23 From the MET

The silvery, cool tonality may have been influenced by Corot’s study of the contemporary medium of photography. The blurred appearance of the trees in the foreground, for example, is similar to the effect of foliage in motion as captured in nineteenth-century photographs.

32 Having forsaken any long-term relationships with women, Corot remained very close to his parents even in his fifties. A contemporary said of him, "Corot is a man of principle, unconsciously Christian; he surrenders all his freedom to his mother...he has to beg her repeatedly to get permission to go out...for dinner every other Friday." Apart from his frequent travels, Corot remained closely tethered to his family until his parents died, then at last he gained the freedom to go as he pleased.

46 This is one of those paintings that always amazes me. When you look at it, it is what it is - a picture of a woman gathering wood.

But embiggen it and you can see how Corot manages to create the texture of leaves, clouds and grass with only random smudges of color. Utterly fascinating and utterly beyond my talent.

I believe the original meaning of 'fagot' or 'faggot' in German and English was 'stick' or 'rod'. Bassoons and cigarettes are both shaped like sticks. A guy who's always thinking about his and other guys' rods would naturally be called 'Rod' or a 'rod'. How it came to mean a whole bundle of sticks I do not know, but it's still stick-related.

101 Wood is a renewable energy source.

Have any of you ever looked into what it takes to convert an engine to run on wood gas?
There's a whole manual published by the US gov on how to do it.
It's pretty simple and kinda cool.

Best discussion I ever saw on "how to store green energy" was some folks spitballing, "what if we used a giant flywheel?"
After discussing practicalities; in a vacuum, braided steel cables vs. solid steel to withstand the forces, etc., it devolved into amusing discussions of the destruction unleashed should it fail; e.g., a 5-ton flywheel spinning at 100mph in your basement coming loose.

LOL, can you imagine?
A barrel of gasoline would be many times safer.

104 Yay California!

State Assemblywoman Maggy Krell, a Democrat, agreed to remove a clause from Assembly Bill 379 that states buyers of 16 and 17-year-olds for sex would face felony charges, leaving the solicitation of those minors by adults to be treated as a misdemeanor.
"In order to get a hearing on the bill, we were forced to remove the piece of the bill that ensures the crime of purchasing a minor for sex applies in all cases where the victim is under the age of 18," Krell told Fox News Digital.

The bill came together after older teens were left out of a state law that went into effect this year that makes it a felony to purchase a child, ages 15 and younger for sex. Last year, California State Sen. Shannon Grove authored a bill that made it illegal to buy minors for sex, but it excluded 16 and 17 year-olds.

State Rep. David Tangipa, a Republican, said the move was a way to kill a bill that lawmakers don't want to be heard. If Krell didn't want to accept the amendment, then the committee chair, Rep. Nick Schultz, would have discretion over whether the legislation should be heard, Tangipa said.

105 "Apparently, what they want to do is remove the 16 and 17-year-old portion of the bill and then just increase penalties and fines," Tangipa, who has a relative who was previously trafficked, told Fox News Digital. "What that actually sounds like is just California participating in the prostitution and the trafficking themselves."

113 State Assemblywoman Maggy Krell, a Democrat, agreed to remove a clause from Assembly Bill 379 that states buyers of 16 and 17-year-olds for sex would face felony charges, leaving the solicitation of those minors by adults to be treated as a misdemeanor.

So before this, it's been legal to buy children for sex in California? Unfricking believable.

121 Another fun storage idea is for those giant mirror farms like they have outside Vegas (Spain also has several; if you're wondering how their grid failed).

The idea is to use molten salt with the excess heat in the day heating it to like 500 F.
Calculated to add 4-8 additional hours to production at night (these plants work on heating water to like 300 F, just like coal/natural gas).

Anyway, that also fails as the whole system is ruined beyond repair if the salt "freezes." And it has to be constantly circulated.
So, gas or oil heat has to be on-hand, scuttling their green rating.

FWIW, I'm a member of Amazon Vine. In a nutshell, Amazon and their vendors provide us with products that we review. I've been a member since 2009.

Anyway, the products we were offered used to be normal products from mainstream vendors. Taking a look at the offerings right now there are vendors named ANTIEE, DTTO, VEDURME, YNXGZCAN, and I swear to God...MORESUPERHARD. Tends to be things like aftermarket car parts, replacement laptop batteries, clothing, etc.

Every so often there are still mainstream products offered which I grab if I can use them. Still have to sort through the chaff like umbrella base stand plug hole covers made by GHAMYEE.

For one thing the fentanyl and illegals pouring over the northern border will continue unchecked with liberals. Conservatives would probably have worked with Trump to slow it down.

Canada will also become more of China’s bitch. Which is not good for us.

278 I ordered a book last week that was located in central TX to be shipped to a Dallas address by USPS.

Here it is, a week later, and they told me it is finally in the mail distribution center.

The USPS folks suck.

Or was that holding it down. And choking it.

Right? I had some IDE to SATA SSD daughterboard shipped direct from China, and it was quicker than this, and that was about 15 years ago.

That’s how we know the “100 mpg Carburetor” on a V8 was nonsense.

If it could be done, it would have been done during WWII. Everybody tried - Germans, Russians, Japanese, Americans, British, everybody. They all had very good engineers. If it were possible, they would have done it.

The only reason pork rectums are boneless is they're pork, and therefore haram.

I have a package coming that's gone from distribution center A to distribution center B two times. Now it's gone to three other relay centers and not left the state of origin. Only five states to go.

299 Nonna?

My grandmother actually sustained her family by going up the mountain to gather kindling. When she returned to the village she bartered the faggots for essential items like flour and chickens

That’s why they came here., she was tired of trudging up a mountain, then back down, toting a bundle of sticks.
