The Morning Report — 5/ 8 /25

TillisTurd.jpg

Good morning kids. Today marks the 80th anniversary of VE Day. That's Victory in Europe Day, as all of us old enough surely know as well as those who escaped the leftist lobotomization of American academia the last couple of decades. It marks the final defeat of Nazi Germany and the liberation of Europe. Considering the state of European society these days, with the malign influence of globalism, communism/socialism and a resurgent Islam, the continent may yet, as Churchill warned on the eve of the Battle of Britain descend into a new dark age. Meanwhile, events on the Indian subcontinent as well as in the middle East have the potential to spark a long-feared third world war that, 80 years ago our victory and subsequent ascendancy in geopolitics was hoped would avert.

Were it not for the wonderful GIs, especially of the 11th armored division who liberated my mother and family, I quite likely would not be here today. So God bless you all.

Moving along, it's a pretty mixed bag of news this morning, with some bright spots here and there. Well, the college of Cardinals did not elect a successor to Pope Fiction Francis. It would be a relief if the next Pope would not be a Peronist Jesuit and Islam-appeaser and once again be a real defender of the faith and with it a defender of Western values and civilization. Perhaps the cardinal from Nigeria or one of the other Africans whose flocks are being decimated by the aforementioned resurgent Islam running wild throughout Africa.

The conclave to select a successor to Pope Francis began earlier in the day, with 135 cardinal-electors from around the world now sequestered inside Vatican City. The cardinals are expected to hold up to four votes per day until a new pope is chosen. The cardinals will vote again on Thursday morning at 9:30 am local time.

The electors are residing at Casa Santa Marta and will continue moving between their lodgings and the Sistine Chapel for the duration of the conclave. The group is composed of 53 cardinals from Europe, 23 from Asia, 18 from Africa, 17 from South America, 16 from North America, and four each from Central America and Oceania.

And despite DEI and whatever other corrosive insanity our military has had to endure especially since the ObamaBiden era, we still managed this.

Five top aides of Venezuelan opposition leader María Corina Machado escaped the country after the US helped them foil a siege of the Argentine Embassy in Caracas where they had been holed up for 15 months.

The group is now on US soil after a “precise operation” to free them, US Secretary of State Marco Rubio said Tuesday evening in a post on X, without elaborating.

Machado, who has spearheaded the strongest movement to end Nicolás Maduro’s 12-year rule, praised the “impeccable and epic operation for the freedom of five heroes of Venezuela.”

Maduro’s government had placed permanent check points surrounding the embassy, while his security forces took control of a private house neighboring the residence. The timing of the operation is still unclear, but it was announced when Maduro and other senior officials were in Russia to attend a parade to mark the 80th anniversary of the victory over Nazi Germany by the Soviet Union and its allies.

That definition of VE day is by Bloomberg News. Umm, the Soviets were one of the allies, but the effort in the main was spearheaded by the US and Britain. And lest we forget, Hitler would not have started the war had Russia not signed the Molotov Ribbentrop Pact that carved up Poland in September of '39.

Certainly, Russia had the most total casualties of the war of all combatants, but to phrase it the way Bloomberg did is yet another example of the rewriting and bastardization of history.

But I digress. Elsewhere, while Pam Bondi's DOJ is going after drug smugglers and child traffickers, the Deep State is still working behind the scenes to sabotage President Trump.

U.S. intelligence chiefs ordered agencies to tighten surveillance on Greenland, the first tangible step toward President Donald Trump’s oft-stated goal of bringing the Arctic island under American control, sources leaked to The Wall Street Journal.

The directive instructed the Defense Intelligence Agency (DIA), National Security Administration (NSA) and the CIA to identify Greenlandic and Danish figures who might back U.S. objectives and to gauge public sentiment toward American resource extraction, the outlet reported Tuesday. Its emergence triggered immediate pushback from Director of National Intelligence Tulsi Gabbard, who accused unnamed officials of leaking in order to thwart the administration. (RELATED: Trump Pentagon Cans Greenland Colonel Who Subverted JD Vance) . . “The Wall Street Journal should be ashamed of aiding deep state actors who seek to undermine the President by politicizing and leaking classified information,” Gabbard said in a statement to the Journal. “They are breaking the law and undermining our nation’s security and democracy.”

Ashamed? Hell, in their warped minds they are protecting (our precious democracy!) vomit.

And on the latest podcast, we discussed in disgust the duplicity and treachery of scum like Tom Tillis and the Grifting Oleaginous Parasite party GOP in opposing Ed Martin's nomination as a prosecutor.

And that is just one example. But look at what the GOP is up to in both Idaho

and Florida. With bastions of conservatism like those two the Democrats are finished! Pfft.

