  • Apple is teaming up with Anthropic on a new vibe coding platform. (Bloomberg) (archive site)

Vibe coding is a term where a developer has no idea how to program - let alone build a complete application - and also no idea about the problems inherent in the application domain. So someone trying to launch, say, an app to guide mining of rare earth elements when you not only can't program but also have no idea what an element is.

Apple's own vibe coding platform was quietly scuttled last year when it turned out to be completely worthless, so they're doing it again.

5 Evening and morning to all the Saturday toilers, early risers, and plain ol' insomaniacals! I woke up about thirty minutes ago and have not been able to drift back off. So here I is, with some coffee. I might drink a little pineapple juice to keep from feeling hungry, and if the rain will hold off I might go for a short workout.

HAHAHAHAHA! I kill myself sometimes.

How's ever'body?

"Phantom Zone"! There's a term I haven't heard in ages. I suspect the DC comic writers were influenced by reading about the underworld in Greek mythology.

As an aside, looking up Aeneas of Troy, I see he was a demi-god. His father had a wild night with Aphrodite as the result of a spell put on her by Zeus.

26 The Israel Defense Forces carried out an overnight attack “near the presidential palace in Damascus” on Thursday, the Prime Minister’s Office in Jerusalem said on Friday.

“This is a clear message to the Syrian regime,” Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Defense Minister Israel Katz said in a joint statement, adding, “We will not allow [Syrian regime] forces to move south of Damascus or to pose any danger to the Druze community.”

The strike came a day after Jerusalem warned Damascus that it expected it to prevent sectarian attacks on the country’s Druze community.

In other news, the Las Cruces May Day protest occurred at the same intersection where they always protest and not remarkably the same 100 people were there. It's pretty amusing. When a casual passerby over the years actually starts recognizing the individual protesters It might be a clue that they need to pack it in.

@SecRubio
Germany just gave its spy agency new powers to surveil the opposition. That’s not democracy—it’s tyranny in disguise.

What is truly extremist is not the popular AfD—which took second in the recent election—but rather the establishment’s deadly open border immigration policies that the AfD opposes.

Germany should reverse course.

60 Any Skype users here?
Have you switched to Microsoft Teams?
My two kids, who have cellphones, switched painlessly, phones and Win11 desktops. I have a Win11 laptop and no cellphone - my switcheroo was a bust. We have a family group and it is the most used. The installation of Teams is supposed to bring over all the contacts and messages. In my case it DELETED the famgp from Skype and it never brought it over to Teams. Also Teams does not behave - I have no list of contacts, as an example.
Any similar experiences and/or suggestions? Keep snide remarks to a minimum as I'm quite annoyed at this point.
Anyone use another well behaved messaging application?

No. It was baptism by fire hose.

I seek to avoid going to shows myself, but I know Her Majesty wouldn't be able to do what she's done without me. She can be gone for a weekend, or a week, or (in one case) a month and she knows when she comes home, the dogs here will be taken care of, the house will be at least tidy, the bed will be made with freshly washed sheets, the washer and dryer empty, a pot of soup prepared and the fixings for me to make dinner and her her breakfast will be on hand. There's a little bit to be proud of there.

Eric Schmidt - former CEO of Google - bought Relativity Space to put datacenters into orbit.

On the surface this makes little sense. But if you wanted to preserve certain data, make it hard for authorities to lay hands on the physical storage of it, because you have "reasons," this might be worth looking at.

Back in the day, the borders between West Germany and Soviet controlled nations had a (IIRC) 2KM area which was controlled by their Federal Border Protection forces (Bundesgrenzschutz). We should do that with Mexico and Canada (the latter being expensive due to the border length as well as US bits that aren't connected via land that exist that are subsumed in Canada. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Northwest_Angle and https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Point_Roberts,_Washington as well as some other odd bits that one would tolerate in peace)
