Feel Good Story Legions of Amish Come to Help Rebuild NC Town ‘It’s Fun Making a Difference’
For the towns along Hurricane Helene’s path of destruction through North Carolina, rebuilding homes and stores takes time. But thanks to an army of volunteers, rebuilding the sense of community in towns like Chimney Rock and Bat Cave has been done at light speed. Chimney Rock Village was destroyed by Helene’s flooding, but every day the town’s residents see supplies, people, and building materials coming in from all over the country, and know that the future is bright. A special report by WCNC writes that every store on Chimney Rock’s once-historic main street that’s being rebuilt is being done with donated materials, and the people putting it all together, more often than not, come from a legion of Pennsylvania Amish volunteers from the Great Needs Trust. “We come out here every morning, working mostly in Chimney Rock and in Bat Cave,” Amos Stoltzfus, one such volunteer, told WCNC. “We have been cleaning the campground, also insulating a new building and organizing donated products, paper supplies and dry walling.” In their frocks and bonnets, the women screw panels of drywall onto skeletal timbers as deftly and surely as the men in their straw hats. The famous carpentry expertise of the Amish will do the old town well, and maybe even help to add back a bit of the rustic charm lost in the floods.Read the whole thing. Ivanka stunned in a ~ $1,000 strapless midi dress by Agua by Agua Bendita. The blue dress with a cream floral was adorned with a black bow and was awesome. Maybe it will go on sale?
Lara Trump: Misfire
Lara Trump opted for a pastel pink floral skirt paired with a large, white wide-brimmed hat that gave faux rustic barn party. While the outfit was spring-appropriate, the oversized hat and casual tank top were disjointed with the more formal theme.
Marla Maples: Questionable
Tiffany’s mother, Marla Maples, chose a floral dress that aligned with the spring theme. Details are sparse on the outfit, but it is a bit 80s. At least it didn’t steal the spotlight from her daughter!
Bettina Anderson: What in the shoe?
Donald Trump Jr.’s new girlfriend, Bettina Anderson, wore a skater dress with blue floral print. However, her black mid-heel sling-backs are wrong. She didn’t have any nude strappy sandals? The dress is cute, but short. In fact, the shortest one at the party. Accidentally giving a nod to Kimberly?😂

Bummed because I still haven't gotten results of the CT scan of my abdominal area (have received all other test results from Friday, including chest CT scan), so I don't know if my tumors have shrunk or not.
Happily, my CA19-9 number is the lowest it has been, at 4.4!
I see the oncology surgeon tomorrow, and my oncologist on Tuesday.

Happens to me every two or three weeks over the past few years. I can remember all or almost all the lyrics. And I swear I didn't know the lyrics well back then. Very weird.

Her Majesty is on her way back from Tennessee with Diana and Rosalind. George is with his new daddy on the way to New Jersey.
Meanwhile here, I wanted to pick up poor Fitz's body and transport it to the veterinary school at Texas A&M for study. But I learned they don't take necropsies on weekends, so I'll have to do it tomorrow.
It's sad to lose an older dog, but at least there are memories of their youth and vigor and the silly things they did. But to lose a youngster with its whole life ahead of it is doubly tragic.

Update: Suspect charged in Lapu Lapu Day mass-casualty incident
A suspect has been charged with murder in the death of multiple festival-goers at a Filipino community block party Saturday night.
Eleven people, aged 5 to 65, were killed, and more than two dozen others injured when a man drove an SUV into a crowd of people celebrating the Lapu Lapu Day festival, near Fraser Street on East 43rd Avenue.
A 30-year-old Vancouver man was arrested at the scene by Vancouver Police after bystanders and witnesses intervened to detain him.
The BC Prosecution Service has now charged Kai-Ji Adam Lo, 30, with eight counts of second degree murder. Lo, a Vancouver resident, has appeared in court and remains in custody. The charge assessment is ongoing and further charges are anticipated.
Some of the victims in Saturday’s mass-casualty incident remain unidentified.

He is a genius. Already potty trained and figured out down. He had another moment where he tried to chase a cat tonight , I firmly said down, he did, and then army crawled under the couch. I gave him cheese for stopping mid chase. But he was a little worried after, hence the couch. But he is playing now so it wasn’t too awful.