And of course the beaks of the usual suspects must remain wet, despite what we want, right?! Preserve protect and defend the grift. So what if Democrats destroy the Republic so long as the RINOs can make a buck off of it.

In early 2025, House Republican leaders tentatively planned to vote on a rescissions package proposed by President Donald Trump during the week of May 5, 2025. The package, expected to be sent to Congress in April 2025, aimed to cancel $9.3 billion in previously approved funding, primarily targeting foreign aid programs, the State Department, and public broadcasting entities like PBS and NPR. The rescissions process, governed by the Impoundment Control Act of 1974, allows the President to propose canceling appropriated funds, which Congress must approve within 45 days of continuous session via a simple majority vote in both chambers. This fast-tracked procedure was seen as a way to formalize spending cuts, particularly those pushed by the Trump administration’s Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE), led by Elon Musk, while avoiding legal challenges to unilateral executive action . .

. . . White House Hesitation and Strategic Shifts: Despite initial Republican enthusiasm for a rescissions package to legitimize DOGE’s spending cuts, the White House appeared unhurried to send the proposal to Congress. Reports indicated that the administration was not fully committed to the rescissions process, possibly due to the political risks and the complexity of navigating GOP divisions. Instead, the administration focused on using the budget reconciliation process to achieve broader fiscal goals, such as increasing defense spending and extending tax cuts, which required only a simple majority and faced fewer procedural hurdles. This strategic pivot likely reduced the urgency of pursuing rescissions . . .

. . . In summary, while a rescissions vote was scheduled for early May 2025, it did not happen due to a combination of political opposition, historical caution from a failed 2018 attempt, White House reluctance, legal and public backlash against DOGE’s cuts, and competing legislative priorities. Posts on X also noted significant Republican discontent with the proposed cuts, suggesting that the package “ran into a buzzsaw of opposition” from both House and Senate Republicans, further undermining its chances.

While I applaud Anna Paulina Luna taking a shot at trying to repeal the Patriot Act, Snowball's Chance in Hell comes to mind.

And illegal alien *Muslims* are beating Jews to death in their own homes while Antifa and Tranny Psychos are assaulting normal people with feces and fists. Meh, just more defenders of "our precious democracy" being precious.

*UPDATE: Considering the wave of antisemitic attacks worldwide and here in the USA over these past few years, and that the suspects are from Georgia which is not exactly a philosemitic nation which has a significant Muslim populace, I made the assumption that they were Muslim. And so, perhaps I can be faulted for jumping to the conclusion, but it was not necessarily an unreasonable assumption. So Mea Culpa. JJS

I don't think that's so much an anti-American bastardization of history. Because Maduro and his officials were in Russia, they're simply relating what the Russian viewpoint on WWII was and probably still is. This is a difficult time to make those kinds of decisions because of the wildly inflated new and used car market. You're unlikely to find a decent and even remotely low mileage used car for under $10k nowadays, and trucks will be even worse.

Even if it's a $5000 engine with a 3 year warranty, it might make sense to consider it. Good luck.

From the National WW2 museum:

Assisting the Soviet war effort American Lend-Lease eventually transferred over $11 billion dollars of goods to Soviet Russia—roughly the equivalent of $250 billion today. Those shipments included 400,000 vehicles, 14,000 aircraft, 13,000 tanks, 8,000 tractors, 4.5 million tons of food, and 2.7 million tons of petroleum products, as well as millions of blankets, uniforms, and boots, and 107,000 tons of cotton. While a significant effort on the part of the United States, official Soviet history claims that only 12 percent of airplanes, 10 percent of tanks, and 2 percent of artillery pieces from Lend-Lease were used in the fight. Downplaying the American contributions, Nikolai Voznesky, chairman of Soviet State Planning Committee (Gosplan), reported that Lend-Lease amounted to only 4 percent of Red Army material production. This statement was readily repeated by Soviet apparatchiks during the Cold War despite an unclear definition of just what “material production” they were actually referring to.

Yes the Soviets bore the brunt of the fighting but lend lease didn’t matter is Soviet propaganda

We had someone run into us recently. No big deal, no injuries or anything significant. But I learned a valuable lesson from it and one I'll share with the Horde-

We don't live in the America we grew up in. If you have to deal with someone elses insurance company, don't. Call your insurance company and have them handle it all. It's what you pay them for, and the other insurance company is going to do their best to cheat you out of as little as ten bucks if they can. And they can.

Let your guys handle it all.

Agreed. I can handle the expense although I'll be doing my damnedest to pay it off in three years. The big hurdle I have is my job. My daily commute is 100 miles total and that adds up after a while. If I had to guess, I'd say at least 300,000. It got to the point her old mechanic was the only one working on it because the parts he needed required machining skills.

And it absolutely broke her heart when she had to have it scrapped.

