Sefton: sefton at cutjibnewsletter.com | Is the Dream of Blue Texas still alive? As long as I've been paying attention to politics since the late 2000s, Democrats have dreamed of turning Texas blue. They have failed every election since. 2008 Presidential election: McCain by 12.2008 Senate election: Cornyn by 12. 2012 Presidential election: Romney by 16. 2012 Senate election: Cruz by 16. 2014 Senate election: Cornyn by 27. 2016 Presidential election: Trump by 6. 2018 Senate election: Cruz by 2. Oh, no...maybe it'll finally come true! 2024 Presidential election: Trump by 14. 2024 Senate election: Cruz by 9. But maybe this time will be different! What if they get the guy who got close to Cruz to face off against either Cornyn or the guy who's most likely going to knock out Cornyn in the primary, Ken Paxton? Let me say this right now: I do not think Beto O'Rourke would have any chance against Ken Paxton. Yes, the GOP machine in Texas hates Paxton, but they've heavily weakened themselves in their pursuit to destroy him. There's a reason he's leading early polls (spit) against Cornyn, and it's not because the GOPe in Texas is getting stronger. Also, Beto is a three time loser at this point (Senate, President, and then Governor). His last effort had him losing by 14 points. I bet he'd raise plenty of money from Hollywood, though. Thing thing about good ole Robert Francis O'Rourke is that his father (a politician) gave him the nickname Beto because he had aspirations of his son continuing the political dynasty. And, the O'Rourke's happened to live in an area with a wealth of Latinos. So he gave him a name that would appeal to that faction. Pure opportunistic theater.

Watched a quick gaggle - Trump and the Press. A reporter from Gateway Pundit asked a question - why is the Lame MSM/press hiding mugshots of terrorists kicked out of the country and if the MSM is the enemy of the people. Now, why do I bring it up ? Because Wikipedia is the enemy of the people, and needs to be taken down. Here is its take on GP: "The Gateway Pundit (TGP) is an American far-right[2] fake news website.[1] The website is known for publishing falsehoods, hoaxes, and conspiracy theories.[35]."

"Beta" only came within 2 points of beating Cruz in 2018 because the Cruz campaign made the mistake of not taking Beta seriously. While Beta was barnstorming throughout the state, his campaign signs were popping up on the roadsides like mushrooms, and his campaign ads were all over the radio (and probably TV as well, though I don't really watch broadcast TV anymore), the Cruz campaign seemed determined to simply ignore him for as long as possible until, in the last month or so before the election, they finally woke up and started hitting back.
Acting as though your opponent is of so little threat to you that you don't even need to acknowledge his existence may be a strategy that works in fiction, but in reality, not so much. Cruz didn't make that mistake in 2024, and if Beta runs against Paxton, I guarantee Paxton won't make that mistake either. Beta may be a foppish twit, but he still has Soros and Hollyweird money bankrolling him, and that makes him dangerous. Posted by: The Nth Doctor at April 29, 2025 03:42 PM (vWw36) 192

241 Every Canadian below the age of 60 said their number one issue was lowering the cost of living.
The 60+ crowd's number one issue was "dealing with Donald Trump." Damn, the Canadian boomers are dumb as hell. Trump mind-screwed them by talking about making Canada the 51st state. http://tiny.cc/iv5i001 Posted by: bonhomme ---- You see some of the same behavior in the US regarding work, housing, cost of living, and political attitudes. And that is in both US parties. For some of the Dems, it is always Selma in the 50's, and for some on the Right, it is always the Cold War and tariffs. The liberal white women cannot lust enough after Beto, married or single, and they are a huge voting bloc, so running lets them stroke his ego, which he clearly craves. Plus he has to prove to his rich daddy-in-law that he isn't a waste of air, and that his daughter didn't pick a loser.
So he'll happily grift off of rich Hollywood. But yeah, it's a waste of their money. Posted by: LizLem at April 29, 2025 04:02 PM (gWBY1) 268

I'd prefer a gal whose dad is a 900 millionaire. He's still hungry, he hasn't gotten over the B line yet, so I'll sign a prenup, he'll give me a job, I'll either embezzle funds from his businesses, or follow his crooked investment holdings. Then when I divorce his kid, I'll be worth a few million.
That's enough for me. They'll be happy to be rid of this "loser," and I'll live on a beach somewhere, sipping drinks with fruit in it, and picking up lonely matrons and/or island girls. Posted by: Hadrian the Seventh at April 29, 2025 03:49 PM (QnmlO) American Boomers too. What's especially fascinating to watch is their general refusal to acknowledge that the economy has changed, buying power has changed, education and living expenses have changed. Making $2 an hour at the soda fountain part time doesn't get you an apartment, car, groceries, and college tuition anymore. As though admitting these things would personally demean them somehow. >>> We have been lucky our Marxists haven't found a strong man to take over. The Deep State picked a Puppet to run all over.
The deep state is too narcissistic to let a puppet have any power, and the puppets they pick are too narcissistic to actually mentor and nurture worthy successors. And all their young-ish "rock stars," like Beto and AOC, are beginning to age, and look out of touch to the gen z voters. I'm ok with them flailing right now. I do worry that in the future, the liberal power vacuum suck will mean some dumb flaming Marxist accidentally gets into the spotlight. And then if the republicans have a period of malaise and cowardice (like always, but worse), so the Trump friendly voters move on from the party, that dumb Marxist will get into power. But it's a waste of my energy to worry about that right now. Posted by: LizLem at April 29, 2025 04:08 PM (gWBY1) 280

He's got his share of blind spots but he's probably the best we were going to do at the time. In classic GOP style, there has been zero effort that I can tell to establish a successor. 2018 Senate election: Cruz by 2
In 2018 in my Houston neighborhood O'Rourke signs were all over the place from about June on, and he had a heavy IM & social media outreach going on. But there was nothing from Cruz whatsoever until about late September. It seemed Cruz was taking his reelection for granted. Finally, about mid-September, he noticed that his polling was really cratering. Only then did he finally get serious. He eked out 2% when he should have had 15%+. That's how fragile Texas is. It wasn't that long ago that Texas was a true-blue State. To this day Houston, Dallas, Austin, El Paso and San Antonio are very blue, and those are a big chunk of Texas' population. The Dems' dream of a blue Texas ain't all that far-fetched. Posted by: LCMS Rulz! at April 29, 2025 05:37 PM (bufu1) 288
