This is Pixyworthy, I believe: Unity is fucking game devs in the ass again
youtu.be/YWvqyVr3FU4 Or, for morons who can read, the reddit post: tinyurl.com/yc6w96w3 To sum up, Unity is spying on developers to see if all the loysences are current. Since individual coders traipse in and out of companies, data can go stale. Unity as usual has the philosophy Fuck You Pay Me. Unity decides how many loysences you use (whether or not they're on staff, or are even using them) and Unity decides how many loysences you own (whatever you've paid). It is also of concern that Unity is counting use by people not involved on this project and billing it to the project. Sounds like double dipping. Never mind the privacy concerns of snooping on people working on Unity Personal (so, what, you can't tweak some function on your spare time without getting dinged?). I didn't get a lot of CDs as a kid so I tended to load up on Greatest Hits collections. The Police was one of mine; I loved the last three songs (before the boring "Don't Stand So Close To Me" remake) which were from that "Synchronicity" album.
I wondered at the time if the band did any of the work or if it was all just Sting. So, later, I picked up "Synchronicity" itself - cassette - and played it in the car. First "Synchronicity" song was good. A couple of mediocre trax. Then... "Mother". What a cringefest that was. Embarrassed me in front of the whole family. I could have let off a lingering eggy fart and it would have gone better. Posted by: gKWVE at May 10, 2025 10:16 PM (gKWVE) Posted by: anchorbabe fashion cop at May 10, 2025 10:16 PM (ufFY8) 32
Evening, Saturday people,
I'm back at last from the "Champagne Stroll" along the lovely (/sarc) uptown avenue. Not bad, for the first ninety minutes. After that it got crowded and dull. I've seen most of these shops, and in many cases the exact same artwork in the galleries, before. I'd have enjoyed the trip better if I'd installed myself with a book and a pipe at the pipe and cigar shop, and let Linda roam. But a woman alone, well, it's not as safe a world as it used to be; so I felt I needed to be along. Svengoolie has been showing 1977's The Kingdom of the Spiders with Bill Shatner. This was two years before he did the first Trek movie, and eight after the TV series had ended. Like Robert Vaughn of the same generation, he kept working; he was a pro. Posted by: Wolfus Aurelius, Dreaming of Elsewhere at May 10, 2025 10:17 PM (omVj0) 33
/anyway, it was clear that Sting was the only lyricist in the band. Everyone else were better off composing music. Copeland has been good at scoring movies.

Well, serious case of garden butt notwithstanding, I believe I have prepared six garden beds and planted the larger of one today.
The war on dandelions continues apace. I hate those bastards. I have been deporting them without mercy or habeus corpus. I am now farming lavender, sage and lemon balm. Also a nice crop of tomatoes, peppers and cukes in the hothouse. The hascaps are leafed out and the bees are attending them nicely. Many of the various raspberries are leafing out, and I cleaned out five beds of strawberries. Now, a cocktail and a visit to the hot tub. Then, leftover tacos from last night. Tomorrow, blueberry bushes and Mass and... I have no idea what else. A lovely sunny weekend in paradise. Posted by: tcn in AK at May 10, 2025 10:21 PM (a4NoL) 40
Hey guys,
Once again, this is Ciampino's daughter who does our cat fund. Just letting you know that Dad is back in the hospital. One of our cats scratched his leg by accident this morning and because of blood thinners, he was bleeding profusely. This of course is not unusual, but the bleeding was the worst I had ever seen. This afternoon he got dizzy and collapsed on my computer table, thankfully into a sitting position. Called my sister at work and the ambulance. Luckily for him that I have respiratory failure and therefore I have oxygen at home. We hooked him up to my O2 machine while waiting for the ambulance. Nurse said he lost 5 units of blood, dehydrated and possible sepsis. He's in critical condition. He is getting blood transfusions, antibiotics, steroids, fluids and breathing treatments. Their ICU is full, so he may be transferred to their sister hospital in another town about 25 miles away. Sorry this was so long. Posted by: Joyenz at May 10, 2025 10:21 PM (sPQoU) 41

