But when it does combust, it combusts as usual.

17 Does solid rocket fuel spontaneously combust usually?
Posted by: Boss Moss at April 27, 2025 04:46 AM (VUnvY)

Two things. I don't think North Korea has good quality control. The other is the mullahs push for nuclear weapons. Plus, muslims. Can't tell 'em what to do. But Iran was importing both solid and liquid rocket fuel from the Norcoms. Plus, muslims. Can't tell 'em what to do. Apparently both fuels are hard to make. Sometimes things go BOOM!, even in North Korea. They just don't report it. That country has no true world-wide internet access for most of the population. Cell phones change things. I'm reading about it -- and seeing it -- on X, fresh off the presses phones.

Posted by: Boss Moss at April 27, 2025 05:08 AM (VUnvY)

The media are mocking Trump for wearing a blue suit. They selectively edited (now that's a shocker!) a photo to crop Trump into a group of black-suited attendees. The wider shot shows a lot of blue suits. Fake news with fake outrage. Just another day.

My criticism is Trump's suit was too electric of a blue for a funeral. A more subdued dark to midnight blue suit would have been better. I never owned a black suit. To funerals, I always wore a solid dark blue suit. I had a lighter blue Glen-plaid and a dark blue chalk stripe. Neither were appropriate, IMO, for a funeral. (Weddings, yes; funeral, no.) And no bold bright ties. Something subdued. But that's just my former suit-wearing self talking.

39 Funny, we heard "Sultans of Swing" on the local '80s oldies FM station in the car last night. (Even though it was a 1979 song, really. I guess it carried over into 1980?) I first heard the song on AM radio in the middle of the night, driving my courier van over to the north shore of the lake on my one am-nine am route, early in '79. It seemed perfect for that hour in the dim van with only the dash lights for company. To this day I love the song's hint of danger and mystery.

40 The precursor to the plastic that the chinese make our cheap crap out of is pretty much only produced in the US. Ethane. Some in Norway, but not that much. If you use Naptha instead it costs twice as much and is only 40% as efficient. So ethane is 5 times more efficient for your money. Cotton imports are off 90 % in China. If they don't cave on tariffs China won't even have materials to make cheap crap out of. Switching the machines from ethane to naptha will also cost literally billions of dollars.

Posted by: Boss Moss at April 27, 2025 05:28 AM (VUnvY)

41 I'm glad, too, that I got the front wheel bearing work done on my car before any tariffs come along. The Buick is (nominally) an American make, and the parts for a 2016 would not be freshly imported from China or anywhere else, but who knows how the prices will go.

We went to a gallery of art with local artists making art inside. Not my style, mostly, but interesting. The IDF is establishing a new humanitarian zone in Rafah between the Morag and Philadelphi corridors.

Palestinians, after security checks, will be allowed to enter. A tent city will be built, with humanitarian aid delivered by civilian companies, likely American.

The plan aims to separate civilians from terrorists and prevent aid from reaching Hamxs.

That must be a thing out there in Kansas.

I drove home on a State highway, going over 100 miles without a traffic light. Only 3 on the entire route of 130 mies, and 3 stop signs.
I travels through the Smoky Hills, whose gentle hills and good soil blended into the Flint Hills, with steeper hills, poor soil, and rangeland. Some fields showing winter wheat coming up, lots of open range with cattle, almost all black Angus or red Angus cows. I noted the lack of calves, so the cattle herds will be shrinking.

Some fields were bar., Looks like corn is not in the ground yet, and soybeans were not planted. Soybean farmers have been hit very hard by the tariffs on China.

I tried to buy a Minisforum Mini-PC a few years ago.

I bought it on sale one month from Amazon, didn’t need it right away so it sat in the box for about a month and half until I finally got a new monitor for it and decided to open the box and set it up.

I opened the Minisforum box and took everything out and instead of the $800 Ryzen 9 Minisforum unit I ordered the pc was a $120 Beelink unit with a 4-core Intel processor that was basically for using as a NAS or something.

After I got over the shock, I had to contact Amazon and Minisforum who both kept blaming the other and neither wanted to issue a refund because I’d missed the 30 Day return window.

Obviously somebody had ordered this unit, and replaced it with the much cheaper model and then returned it to Amazon to get back a $900 refund,

It took another month and a half of arguing to get my money back after I returned it.