It's no longer true, sadly. Trucks especially. Having to chase constant absurd EPA standards has ruined them, and engines aren't making it past the warranty period. Honda is similar, with cars shutting off or refusing to crank apparently from the auto stop/start feature that saves 0.000003 gallons of gas over the life of the vehicle.

The problem with Toyotas is they are highly sought after vehicles new or used and thus their prices are often inflated, but you really can't go wrong buying a Honda, Toyota or Subaru new or used.

Subaru in particular has held the line on pricing and jacked up msrp the least of the automanufactuers over the last 5 years, Jeep by contrast has hiked their prices in the neighborhood of 60pct over the last five years.

The car manufacturers are fronts for the lending companies, and somewhere around COVID they cracked the code. Prices went up like crazy because of "shortages", and they never went down. People paid the prices and now accept that car costs and payments are roughly equal to mortgages.

I'm hoping once all the illegals are driven out of the country we can start seeing reasonable used car prices again since they won't be competing with Americans for them.

148 Certainly, Russia had the most total casualties of the war of all combatants, but to phrase it the way Bloomberg did is yet another example of the rewriting and bastardization of history.

This area gets a bit complex.

The Soviets were ALLIED to the NAZIs at the start of the war - that's how they invaded Poland together. The Soviets wanted to extend this alliance and the Germans did not since the latter was planning on sneak attacking the Soviets anyway.

The USSR lost so many men because Stalin managed the war and its preparation so poorly. Fortunately for him once the US entered the war it supplied a ridiculous number of supplies so the Soviets could draft much more of their male population then other countries could - for much of the war the Soviets had more soldiers on the front then the Axis powers even though the Axis powers had more people to in theory draft.

So both the Soviets and the US were critical to defeating the National Socialists and honestly absent a communist Russia there isn't even a WWII because the Germans are too worried about re-running WWI.

If the will of the voters seeks to limit the power of these institutions in any way, because they are seen as ineffective, corrupt or simply that we can no longer afford to fund them, this is called an "attack on Democracy" by the people whose lives, careers and fortunes depend on these institutions.

Heh......

Part of the initial revulsion for the Aztek was that customers in the early 2000s were mostly interested in full-sized SUVs or economical sedans, and the Aztek landed squarely in between those two extremes. A design-by-committee approach was meant to incorporate elements of the Chevy Blazer and Camaro with the upright stance of a minivan, and resulted in an ugly form. Despite that, design elements like plastic body armor and a front end that resembles the face of a "Star Wars" character have become the standard on modern crossovers. The Aztek also had a customizable digital dashboard and head-up display long before those features were commonplace.

The much-maligned Aztek got a boost when "Breaking Bad" creator Vince Gilligan assigned one to schoolteacher-turned methamphetamine kingpin Walter White (Bryan Cranston), and Edmunds ranked it among the 10 most popular vehicles for millennials during the show's last few seasons.

171 I am trying to figure out what the process will be with the inevitable collapse of "the full faith and credit of the US."

In the 90's the Russian Ruble collapsed, yet Russia continued to exist as a functioning society. People went to work, stuff got done. So who survived? The elderly pensioners got destroyed, I realize, but a regular schmoe with a job probably just soldiered on with his "new" ruble salary.

Will we slowly devalue the dollar thru printing or just say 100 to 1 happens today...surprise!

I own my house "free and clear" notwithstanding property taxes, so that's a "real" asset. I guess the lenders and the banks will be destroyed, and the pensioners.

I know this will seem strange for a Christian to say, but I believe all human beings are made in the image of God.

Which means I believe even a Muslim has value to the Creator and can be won to the truth of Jesus Christ, just as I was from my decadent secular mindset and lifestyle.

Therefor, I take issue with the constant drum-beat pretext for an all out war in the Middle East which will destroy millions of souls.

Fault me for that, if you like, but I don't hold to the idea that some souls are extra-special to the Lord, and others worthless.

229 Wow. As discussed yesterday, the knives really are out for Fetterman:

AP: Democratic Sen. John Fetterman of Pennsylvania was meeting last week with representatives from a teachers union in his home state when things quickly devolved.

Before long, Fetterman began repeating himself, shouting and questioning why “everybody is mad at me,” “why does everyone hate me, what did I ever do” and slamming his hands on a desk, according to one person who was briefed on what occurred.

As the meeting deteriorated, a staff member moved to end it and ushered the visitors into the hallway, where she broke down crying. The staffer was comforted by the teachers who were themselves rattled by Fetterman’s behavior, according to a second person who was briefed separately on the meeting.

The interaction at Fetterman’s Washington office came the day before New York Magazine published a story in which former staff and political advisers to Fetterman aired concerns about the senator’s mental health.

Something ain't right here. Ultimately I just hope we don't get screwed out of a Dem Senator.

