to be.

They used to have an inclination by their founder and corporate culture to back and support certain ideas. Usually charity choices to help with tax breaks, but often just "I like this cause."

That's changed now, they are far worse now. They aren't donating to causes, they are actively promoting them in their advertising and products. They aren't donating to politicians to get a good mood from whoever is elected, they are using their money to promote specific politics. Its far, far more worse and more extreme than it ever was.

Even in the 70s, when Coke would do a hippie ad, it was not specific about leftist causes. The would promote basic anodyne concepts like "peace" and "brotherhood" not "your sister can be your brother" and "homosexuals parading naked on the street is my bag."

And the source of that is not corporate political leaning like it used to be

The parents voted for the school board. They voted for the politicians who tore down our institutions and generally just shrugged it all off.

A big factor in the decline was the collapse of family formation, meaning less people got married and had kids, so they checked out on maintaining the guardrails society needs to hold itself together.

And yes, having been targeted by agents of the state for using the "wrong" pronouns on one of my kids, I know how forlorn that resistance can be.

The leading edge of Boomers turned 20 in the late 60s, which is when things went off the rails. It's so weird to look at the style of "Breakfast and Tiffany's" when men wore hats and everyone dressed up and New York was neat and safe and realize how close they were to the end of all of that.

And of course it didn't happen all at once, it was a long, slow grind until Boomers became the preponderant demographic, taking over from the fading Silent Generation and dominating Gen X with a massive numerical advantage. Bill Clinton's election symbolized that changing of the guard, and it's crazy how fast morality collapsed.

283 >>And of course it didn't happen all at once, it was a long, slow grind until Boomers became the preponderant demographic, taking over from the fading Silent Generation and dominating Gen X with a massive numerical advantage.

It was members of the silent generation that gave us the beginning of what we now call the Deep State. Ronald Reagan to be precise.

After Carter demolished much of the operations side of the CIA, Reagan helped found and fund the National Endowment for Democracy. That was one of the very first NGOs and despite its lovely name it was tasked with basically doing what the old CIA operations wing did. That was the beginning of the country being run and manipulated by career bureaucrats and put us where we are today.

I happen to like Reagan and think he did many good things but that was a major clusterfuck of an idea. It's silly to blame any one generation and think they uniquely created all the problems of the world. It's always been a group effort. There are good and bad in every generation, every part of society, and we are all a result of those who came before us. Your generation will get their time in the box.

Kind of. Rather, what it establishes in your mind is that there’s a pill for whatever ails you. Maybe you don’t have plaque psoriasis, but those good folks at Big Pharma are looking out for the people who do.

And then, when your doctor says you need a new $500 /month pill, you’re more receptive. Most doctors these days are pharma salespeople. The ads reinforce that relationship. “Ask your doctor about..”

Don't think too many were hippie marchers. I think the way it worked was there was a generation change between the old cold war leaders and major players and their lower staff. As the Cold War ended the leaders retired, and the lower staff got elevated to the top. But with less practical experience than the old bosses the new wave in the 90s decided it was too much work to change worldviews, so they kept the Russia Bad US Policeman going with an increasingly bad fit and discarded the logistics backing it all up. And our worldview became increasingly divergent from the actual world situation. This peaked in Ukraine where the planning was that one round of sanctions not including oil and gas would cause Russia to collapse. When that did not happen they had no plan for how to get out of it, and still don't. But they want to fight forever with no proxy, no weapons, and no economy to build arms.
