Sefton: sefton at cutjibnewsletter.com | THE MORNING RANT: Brian Kemp’s Presidential Ambitions May Have Saved Us from Another Senator Tillis/Cassidy/Murkowski/Cornyn
To my ever-lasting shame and disgrace, I voted for John Cornyn in the 2002 Texas Republican primary, because he was the “moderate” and “electable” Republican most likely to beat “popular” Dallas Mayor Ron Kirk in the general election. Cornyn won alright, and he has been stabbing conservatives in the back for 23 years, and now he is running for another 6-year term in 2026. Even worse, while living in Louisiana in 2014, I voted for Bill Cassidy in the US Senate race, since he was the most “electable” Republican candidate running against the “moderate” and “popular” three-term incumbent, Mary Landrieu. Not only has Bill Cassidy been hostile to the MAGA agenda, he actually joined Senate Democrats in voting to convict President Trump in the farcical impeachment trial in early 2021. As a final insult, whenever any of these anti-MAGA Republican Senators are in their final term, they gleefully do a shoot-the-finger farewell tour. Mitch McConnell is doing that right now by consistently voting against Trump nominations and consistently voting with the Democrat minority. Mitt Romney and John McCain also showed us the damage that petty, vindictive, grudge-holders can do once they’re in their final terms. If these political turncoats hadn’t been elected to a first term then they’d never have gotten a final term in which to settle scores and to dishonorably betray their voters. No more Cornyns. No more Cassidys. No more Romneys. No more Lankfords. No More Murkowskis. I could not be more relieved that I don’t have to worry about a Senator Kemp trying to sabotage President Trump. Of course, the reason Brian Kemp is not running for U.S. Senate is that when he looks in the mirror, he sees a future President. I’ve got a suggestion for his campaign theme: ”A Chicken in Every Pot, and a Rivian in Every Garage”
Voters can never be allowed to forget that Brian Kemp allied himself with eco-globalists in trying to kill off internal combustion vehicles, and he then embraced corporate communism by dishing out billions of Georgia taxpayer dollars to EV-related startups. May his presidential campaign be as successful as his forays into venture communism. A coalition of America Only and America First voters has the power to compel the Republican establishment and swing-district Democrats to understand that America First is the compromise position, and if they refuse, then they get nothing on their global wish list. It’s behind a paywall, but if you’re a subscriber to The Blaze, I’d be honored if you’d give it a read. I’d rather Jon Ossoff take up a Democrat committee seat on a Republican-controlled committee than have a Brian Kemp take a Republican committee seat and then use it to flip the committee to advance the Democrats’ agenda.

I get all the arguments about not electing the odious Brian Kemp. It's a shame that NC can't do better. Still, I'd probably choose him over Ossoff. I prioritize today and the near future over what might be in 20 years. We have a window now with Trump, and I'll accept some less than ideal people in order to move his agenda forward.

1) The left has a full activist structure that most of their candidate go through where they are forced to wholly commit to the cause at lower levels. Republicans usually just show up because they got famous or are rich. 2) Fail as a Democrat candidate and you go right back into the NGO structure. Fails as a RINO and you get to go back to the smaller RINO NGO structure. Fail as a MAGA type? Posted by: Sebastian Melmoth at May 12, 2025 11:31 AM (VofaG) A price control is when the government sets price. "You will sell wheat for $x per bushel." That indeed can produce economic distortions, especially if $x is less than the cost of production. That's not what this is. This says "You can sell zaxafraxazine for any price you want. But it has to be the same price everywhere". Not the same. The drug manufacturer can still set the price at a level that covers costs and a profit. But he can't make Americans pay higher prices while letting the Canucks skate. And as others have noted, they can only get away with this in the first place because they have patents, i.e. a government-granted monopoly. That's about as far from a "free market" as you can get. Medicare/Medicaid, as far as i'm aware, are notorious bastards about *not* paying out. Hospital bills $X for a patient who got treated, and TPTB say "here's 10% of $X. Go away now." And because TPTB are the Ps that B, the hospital is up the proverbial creek. So they have to make up the difference by gouging the people who actually do conscientiously pay their bills, or go out hat in hand to the biggest hospital in the region looking for a "merger" (read: "acquisition") so they don't have to shut the doors altogether. I have to assume pharma goes the same way. The price tag on the bill has precious little to do with what anyone actually pays for anything, unless you're the dumb hump who actually pays one's bills.

