Theologians would say that dogs do not go to heaven because they do not have immortal souls. We have dominion over the beasts of the earth and for them to go to heaven is to make them our equals. But I think we will see them there. Are their beauty, devotion and loyalty, are the things that created a bond, are what they were that made us love them and take care of them to be lost forever or are they to be treasured eternally? They're in heaven, not for them but for us. They are our reward for what we did for them and the love we gave them. Posted by: Hadrian the Seventh at May 01, 2025 07:00 PM (QnmlO) 70

On the question of whether dogs go to heaven. Some theologins may disagree, but for those who put any credence into the prophets of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, who claim to receive ongoing revelation from God, they have been pretty consistent that yes, dogs and other animals go to heaven and in fact will be resurrected and come back with a physical body at some point. That goes clear back to Joseph Smith, who pointed out that John the Revelator saw plenty of beasts in heaven... so why wouldn't dogs or in Joseph's case, his favorite horse, be there? In any event, they have been very plain about it. So that's good news.

109 Smoking has been beneficial to me. A horse in the course of a training session sometimes needs a break. By smoking a cigarette I am not counting minutes to start again. Horses can feel that and a cigarette gives them a total relaxation.
Posted by: Ben Had _______ Couldn't you substitute some other activity for smoking, and they'd pick up on that as well? Don't get me wrong. It's been ten years, and I'd love to start again tomorrow. And I continued dipping Copenhagen for five years after I quit. Posted by: Biff Pocoroba Chain smoker for years here. I switched to vaping maybe 10 years ago and found it cumbersome. Miley, is Miklos really on the banned list?
Posted by: Ben Had -------- Hi, Ben Had... I think it was by mistake What I saw: raindodojerk showed up, and Miklos socked, but didn't add the usual "on tap" but used the identical nick as dodo. And then *shazzam* they were both gone from the ONT. If Miklos was out of line in any way, I did not see it. Posted by: JQ at May 01, 2025 07:28 PM (rdVOm) 120

123 years ago today my maternal grandfather immigrated - legally! - into this country. He returned to Italy in 1911 to marry before returning for good in 1912. His wife (my grandmother) was to emigrate with her son in 1915 but just as she was about to leave Italy entered the war and she didn't make it here until 1919. I’m pretty sure my great great grandfather got here - well let’s just say not through official channels. He was German, and by the time he was 13 he knew he didn’t want to be part of Bismarck’s great new army (which beat recruits mercilessly) so he stowed away in the coal locker of a freighter bound for the Great Lakes, and managed to make his way to Milwaukee. Would love to know the story of how he did that, but he apparently was not a talker.
I do know there was a big wave of German migration at the time. (1870’s - 1880’s) Good thing I got birthright citizenship! Posted by: Tom Servo at May 01, 2025 07:39 PM (3xZyM) 144

He responded with a scathing reply that there had been NO customer service, or even a reply. I had an Amazon package that kept going to KS, then to AZ, then back to KS. I finally asked for a refund. Then it showed up! The seller had put two different shipping labels on it, one to someone in AZ and one to me. That's why it kept bouncing back and forth for two months. Amazon did charge me for it again, when I finally got it.
It's normal for things to sit for a couple of days in Lenexa or Wichita. Would be nice if the post office would just acknowledge that. Posted by: Notsothoreau at May 01, 2025 08:35 PM (cvWHI) 224