People who know the brand know what a bargain they are. You get seventy percent of the Mercedes/BMW driving experience for fifty percent of the price -- especially when they are used and well cared for.

Alternatively, absent a presidential designation, the first assistant U.S. attorney may assume the position. An acting U.S. attorney would be able to serve for up to 210 days.

>From above: 'Pennsylvania County Sent Voters Wrong Mail Ballots For May Primary'

This f*cking state.

In part, "Election Systems and Software (ES&S), a Nebraska-based voting machine company that also prints ballots, apologized and took responsibility for the blunder, said Beth Hopkins, director of the Lackawanna Department of Elections and Voter Registration, in a statement."

Back in 2019, it was reported by ProPublica, "The Market for Voting Machines Is Broken. This Company Has Thrived in It.'

323 Company Has Thrived in It.' Half the country votes on machines made by ES&S. Many experts and election officials say the manufacturer remains dominant because there’s little government regulation and almost no oversight, by Jessica Huseman Oct. 28, 2019
--
How many years has Pennsylvania had ES&S also print county ballots? How many times have there been errors, distribution & shipping problems, etc. since & including 2019?

From the link, above, about Florida & The Federalist:

“Florida was very atypical for six years, and then now it’s just going right back into typical mode, which is more like a Texas or an Indiana or a Georgia, a red legislature that, ‘We’re going to do everything we can to bring Walmart’s tax rate to the lowest level imaginable’ and then do absolutely nothing to combat things that affect the quality of life for the desiccating middle class,” says Anthony Sabatini, a Republican former state representative who is now a county commissioner outside Orlando."

Wow! Apparently, much like PA but we're not going to fret up here 'cause sooner or later, there'll be legal pot (the union push, baby) to go with Medicaid, a state controlled program. Back to Blue!

324 >Click2Houston com: 'Sen. John Fetterman raises alarms with outburst at meeting with union officials, AP sources say'

(Been wondering why the teachers unions have been so quiet for months. But as every progressive group has its assigned areas of responsibility, they're back!)

In part, "The teachers union encounter adds to the questions being raised about Fetterman's mental health and behavior barely three years after he survived a stroke on the 2022 campaign trail that he said almost killed him. That was followed by a bout with depression that landed him in Walter Reed National Military Medical Center for six weeks, barely a month after he was sworn into the Senate.

The scrutiny also comes at a time when Fetterman, now serving third year of his term, is being criticized by many rank-and-file Democrats in his home state for being willing to cooperate with President Donald Trump, amid Democrats' growing alarm over Trump's actions and agenda."

It's wrong, it's cruel. And where's the damn "Decency" Joey & the other US Democratic politicians preach - especially the washed out blonde women's brigade, US Repres. of SE PA & certain US Senators?

Sorry to nitpick, but if the parade was held in Russia, then the purpose of the parade was to commemorate Russia, and some other stuff. I don't think that was US Journalists editorializing on the importance, or lack thereof, of US contributions in WWII.

Let me tell you a story about the GOP protecting grift and profit regardless of the damage to the Republic.

Illinois elected a Republican Senator. But, not one who was the chosen candidate of the GOP party. No, he was an outsider who put together his own primary race, beat the party's man, and then beat the Dem's man in the general election. Once in office and as per long-standing custom, he recommended a new U.S. Attorney for Northern Illinois. But, again, not a man the local GOP and powers-that-be wanted. Not a local attorney who was well connected to the Illinois Combine. No, he brought in a States Attorney from New York who had spent the last few years throwing Mafiosi in jail.

This gentleman, once confirmed by the Senate, found himself in a target-rich environment and proceeded to throw more than 60 Illinois politicians, lobbyists and others in jail for public corruption. His efforts reached all the way to the top, ending up with putting George Ryan, by then ex-Governor of Illinois, in jail.

The public was thrilled, correctly seeing the elimination of public corruption in high office as a top priority. The Combine, not so much. They couldn't do much about the U.S. Attorney, so they went after the GOP Senator who appointed him. In an election year when the majority in the Senate was at stake, the Illinois GOP put up a candidate against a sitting GOP Senator in the primary, showering their guy with funds and labor while withholding everything from their own actual Senator. Rather than face attacks from his own party and an exhaustion of his own finances, he stood down.

The GOP party man then faced an attack from the Chicago Tribune, who forced open the records from his divorce, which had been sealed. Once it was revealed that one of the reasons for his divorce was that he had taken his wife to a Parisian sex club and paid to watch her get F'd by some stud his goose was cooked, and Illinois lost it's last GOP Senator as the seat switched to Democrat.

How badly did that screw over not just Illinois but the nation? His Democratic opponent was State Senator Barack Obama. But the grift was protected, and that's what mattered to the Illinois State GOP establishmen