Starting with getting some chiropractic work done over 30 years ago, and continuing (and getting more flagrant) since -- I don't understand the acceptance of straight-up insurance fraud.
Owing to (blessedly) being healthy coupled with a refusal to participate in Death care, we have no health insurance coverage. The prices I'm quoted for medical services are often outrageous and assume I'm covered by insurance; when I say I'm not covered, and what is the cash price -- it's usually half or less. Not to mention anecdotal horror stories of friends who rack up tens of thousands of dollars in medical charges because insurance covers most of it -- and apparently it's expected by providers and insurance that people who cannot pay their outrageous medical bills will be compromised with and allowed to eventually pay pennies on the dollar (or file for bankruptcy in the most extreme cases). Posted by: Catch Thirty-Thr33 at May 12, 2025 11:30 AM (gPWpV) I agree with you, this is incontrovertible, but I want to quibble on part of your suppositions. Drug manufacturing and sales in the United States (and world wide) is a cartel, restricted by governmental regulations that aim to restrict market entry, market access and pricing. All cartels aim to provide the least possible value for the greatest profit. Governments like this because regulatory compliance is money going to the Gov, and of course all those not-shady-at-all donations go in the right pockets too. Cartels destroy markets worse than price fixing, the way a slow chronic infection is the worst sort of infection. Wage and price controls will spike problems immediately and will either destroy the regs or cause the government to fall. Cartels just suck you dry and give you crappy service for the rest of your life, and onto the fifth generation if allowed. I think it is a wash, and I care more about possible R&D and market access for startups and compounding pharmacies. Our current senators from Georgia were cheated in in 2022 using the same means that stole the election from Trump in 2020. Example: I went to my regular polling place on Election Day in 2022, only to be informed that I had already voted. I had not. They offered me a provisional ballot. In other words, I was denied the vote. Our current senators are as phony as a $3 bill.
Your take on Kemp is spot on. About the only thing he did right during the COVID op was not declare a state-wide shutdown. Most cities and towns declared shutdowns locally. The county seat, where I worked, declared one and the university where I then taught declared that we not came back from Spring Break, but begin teaching online (online learning doesn’t work - cheating galore - I caught one student, sadly, red-handed, but that’s a story for another time). At least I could go shop, sans mask, at an IGA in a nearer small town that did NOT shutdown (IGA owner said he was fine with me not wearing a mask - it is a lamentable commentary on university life that you still see some professors - especially females of a certain age - still masked up at the reopened groceries in the county seat - sad!). So, on the day that people talk about deregulation of medicine, I'll be much more open to calls of not being pure on free market principles regarding government action towards the industry. Until then, we either use the tools, or they get used against us. And they've been used against us for a long time now. I voted for Trump in 2024 at the County Courthouse Extension on the first day that you could vote early in person - I had to wait in line. When I got my ballot I pulled out an LED flashlight from my pocket to see if they were using the touted special paper made in Canada with the UV watermark to prevent fraudulent copying of ballots. The paper was ordinary bond: no UV watermark. I chided the poll worker about this after I voted: she didn’t know what I was talking about. They tried to pull a late night do-over in a county _adjacent_ to Fulton County that night. Republican lawyers were there to shut them down. They still cheated in places like Wisconsin, and of course, California, but we overwhelmed them in enough places to have our say. Thank God! (By the way, it is illegal to photograph your ballot in Georgia before submitting it to the machine - someone might pay you to vote the way you did - like they don’t anyway - but still some people have done it - the QR code that - supposedly - has all your voting information is _encrypted_ - sure Dominion - pull the other one - it has bells on it!).

