Had a customer schedule a Team meeting with me last week. Team wouldn't start because Team wouldn't update.

Had to forego video and call in instead.

Had to subsequently delete Team, download and reinstall.

This is why I personally almost always use Zoom.

The ministry warned to avoid exposure to heat and sun, especially for the elderly and those suffering of chronic illnesses.

In addition, it called to avoid unnecessary physical exertion both indoors and outdoors.

20 Evening for Sunday toilers, morning for early risers and insomaniacals!

It's an amazing 63 F. with high humidity but little wind. This looks to be the last few days of tolerable daytime temps; we'll see 90 by Thurs. or Fri.

The "Champagne Stroll" uptown last night went okay, I guess. It did have the advantage of being free, including my parking two blocks off the main avenue. There were so many people choking the sidewalks, I have to wonder where they all put their cars (though no doubt many live uptown). The only thing worse than walking through the crowds would be trying to drive through them.

22 Well, I do have to say that the idea that "Pride and Prejudice" is only popular because of DEI and not because Austen was a very fine writer certainly gave me a laugh. You don't have to read the book or even like it to realize that that particular opinion may not be shared by others.

23 Grit will have Rio Bravo, the John Wayne flick with Dean Martin, Walter Brennan, and Angie Dickinson, at 5 am Central. It's not a John Wayne day today, however; several George Montgomery movies follow, then the 2007 3:10 to Yuma with Christian Bale and Russell Crowe is up.

I may watch a 1950s B & W from YooToob this afternoon, though.

I've tried several times to get into Austen's actual work. One of my favorite authors, Rex Stout, loved her stuff and said that Pride is the book he'd most like to have written, or words to that effect. But her prose is rather dense by today's Hemingway-esque standards. Still, her portraits of human nature are still being trumpeted and turned into popular adaptations, so clearly she has something timeless about her novels.

Yes, that's true. I understand many men do not like books with women as the central character or books that deal with the issue of women finding a mate, but whoever on that thread said Patrick O'Brian " by probably Austen was influenced was probably correct . I enjoy both of their novels.

38 My Synology NAS came with 4 GB of RAM and would regularly bomb out because, well because. Actually it may have more to do with I'm running a Plex server on it so I can stream my movie catalog around the house and stream my lossless audio catalog to my cell phone which is rather useful when driving down the road. Or there might be a memory leak somewhere in the Plex code.

To upgrade using Synology branded RAM they want $325 for 16 GB or $650 if you fill both slots. Yikes. That's a hard pass. I was able to find on Amazon the same modules. Total price for two was $78. That should keep the NAS happy.

45 What the hell Microsoft? When they added folders to the W11 Start Menu and allowed the Recommended section to be shrunk to one line I had everything I needed.

I also don't need my cell phone showing up on the Start Menu. I don't get Microsoft's fetish about linking your phone to the desktop. I tried the phone link for a while and found it redundant to useless. Should I pick up my phone when I want to use it or or should I go fuss around with the computer to use my phone? Yeah, it's not a hard choice. Hopefully this computing advancement can be shut off.

And automatic categories? Can I nuke them? I have a pretty robust approach to setting up my computers and all this convenience just gets in the way. This reeks of gratuitous AI usage.

I guess I will be figuring out workarounds in a few months.

Rex Stout mentions John Gunther in his Nero Wolfe books a few times, a totally forgotten popular American author. He also mentions Silent Spring.

But you know that. Hah.

There's an excellent biography of Pearl Buck by Hilary Spurling that covers Bucks life from childhood to her mid thirties. She literally grew up Chinese and only much later was Americanized and co-opted by the left.

And now he is at the back door trying to convince me he does have to go out again. While everyone else sleeps because it’s 639. Happy Mother’s Day horde mamas! 😂

Do we have any Horde members in the St. Louis area who might be able to be a sort of "liaison" for his family members and/or visit him at the hospital so that he is not completely alone during his stay while there?

I don't know which hospital, but I am sure that his daughter will be giving us updates, so we can ask her when she comes back on. It sounds like he will be there long enough to receive cards, as well, so maybe his daughter will be willing to share his contact information, too.

I have a nephew and niece that were born a month apart. When they were toddlers, she'd tackle him and roughhouse while he would just stoically take it. Now they're highschoolers, he's a wrestler and in football, and he just picks her up while hugging her. The more I think about this, the less accidental it seems. This is color revolution tactics. They are deliberately using minority members of Congress as a vehicle to normalize political violence. I am on travel today, but I will be running this through the NED journals to try and piece together the strategy.

My advice to the Trump team: call it out strongly. Name it for what it is. A coordinated attempt at a color revolution with the end goal of a coup.

129 Archaeologists in London made a remarkable discovery: a 2,000-year-old cosmetic face cream dating back to Roman times — believed to be the oldest known example of its kind. Found at a Roman temple site near the Thames, the small sealed tin pot still contained a white, ointment-like substance.

What makes the find even more extraordinary is the presence of visible finger marks preserved in the lid, offering a deeply human connection to the ancient past.

Chemical analysis revealed ingredients such as animal fat, starch, and tin.

142 Fortunately the color revolution tactics are getting old and failing. The Biden admin tried it at least 3 times against Netanyahu last year and each failed.
They ran it against Trump in 2020 but only won because of massive fraud. Tried in 24 but obviously that failed, too.
I strongly suspect it only works when there is massive discontent with the ruling powers already in place. And by massive I mean a supermajority.

Just a thought: I'm watching Rio Bravo, and there is a scene late in the film where Dude (Dean Martin), Colorado (Rick Nelson), Stumpy (Walter Brennan), and Chance (John Wayne) are sitting in the jail office. Dude begins to sing, and Colorado joins in on his guitar, then sings another tune with Stumpy. Cynically, you'd think they put this scene in for the audience because Martin and Nelson were both known as singers. But the scene works. Four men, under siege and stress, relaxing, singing tunes that fit the time period, Wayne's Chance just watching and enjoying. Good stuff.
