Feel Good Story Legions of Amish Come to Help Rebuild NC Town ‘It’s Fun Making a Difference’ ![]() For the towns along Hurricane Helene’s path of destruction through North Carolina, rebuilding homes and stores takes time. But thanks to an army of volunteers, rebuilding the sense of community in towns like Chimney Rock and Bat Cave has been done at light speed. Chimney Rock Village was destroyed by Helene’s flooding, but every day the town’s residents see supplies, people, and building materials coming in from all over the country, and know that the future is bright. A special report by WCNC writes that every store on Chimney Rock’s once-historic main street that’s being rebuilt is being done with donated materials, and the people putting it all together, more often than not, come from a legion of Pennsylvania Amish volunteers from the Great Needs Trust. “We come out here every morning, working mostly in Chimney Rock and in Bat Cave,” Amos Stoltzfus, one such volunteer, told WCNC. “We have been cleaning the campground, also insulating a new building and organizing donated products, paper supplies and dry walling.” In their frocks and bonnets, the women screw panels of drywall onto skeletal timbers as deftly and surely as the men in their straw hats. The famous carpentry expertise of the Amish will do the old town well, and maybe even help to add back a bit of the rustic charm lost in the floods.Read the whole thing. 'Ette Couture (Courtesy of Piper) It's once again that time of the week to turn the ONT over to our good friend Piper for a bit. Here's this week's fashion pr0n. ------ Tiffany Trump: Radiant The mother-to-be glowed in a custom gown by Ema Savahl Designs. The flowing, powder blue dress featured delicate floral embroidery across the bust and short sleeves. The blue was in obvious homage to the baby boy reveal. and Ivanka Trump: Stunner Ivanka stunned in a ~ $1,000 strapless midi dress by Agua by Agua Bendita. The blue dress with a cream floral was adorned with a black bow and was awesome. Maybe it will go on sale? ![]() Lara Trump: Misfire Lara Trump opted for a pastel pink floral skirt paired with a large, white wide-brimmed hat that gave faux rustic barn party. While the outfit was spring-appropriate, the oversized hat and casual tank top were disjointed with the more formal theme. ![]() Marla Maples: Questionable Tiffany’s mother, Marla Maples, chose a floral dress that aligned with the spring theme. Details are sparse on the outfit, but it is a bit 80s. At least it didn’t steal the spotlight from her daughter! ![]() Bettina Anderson: What in the shoe? Donald Trump Jr.’s new girlfriend, Bettina Anderson, wore a skater dress with blue floral print. However, her black mid-heel sling-backs are wrong. She didn’t have any nude strappy sandals? The dress is cute, but short. In fact, the shortest one at the party. Accidentally giving a nod to Kimberly?😂 ![]() In addition to pastel dresses, there were glorious purses! We can play I spy with this picture. I see Chanel, Dior, Yves Saint Laurent. Who else? ![]() ------ Thank you for another great fashion segment, Piper! Sorry I'm late, I was doing the twist with a little help from my friends when I saw a shooting star coming from the superunknown. It was so bright, I couldn't make out its true colors, and when it impacted the ground I felt like I had been hit by a seven nation army. Maybe I'm overreacting, though, I have always been a bit of an excitable boy.

Update: Suspect charged in Lapu Lapu Day mass-casualty incident A suspect has been charged with murder in the death of multiple festival-goers at a Filipino community block party Saturday night. Eleven people, aged 5 to 65, were killed, and more than two dozen others injured when a man drove an SUV into a crowd of people celebrating the Lapu Lapu Day festival, near Fraser Street on East 43rd Avenue. The BC Prosecution Service has now charged Kai-Ji Adam Lo, 30, with eight counts of second degree murder. Lo, a Vancouver resident, has appeared in court and remains in custody. The charge assessment is ongoing and further charges are anticipated. Some of the victims in Saturday’s mass-casualty incident remain unidentified. ==== I assume the three fatalities not yet charged. A couple of night ago there was an entry on ONT from some award winning cake baker or something. The substance was that by switching out some ingredients on a retail cake mix, you can produce something much better.
-extra egg -butter (salted) instead of vegetable oil -milk instead of water. So, I gave it a shot. And, it turned out remarkably different in a better way. Better color. Better scent. Better moisture. Better taste. I haven't the faintest idea what an award winning cake tastes like. I just like cake. I like it a lot. And, these ingredient switches make me like cake even more. So, give it a shot next time you grab some cake mix. Posted by: Orson at April 27, 2025 10:25 PM (dIske) 72

New Daddy down here was overwhelmed with all this preemie stuff and the minor home repairs just put him over the end and stunned him into a zombie like state.
I shamed him into following me around for a bit and showed him how to rehang a cabinet, install some garden tool holders in the garage, and move the strike plate for a deadbolt. Took all of an hour. He saw that it was not a Sisyphean task to get this shit done. He did say though "I'm just beat. When will I get over this tiredness?" Oh, in about 18 years or so. You're lucky you're not Mom - she has to pump every two hours so quit 'cher bitching. Posted by: Tonypete at April 27, 2025 10:30 PM (vKNmo) 85