TX, UT, AK, MT, LA, OK, SD, ND, KY.... All deep red states with RINO or Dem senators. But they almost all *also* have a solid conservative senator, so it's very possible, just have to fight (state GOPe's) hard for it...
State GOPs are openly at war with DeSantis and Abbott, at least. Probably more from that list. Also, Dems had demonstrations over the weekend with professional pre-printed signs again like USAID was back in business. So either Boasberg won permanently or Soros actually opened his pocketbook. I dunno - I despair of the RINOs, but then I look at their opposition, realize how it could be worse, hold my nose tightly, and then vote for the friggin' turncoat.
I've toyed with voting for the Dem if for no other reason than to turn the danged RINO out of office. But then I see the appalling extent of damage the Dems gleefully wreak upon the foundations of America as Constituted, and I recoil from that....once again voting for a turd-polisher. But I wonder - is Cloward-Piven the way to go? Expedite the collapse of this overgrown fungal obscenity of so-called "government"? Look long term that the only way to clean these Augean Stables is to burn them down and build anew? The idea of individual Rights superior to and outside of any form of government was an astonishing doctrine 250 years ago - but not so now. We've had 250 years to see if and where the anti-Federalists were right, and that better safeguards need to be welded to the next formation of government. And as I read it, there is no intent to impose "price controls" for drugs. Just Trump and RFK jr telling the drug companies. Yeah, if you can make and sell that drug for the 1.59/dose you charge Canada Medicare is not going to pay you 7.79/dose. The only reason companies can get away with charging the U.S. so much extra is because Big Pharma invested so much money buying politicians and bureaucrats like Fauci.
Posted by: PaleRider at May 12, 2025 11:32 AM (bP/i4) == Not exactly. Canada says if you want to sell to us - you will only get paid X. In the US, there are no controls. But if Medicare soon only charges X as well because of best price requirements, soon private insurers will say I won't pay more than 200-300% of medicare. They are paying a bunch more than that today. What will happen? The vaunted socialized health care systems are going to see a dramatic increase in prescription drug prices. Our system is still expensive - the hospitals are a big reason for that - but this will reduce US costs, and increase everyone else's. Posted by: Black JEM at May 12, 2025 12:04 PM (GZYu7) 284

Illegal aliens do not have full due process rights *with respect to their immigration status or deportation*. That is governed by other rules, with its own laws and institutions (such as administrative "immigration courts", which are not judicial). That system has many features that parallel the normal judicial system - appeals, exceptions, ability to make allowance for individual circumstances, all at the discretion of the authorities.
If an illegal alien is charged with a crime, he receives the full normal panoply of due process protections *with respect to his prosecution under those charges*. It's not that complicated. Lankford of course is a bizarre and idiotic creature, yet another head-scratcher as to how he holds any office, much less as a GOP senator from effing OK! It does get somewhat complicated within the illegal alien populace when it comes to removal (deportation). That's what the Alien Enemy Act invocation is all about. Those designated do not get the immigration system route, they are removable ipso facto by membership in the "enemy" designation.
And then you have the (ridiculously abused, of course) mass of aliens who received TPS (temporary protected status) from the vegetable administration (mostly Haitians and Venezuelans). Changing their status and removing them is an administrative decision - OF COURSE currently stymied by a bad faith, illegal, usurping district court injunction. The short story “The Man Without a Country” is fiction of course, but was based in part on a man of Southern sentiment living in the North at the time of the Recent Unpleasantness (I’m being circumspect). Copperheads, I think the monicker was. He, an American citizen, was deported to the Confederacy, which according to Lincoln, didn’t even exist. It was a Civil War, you see, not even a War Between the States. Just rebellious, misguided citizens fighting against their duly elected government. Don’t think being a native born child of native born Americans will protect you from deportation: it didn’t work for him.

For a long time publishing companies would sell college textbooks for $5 in India and $300 in the United States (same book, sometimes the cheap one would be on lower-quality paper or something), and would sue anyone who attempted to import the $5 edition.
In Kirtsaeng vs. John Wiley & Son the Supreme Court said "Nuh-uh", and as a side consequence also upheld the right to sell used textbooks. Posted by: Rodrigo Borgia at May 12, 2025 11:53 AM (W5ArC) For lack of a better term, the college textbook industry is a racket. Posted by: Alberta Oil Peon at May 12, 2025 12:33 PM (4ia/r) 364

