Is the Dream of Blue Texas still alive?

As long as I've been paying attention to politics since the late 2000s, Democrats have dreamed of turning Texas blue.

They have failed every election since.

2008 Presidential election: McCain by 12.
2008 Senate election: Cornyn by 12.
2012 Presidential election: Romney by 16.
2012 Senate election: Cruz by 16.
2014 Senate election: Cornyn by 27.
2016 Presidential election: Trump by 6.
2018 Senate election: Cruz by 2.

Oh, no...maybe it'll finally come true!

2024 Presidential election: Trump by 14.
2024 Senate election: Cruz by 9.

But maybe this time will be different! What if they get the guy who got close to Cruz to face off against either Cornyn or the guy who's most likely going to knock out Cornyn in the primary, Ken Paxton?

Let me say this right now:

I do not think Beto O'Rourke would have any chance against Ken Paxton. Yes, the GOP machine in Texas hates Paxton, but they've heavily weakened themselves in their pursuit to destroy him. There's a reason he's leading early polls (spit) against Cornyn, and it's not because the GOPe in Texas is getting stronger.

Also, Beto is a three time loser at this point (Senate, President, and then Governor). His last effort had him losing by 14 points.

I bet he'd raise plenty of money from Hollywood, though.

Peter Buttplug found out how that works when he moved to MI in part to run for the open Senate seat in 2026. The existing MI Dems drooling for that chance drove poor Petey to change his goal to Prezzie in 2028.

Kamala is facing that issue running for governor in CA. Lots of Dems have been waiting for Gruesome to be term limited out as governor. She is now the outsider in the race. Due to their weird blanket primaries, she might win but there are other Dems that can and will give her a much tougher race for that plum position and several of them are Hispanics that could claim a 'first'.

I've seen some photos of the place. It's mostly empty lots, but there are a number of singlewide and doublewide mobile homes scattered around. It's actually a huge "city" if you look at the layout on Google Earth/Maps. But I think it's mostly empty lots.

The reason Beto's name keeps coming up in Texas is because the Texas Democrat Party is dead, for all intents and purposes. They have no money, they have no prominent state officials in their ranks. The Dems who gain notoriey in DC, like Jasmine Crockett, Queen of the Ghetto, are sad jokes when it comes to state politics.

So whenever a Governor's or Senator's race is on the ballot, the Dem spot is open for anyone who's rich enough to self finance, and dumb enough to throw away a couple hundred million on a vanity project.

There's probably lots of reasons, but for starters:

Texas has a lot of populist sentiment that has (until very recently) not mapped to the GOP all that well.

And a lot of Republicans here are former Democrats (change in parties from
the 90s forward as the Democrats at the national level moved away from the kind of more moderate Democrat that came from places like Texas).

While Beta was barnstorming throughout the state, his campaign signs were popping up on the roadsides like mushrooms, and his campaign ads were all over the radio (and probably TV as well, though I don't really watch broadcast TV anymore), the Cruz campaign seemed determined to simply ignore him for as long as possible until, in the last month or so before the election, they finally woke up and started hitting back.

Acting as though your opponent is of so little threat to you that you don't even need to acknowledge his existence may be a strategy that works in fiction, but in reality, not so much. Cruz didn't make that mistake in 2024, and if Beta runs against Paxton, I guarantee Paxton won't make that mistake either. Beta may be a foppish twit, but he still has Soros and Hollyweird money bankrolling him, and that makes him dangerous.

Politically, yes. I think I'm looking at this culturally, specifically with that JL/AWFL demographic in the major Texas cities. Those girls work hard at being pretty, getting /keeping the richest husband, and making the society pages, and while the Bushes may be sliding politically, they are still (for now at least) a ticket draw for the Cattleman's Ball. I hope it changes - I have friends stuck in that stupid loop and they cannot/will not hear any dissension because it can lose them popularity points. Until something else crops up as the popularity shibboleth.

At a certain age, a lot of people become very resistant to change whether it is politics, money, faith, etc.

A lot of the West's problems stem from that. Times and needs of society change but some people are stuck living in the past. Not the whole group, but enough to create problems for those behind them.

I want to find one who is over the hill, marriage-wise, not a ripe one. She doesn't have to be pretty, and I will cheat on her, with gals from the steno pool.

If need be, I'll get myself fixed, because I'm not going to have kids with her. If it takes 5 years for me to amass my few millions, I'll try to arrange it so the scandal of my leaving has to be covered up by dad.

I may have to arrange it so she takes some shots at me, as I'm driving away. Something like that. Or make her go into a mental institution. I don't want the family to think it was ALL her fault, but I want them to have some doubt.

The deep state is too narcissistic to let a puppet have any power, and the puppets they pick are too narcissistic to actually mentor and nurture worthy successors. And all their young-ish "rock stars," like Beto and AOC, are beginning to age, and look out of touch to the gen z voters.

He's got his share of blind spots but he's probably the best we were going to do at the time. In classic GOP style, there has been zero effort that I can tell to establish a successor. In 2018 in my Houston neighborhood O'Rourke signs were all over the place from about June on, and he had a heavy IM & social media outreach going on. But there was nothing from Cruz whatsoever until about late September.

It seemed Cruz was taking his reelection for granted. Finally, about mid-September, he noticed that his polling was really cratering. Only then did he finally get serious. He eked out 2% when he should have had 15%+. That's how fragile Texas is.

It wasn't that long ago that Texas was a true-blue State. To this day Houston, Dallas, Austin, El Paso and San Antonio are very blue, and those are a big chunk of Texas' population. The Dems' dream of a blue Texas ain't all that far-fetched.
