Frankenthaler Eros1.jpg

Eros
Helen Frankenthaler

If Helen thinks that painting depicts Eros in any way, then Helen needs to work on her love life.

I am sure she had some grand message she thought she conveyed with this absolute mess of a painting. And I am equally sure that the critics gobbled it up, ascribing all sorts of esoteric nonsense to what is an amateurish skill with a brush. No matter how deep and complex the supposed meaning is, if the work is junk, what's the point?

Give me a skillful artist who takes pride in the task over a clown with obvious lack of skill masquerading as a serious artist. The skillful artist produces works that please the eye. The clown produces works that must be deconstructed to reveal...anything!

39 I believe (as I've read a few places) that modern art is at least a partial creation of the CIA to mess with the Russians.

They promoted that hack Pollock and the Russians could not figure out why anyone liked it because their art was so beautiful.

And of course, modern art is used for CIA money laundering.

This piece is utter crap.

122 The....*art?*...

That purplish square looks like a smudged lipstick kiss.
There's a face at the bottom, looking up.
Eros being all about sex and desire, I suppose one could consider this a "portrait" of sorts, a depiction of desire.
That would explain the "kiss" and the face.
That curved, folded edge could be explained by any bodice ripping romance novel which always have a line such as "the sharp edge of desire soften, curling through her blood and body as she arched toward his heat."

Verdict...
It's fucking ugly.

146 I like the color palette she uses here. I would need to see it IRL to deliver final verdict though.

I think people are getting hung up on the word she used for title. Sometimes an artist srtarts with the title, and paints what they think matches it. Sometimes they complete a work, take a step back, and ask themselves: ‘what am I going to call this thing?’
A word pops into their head and that’s what they roll with.
Sometimes they are just messing with you.

205 The Left can't meme, real world, part #934.

The DNC trolled President Donald Trump by flying a banner that read “Welcome to Qatar-a-Lago” over Mar-a-Lago Wednesday. DNC Chair Ken Martin said that Trump is “using the presidency to personally enrich himself while he bankrupts working families...His corruption is a slap in the face to the millions of Americans who are struggling to get by and put food on the table,”

He added: “Today, the DNC is highlighting what foreign autocracies around the world already know: Trump has no loyalty to the American people, national security, or the Constitution – his only allegiance is to his bank account and his billionaire buddies.”

Even Ted Cruz, usually a staunch supporter of Trump, joined a number of his Republican colleagues in expressing concern. It just dawned on him that he's Canadian-born, with a Hispanic name, making him more likely to wind up in an El Salvador gulag than most.

Happy Birthday, to me. Smash gave me Nordic war hammer. It has a nice pointy spike and a four knobbed hammer head on an 18" hardwood handle sheathed with stainless steel straps. I asked where she got it and she said she went to Kult of Athena which is where I got my 1865 Cavalry Saber.

Americans, and the governments they elect, DJT notwithstanding, are extremely hostile to business, and wish to punish business with excessive regulation and taxes on the state and local level. These are costs that factor into production and are passed on to the consumer.

And you say there should be no price increases on American made goods. There will be. And the Bucks of this world will insist you MUST pay them with a big smile on your face as your patriotic duty.

277 Trump signed EO with the intent of reducing federal crimes that could result in jail time. It's an attack on the 'unknowingly commit 3 crimes before breakfast' executive branch in decades of rule making. Bravo.

From insty -

A few bullet points:

What does this do? The most important part is that every agency has 365 days to list out all the regulations that have a criminal penalty and then that report has to be made public.
All future regs have to state criminal offenses clearly. Mens rea is back on the menu! The default will be to require mens rea.
This EO is tremendously important and will have direct, and hopefully immediate, affect on more or less everyone in America. And did you hear anything about it? Anything at all?