- It didn't work for the fictional man in a story about a nation that was two separate countries with two separate sets of laws? You might want to work on that one a bit before you try it again. Completely agree that Kemp is a RINO extraodinairre. He had a commercial in his first governor's run, stating he would use his "big truck" to deport illegal aliens.
Since then, he won't even sign legislation limiting benefits they get in Georgia. Lied to the rubes. It worked. Posted by: Close The Fed at May 12, 2025 12:54 PM (LeNk3) 369

What Georgia did, what Michigan did, what California did-and is still doing is textbook fascism. I do not know why Republicans are afraid of labeling Democrats fascists, especially since it is such a key component of their wheelhouse.
Every new proposal by Democrats involves more Government control of private industry. Every new alternative fails. Health Care became more expensive after Obamacare. Education became more expensive after Government Guaranteed Student Loans. Cars became more expensive after Net-Zero. Gas became more expensive after it was egregiously taxed to steer drivers away from combustion engines. EVs were burnt and destroyed to punish drivers. Mandated vaccines ended up killing people. Yet still, Republicans are afraid to call Democrats "Fascists". True, Democrats would prefer to call be called Marxists. In fact, to a Democrat, being called a Marxist is not an insult, it is street cred. Posted by: wferrin at May 12, 2025 02:06 PM (DMOpA) 371

Governor Kemp has done a stellar job for Georgia. In 2023, with an 11bn surplus in the state budget, he gave all first responders and educators nice bonuses. For 2024 with 16bn +/- in the budget, he is giving all eligible Georgia citizens $250.00-500.00 cash rebate. He handled the covid pandemic well and stood his ground against both the CDC and Trump during that time. He did not jump down into the mudslinging trench, either. In September 2024, Hurricane Helene wreaked havoc in areas of Georgia, and Trump came to Georgia claiming that Biden refused to speak to Kemp re federal disaster aid for the state. Kemp had no choice but to set the record straight and correct Trump's false claim. Kemp said that Biden did, in fact, accept his phone call, and he and Biden spoke more than once, with Biden assuring fed assistance for Georgia. Kemp said that Biden even gave him his personal cell number should he need it.
With that said, I truly appreciate both President Trump and Governor Kemp. I do wish Trump would have added a suggestion I sent to his campaign in 2024, and that is to nationalize one screw head profile for the entire USA (Torx would be just fine.) Kemp is a RINO loser who has extreme kinky sex with Raffesnperger (German for "Rino jizz") in motels in Alabama across the border....allegedly....
I am with ACE; Kemp would be a long-term delayed fuse bomb with the same charisma as Murkowski the Cocaine Blizzard. There has to be a conservative MAGA candidate who who turn people off like MTG in the state of GA. Hopefully not another non-political pro-athlete past their due date (like Garvey and Herschel Walker). Heck, open a random George phone book and start looking for one. Posted by: Donovan Nuera at May 12, 2025 02:31 PM (LKMDZ) 376
The fact that Kemp almost lost to a morbidly obese Mong spacker lady twice is bad enough...not to mention his purposeful evasion of not canning Fani Willis when her first corruption was made known in that witch trial. Or even wondering if there was any cheating in the 2020 elections. Hopefully won't repeat the debacle with Roy Moore in 2018...and Loeffler (whose hubby, unbeknowst to most Americans, was President of Dow Jones Stock Exchange and fought to blacklist a CCP company that Trump wanted blacklisted. She only wore a red hat (not a real MAGA hat) on campaign stops. Then she flip flopped on J6 about protesting election results. Perdue was a dud. Where is a normal MAGA candidate who can retort on his or her feet during a debate and persuade people?

27 I think any conservative could sweep Georgia if the election is fair.
Until then kiss it goodbye. A lib will win by a margin just outside automatic recount in after election day vote counting of mail in and provisional ballots with the republican winning ON election day but eventualy loosing. It's easily predictable now. Posted by: Reforger at May 12, 2025 11:12 AM (xcIvR) IIRC, Kemp pretty much installed the election fraud system, and wouldn't lift a finger regarding the obvious cheating in 2020 and since. Yeah, he belongs in jail, not the US Senate (although many other Senators undoubtedly also belong in jail).
