Gerry Connolly, top Democrat on the Oversight Committee and Rep since the Dawn of Time, to step down at the end of this Congress

Rep. Gerry Connolly, the top Democrat on the House Oversight and Government Reform Committee, will step down from his leadership post on the panel and not run for reelection.
The Virginia Democrat, whose constituency includes many federal workers, cited the return of his esophageal cancer - first diagnosed in late 2024 - as the reason for his planned departure.

VA-11, his district, is very heavily Democrat, so don't expect a pickup. Do expect, however, a Resistance idol to take the primary and the seat next Congress. Someone young, dumb, and full of...ideas about how Trump needs to be impeached for the good of illegal immigrant gangbangers.

Did some research this weekend and found out the longest Conclave was 33 months, dating back to 1281. The Dean running the Conclave at one point restricted the cardinals diet to just bread and water and also had the roof removed! (this was pre-sistine chapel).

Finally, three of the 26 Cardinals died during the Conclave.

I think 2010 convinced the Democrat Party to implement Chicago style election controls on a national scale as much as possible. Cheating was always a thing and pretty widespread, but the effort started to make sure that Democrats never lost to the limits of how far the GOP would let them go, testing those limits as far as possible.

And the GOP didn't fucking care. I'm convinced 2012 was stolen. FL, MI, and NV count enough for the loss. FL was definitely stolen out of Broward County. MI's been letting Detroit invent numbers for decades. NV, union state, was probably not that hard to rig for a long time.

They just went Leroy Jenkins, and it explains how the GOP cannot have a good midterm no matter what. The best GOP midterms are muted affairs.

I think this is overselling it a bit.

Trump chooses his hills to fight and die on. He doesn't take every bit of bait. He sets out, takes a hill of his choosing, and waits for his opposition, who cannot resist his efforts (not that unique to Trump...you just constantly attack the largest political opposition no matter what because they must be wrong at all times), and then watches his opposition take that 20% side of everything.

It's something W could have done. It's something Romney could have done. Instead, they were more focused on either looking moral or trying to create 55-45 issues.

It's just that...most politicians are kind of terrible at politics.

A couple minor points....

1. She wasn't underaged. Her allegation was that she was being trafficked and he was aware. He wanted to fight the allegation but paid her at the direction of his mother.
2. Charles is on the throne, not William.
3. Andrew is currently 8th, just after Harry kid #2, in the line of succession.

He's a spoiled dipshit but I doubt he's worse than that.