Just get on his six and stay there long enough to shred that 109 with your 8 .303s. Piece of cake.
But DO NOT pull negative gees in a Spit MK I if chasing or being chased by a 109. You have a float carburetor, he has fuel injection. If you don't remember this it can cause you to lose a kill, or die.

Florida: "ABC Action News spoke with the mayor of Clearwater, Bruce Rector, who says the Clearwater Ferry was in a collision with a privately owned boat. The ferry can carry 50 people.
It was the end of the 17-day Sugar Sand Festival tonight, so a lot of people were taking the ferry back and forth for the festival.
According to Rob Shaw with the City of Clearwater, 42 people were on board the ferry. Of the injuries, six were listed as trauma alerts."

A friend from my Prayer Group is going to be on call to pick me up after surgery and bring me home, where I’ll probably just want to go bed. I have a supply of sandwiches in the fridge ready to go, and bottled water too, so I should be set for a while. I hope I can stand in front of the stove soon and cook, or at least use the microwave, and eat at the table. This eating in bed thing gets tiresome. Goodnight!

He was only comped two tickets to the ceremony, but was told he could purchase more, and he had never even heard of the guys who were introducing him that evening (I think they were members of the band The Black Keys, but I could be wrong.) I’m a hard shell Presbyterian, we only do that sort of anointing when you’re dying. I remember we did that for my late wife’s mother when she was living with us in her later years. She got anointed, and had communion, but she didn’t die then, but some years later. I really liked the old gal - unlike the stereotype we got along wonderfully. She was Presbyterian too.

Yesterday I was at my nephew's fiancee's bridal shower. We had to play a game of guessing what the bride would want to do, and my nephew filled it out ahead of time (and got nearly every one right). Even though they're not living together (I think), he made several comments about her doing anything that would spend his money. Should I be worried? I was cringing the whole time watching that. I still remember half-carrying a coworker down the steps as another coworker was using his parade field voice to tell us to get the hell out. Pooky says he remembers running past 5-gallon buckets that had flammable tags and praying he'd make it before the fire hit that part of the warehouse got hit. Chemical fires are terrifying.

Isn't English the official language for all flight communications? I am not involved in the aviation industry, but I thought I had heard somewhere that all commercial pilots/control towers must be able to communicate in English. That way they know a that the crew of a Korean Air flight can land in Tripoli without the tower crew having to find an interpreter.

The local fire department of Clearwater Florida has declared a mass casualty event. According to US Coast Guard Sector St Petersburg, they were notified at approximately 8:40 p.m. Sunday of a collision between the Clearwater Ferry and a recreational vessel near the Memorial Causeway Bridge.
The recreational vessel involved in the crash reportedly fled the scene immediately following the collision after injuring roughly 40 passengers resulting in one death so far.
6 victims were designated as trauma alerts, 2 of which required immediate air transport for specialized medical care.
The United States Coast Guard and the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission (FWC) have launched a joint investigation into the hit-and-run crash. This is still developing.

But the center of gravity remains actual "sanctuary" lawlessness, which exploits an operationally gray area, and for which the obvious solution is and always has been conditioning federal $$$. Which Congress of course has refused to consider, and won't likely act on. Aggressive ICE tactics (as we saw in WI) are probably the only real option, and of course aren't that relevant for the main problem - the tens of millions of non-criminally involved illegals.

Right, this is the crux of the issue. Mike Johnson has washed his hands and is letting Trump fight it out with the courts. Probably certain provisions, like Trump can’t completely ignore a court ruling without risking an impeachment. Pritzker said he has never before called for mass protests and disruption, but the Trump White House has taken him there.

We used to have fires like that on the beaches around Lake Superior, at my grandparents' place in Wisconsin, for example.
Then their place became part of a National Lakeshore, a numbnuts park ranger became a too frequent visitor, and beach fires were verboten.
Then they had to leave, and some years later, another set of numbnuts burned down their place deliberately, because "nature".
Then numbnuts let their dock, and other docks along that shore, get destroyed by winter storms. So the beach inevitably washed away. And the numbnuts built a dock "to gubmint specs", but the beach never returned.
Now they get are kayakers and sailboaters, all of whom deride motorized boats as "stinkpots". And the numbnuts want to preserve what they hadn't burned down, because "heritage".