Metallica concert generates 1-level earthquake… bfd.
Back in '70, my college roommate and I somehow ended up at a concert in Chicago. The band was Poco (following Neil Young). We were in the upper stratosphere balcony of the Auditorium Theater. In that big, beautiful well-built palace, this was a rickety level that looked like it had been added as an afterthought for the poverty classes. The place was packed, and although the band looked like tiny insects 'way down on the stage, it was loud. The balcony was packed, and the whole crowd started stomping along with the music. My friend and I looked at each other and obviously were thinking the same thing, as we edged to the back of the balcony and stood near the exit door, just in case the whole think should pancake. Guess those kids never heard about not marching in lockstep across a bridge. The balcony did not collapse. Somehow. But kids weren't all overweight in those days… Posted by: mindful webworker - last time I saw Zappa was the same place, different level at May 10, 2025 10:26 PM (b/vRQ) 56

Meanwhile, in Ukraine:
1. The 3 day Victory Day ceasefire held up fairly well, for being unilateral on Russia's part. Still plenty of fighting in numerous sectors, but Ukraine got a break from being pummeled with drones and missiles. 2. The Euroweenies have finished negotiating with themselves, and the US is going to present Russia with a demand for a 30 day ceasefire. The demand will include 22 (!) points, one of which is a solemn pinky swear that Ukraine will not join NATO, for now, maybe. The Russians will get 24 hours to respond, and if they don't, they will get hit with even more economic sanctions, by golly! 3. They say chickens can recognize up tp 100 human faces. I'd guess they recognize other chickens and themselves in a mirror. A few weeks back I got 10 chicks, supposedly pullets. I think one is a 'roo. Greetings Everyone
Checking in late but I don't have a witty excuse. No hiking today as we're experiencing the first real heat wave of the season. Dramatically cooler tomorrow and during the week. Enjoyed the Comments of the Week and remembered reading most of them when posted. I gotta get a hobby. The last Comment of the Week, for some reason, brought to mind the Firth of Fourth. My mind wandered aimlessly on to the Fifth Third Bank, then ran out.

Somehow, it does not surprise me that raimondo sold his soul to Satan. Wait until he finds out that Satan is getting his tender butthole, too.

Ok, new theory:
The space aliens have changed tact and instead of replacing world leaders with lizard people. They are now switching out everyday leftists with lizard people. The fluorescent hair craze is actually a side effect of the disguise process. Posted by: Orson at May 11, 2025 12:20 AM (dIske) 190
So, rainboi, you believe in Satan and you believe we have souls. Flesh that one out for us.

Smoking and semi-formal dress (sport coats) was most common. We would go in with open packs of cigarettes in every pocket. Ask a convict if he wanted a smoke, we'd light up then set the pack on the table. Rinse and repeat. raimondo puts me in mind of Wormwood. A recent graduate of Screwtape's school. Not much native intellect to work with, but he stumbles along anyhow.

Anonymous, I'm not unhappy that we'll get cooler again Monday. As long as not too cool. It's been months since I could burn a cigar late afternoon on the porch and not be freezing by the time I'm done. Since probably last October, in fact. Longest stretch of cool/no warm weather I can ever remember here.
"Here" is a bit south of you, but same weather. Expect to be making my occasional foray to the OC soon for the usual reasons - hockey superstore in Tustin, Hi-Time Wines in Costa Mesa for rum and booze, somewhere in the area for good ramen. Posted by: rhomboid at May 11, 2025 12:22 AM (1m82a) 195

Well, had a good shop day today. Friend came up from Calgary in Triumph Spitfire, and I did a lube and oil change for him. Turned out the filter he'd bought was wrong (thanks, NAPA), but I found an NOS Baldwin filter in my big box of oil filters which fit OK. Shocking, it was.
Then I aired up a bunch of low tires, and got to work making ready install the front subframe, bearing the front axle, engine, and transmission into a Studebaker Zip Van. Took the starter and distributor off the engine to paint them, as they had become weathered. Looks a lot better, now. Also got on the riding mower, and did a few circuits.