Apropos of nothing on this thread, I am going to bed early tonight: got to get up early for a ride with a deacon from my church to go to outpatient surgery at the hospital. Supposed to take half a day, if all goes well I should be out in the afternoon. Surgeon, who seems to have a good reputation, says it should be a low risk surgery. It’s going to be laparoscopy, but they don’t go in through the umbilicus but rather through three holes higher up on my abdomen. If all goes swimmingly I should be up and about Tuesday but have to take it easy for two weeks. Hired someone to take care of my cats because I won’t be able to bend over or crouch for two weeks. Don’t know if this is too much sharing, but if you pray, please pray a little for me. Even though it’s supposed to be low risk, surgery is always daunting. I hope that this operation will resolve the problem I’ve had since Palm Sunday and give me respite from the pain that’s kept me semi-bedridden for a while. I trust in God, but a little prayer for me would be appreciated. Going to bed real soon. Want to be up at 6:30 AM to get ready.

Hey, maybe we should stop crazy people from driving their cars into crowds and killing a dozen people? Or from shooting up a school?
You know why this used to never happen, right? It’s because we used to lock crazies up. These people are almost always known crazies, with multiple things that would have gotten locked away in the 40s or 50s. But now they roam free because psychiatry was highjacked by commies who said that crazy people were actually sane and it was society that was really sick and crazy, so they all get let out. The local fire department of Clearwater Florida has declared a mass casualty event. According to US Coast Guard Sector St Petersburg, they were notified at approximately 8:40 p.m. Sunday of a collision between the Clearwater Ferry and a recreational vessel near the Memorial Causeway Bridge. The recreational vessel involved in the crash reportedly fled the scene immediately following the collision after injuring roughly 40 passengers resulting in one death so far. 6 victims were designated as trauma alerts, 2 of which required immediate air transport for specialized medical care. The United States Coast Guard and the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission (FWC) have launched a joint investigation into the hit-and-run crash. This is still developing. I are not a lawyer, but if one reads the guidance given in WI re ICE interactions, it seems to steer well clear of any obstruction or aiding/abetting. It represents a mind-blowing attitude (catastrophically widespread in the country) to be sure. But the specifics mostly are about "working to rule" in terms of access and info, all of which would not be legally problematic.
Harmeet Dhillon posted an "Oh really?" online in response to the governor's statement, which is somewhat intriguing. But the center of gravity remains actual "sanctuary" lawlessness, which exploits an operationally gray area, and for which the obvious solution is and always has been conditioning federal $$$. Which Congress of course has refused to consider, and won't likely act on. Aggressive ICE tactics (as we saw in WI) are probably the only real option, and of course aren't that relevant for the main problem - the tens of millions of non-criminally involved illegals. Had a rather charming encounter in the parking lot of WalMart, of all places. Was returning to the vehicle with a cart with a few groceries in it. There was a car in the row facing me, between my Suburban and the cart corral. I maneuvered the cart around behind that car, and met the the driver alighting from it. A tall, slender, and drop-dead gorgeous black woman in her 20's, toting a small child. She was wearing a form-fitting pencil dress that clearly did not come off the rack at WM. She could have just stepped off the cover of a Supremes LP. She said to me, "Can I have your cart?" I replied, "Sure, and it's a good roller, too. So many of them have bad wheels on them." She laughed, and said, "don't I know it. Thank you so much, and have a nice day." "You, too!"

Speaking at a dinner for New Hampshire Democrats that is usually reserved for those about to run for president, Illinois Gov. JB Pritzker was sounding like a 2028 presidential candidate Sunday night. Pritzker said he has never before called for mass protests and disruption, but the Trump White House has taken him there. "These Republicans cannot know a moment of peace. They have to understand that we will fight their cruelty with every megaphone and microphone that we have," Pritzker said at the event. "We must castigate them on the soapbox and then punish them at the ballot box. Posted by: Bertram Cabot, Jr. at April 28, 2025 12:42 AM (63Dwl) 341

I’m bringing Columbus Day back from the ashes. The Democrats did everything possible to destroy Christopher Columbus, his reputation, and all of the Italians that love him so much. They tore down his Statues, and put up nothing but “WOKE,” or even worse, nothing at all! Well, you’ll be happy to know, Christopher is going to make a major comeback. I am hereby reinstating Columbus Day under the same rules, dates, and locations, as it has had for all of the many decades before! Spaghetti Day is Back on the Menu! We used to have fires like that on the beaches around Lake Superior, at my grandparents' place in Wisconsin, for example. Then their place became part of a National Lakeshore, a numbnuts park ranger became a too frequent visitor, and beach fires were verboten. Then they had to leave, and some years later, another set of numbnuts burned down their place deliberately, because "nature". Then numbnuts let their dock, and other docks along that shore, get destroyed by winter storms. So the beach inevitably washed away. And the numbnuts built a dock "to gubmint specs", but the beach never returned. Now they get are kayakers and sailboaters, all of whom deride motorized boats as "stinkpots". And the numbnuts want to preserve what they hadn't burned down, because "heritage". Assholes, one and all.