At that point I said screw it and built my own PC by buying all the parts.

And at least I can upgrade this one.

138 At that point I said screw it and built my own PC by buying all the parts.

I used to do just that, then considered how much I kept the computer on, the thought of a 400W+ device pumping out heat 24/7 bothered me to completely convert over to Dell XPS laptops.

I was happy.

Until about five generations out on the processor, the tools kept assuming a usual corporate 36 month turn-over in hardware (aka "upgrade") and demanded more.

Looked at the price of new laptops, considered I already have two company laptops for when I am on my various client's sites, (in banking, they want their own hardware).

Mini-PCs looked ideal, cheap, and I don't need to be portable. Also Intel has given up being competitive so I wanted to go back to AMD or ARM. Wanted 64GB of RAM (run lots of containers) and Mac Books are too damned expensive.

Minisforum crapped out on a Microsoft update, no resolution. Time is Money. Tried GMKtek (cuz they had a new 64GB Amd 370 offering) and here we are.

Doesn't work at all with a Dell hub, the ONE USB C port is worthless (no chip support), so I limp along using HDMI and a DP splitter to get 3 4K monitors.

Cheap, efficient and powerful.

But I’ve heard about your problems with BIOS & Windows updates from other places, so I’m glad I didn’t get it,

I’d probably be spending half my time trying to get things to work after using it for a few years.

Minisforum is making ITX motherboards with an adapted laptop socket with Ryzen chips already in them now.

Drawbacks? The same sparse I/O layout as their Mini-PCs and the aforementioned BIOS problems.

I’d consider one if a Taiwanese company, like Asus or MSI made one.

I wish we could get some American companies to make PC parts again.

At least customer service and reliability would be a bit better.

167 I just wanted to share a lovely experience which I had at our church rummage sale yesterday. I met a lovely woman who was wearing a Notre Dame University. I asked her if she had gone to Notre Dame ( which may sound like a stupid question) but you never know.. She might have had a boyfriend who went there. She had done there and graduated eight years ago. She looked like she graduated last year. She loved the school and it was so meaningful for her to be able to go to mass there instead of going out of it rained into town. I shared like her my son has an Irish name- not a girl's name, of course. She majored in finance and economics and is a financial advisor. It was such a pleasure to talk to an attractive, intelligent young woman and a person of religious faith.

176 I wish we could get some American companies to make PC parts again.

I was working with a supply contracts manager because a company I did work for, cloud based CAD for PSAPs (9-1-1 call centers) was installing equipment on site that gathered up cell phone telemetry data for the 9-1-1 operators to get the caller's location.

Obviously, these are all government clients, and the big ones were very concerned that the on-site equipment was US made. The company was using mini-pcs running Windows 10 Enterprise, and what the supply contracts manager was whining about is the providence of the equipment.

It just isn't made, and can't be made in the US. We did compromise with a US based assembler of units and that was the best we could do.

For a first world country with the second largest economy on earth, the inability to make even mini-pcs is an abomination.

184 I opened the Minisforum box and took everything out and instead of the $800 Ryzen 9 Minisforum unit I ordered

I think we bought the same SKU. Was nice all before it wasn't. Quiet, quick, (64GB version) supported 3 4K monitors without hassle, worked well with a Dell dock. Just bricked when the Windows update attempted to update.

It now has found new life as a Linux box attached to the back of a 40" 4k monitor in the alternate office.

The nice thing about the GMKtek is that it has two M.2 slots, so I leave the original in there as a fallback when Windows does what it does best - bricks cheap Chinese computers. The new drive is a Samsung 990 Pro in the 4TB variety. Seems to work as expected.

198 It's frightening-- but not at all surprising-- how quickly the left went from "no one is above the law" to "we are above the law."

The judiciary shit themselves during Covid, smeared that shit over themselves in the 2020 Election, rolled around in that shit over J6 and the Trump prosecutions, and now they're backing up a dump truck full of shit onto themselves over protecting illegal alien criminals.

The left thinks they have nuclear deterrence, that the public will rally in outrage when Trump defies the courts.

They may want to look at history, what has happened every time a popular president has defied the courts.

So far, he's not defying the courts. If he directly defies a ruling of the courts (which is inevitable, as "the courts", at a certain level, are instruments of the Deep State and weaponized against deportations), I trust he will explain it to the American people and they will, by and large, understand and support him.
