Tuesday Morning Rant

Mis Hum Rant.jpg

"The hubris of elected officials knows no bounds. Or why ............Never mind I can't really write what is running through my head.

A Democrat senator who flew to El Salvador last week to visit a deported Salvadoran migrant elicited fury online after revealing that U.S. taxpayers funded his visit to see the detained non-citizen.

Sen. Chris Van Hollen, D-Md., traveled to Central America last week to check on the well-being of Kilmar Abrego Garcia, 29, a migrant who crossed into the U.S. illegally before settling down in Maryland and marrying an American woman.

Unfortunately I understand the reasoning he is using. (With a headache to boot.) Having seen one of their colleagues get a free trip to a pleasant climate. A couple of attention whores, errr I mean Congressmen (Maxwell Frost (D-FL) and Robert Garcia (D-CA) thought they could pull the same shenanigans. A free trip to El Salvador courtesy of the USA.

It is regrettable our judicial and legislative branches of government believe it can conduct foreign policy. What makes it downright pathetic are the actions of race baiting elected officials of this country. They do every thing but fellatiate the President of El Salvador on prime time television while attempting to use our tax dollars to free a resident of El Salvador from El Salvador.

But on the bright side, Rep. James Comer (R-KY) told the race hustlers to go pound sand.

That's a helluva sanitized version of who he is and what he did. How about:

"an MS-13 gang member, previously caught human trafficking and repeatedly accused of domestic abuse by his American wife."

Adams was not a particularly lovable guy. And if you go back to the Revolutionary era Congress, Adams plotted against Washington (see Conway Cabal among others), was insufferable to Franklin in France, insulted the French, etc.

Adam's political problems wasn't all the fault of Adam's enemies or frenemies like Hamilton. And Washington excluded Adams from his inner circles of the presidency for a reason from Adam's behavior in the Revolutionary War. Adams, like a lot of smart people, rubbed others the wrong way because he always believed he was in the right.

Even if he was a monster, he is owed due process. No one should be debating guilt or innocence. That puts us on their turf. This is all appalling. By focusing so heavily on this or that individual, we are losing the forest for the trees. They ALL must come back.

There are possibly hundreds there in the same situation. Kilmar is the poster person for a real big f/u of this administration. Bring it on, Maxine! And bring them all back for their due process. Kilmar was lucky to have a family speak up for him.

Those El Salvadoran prisons would make great retirement housing someday for all the Republicans crooks, thieves and Nazis currently running our country.

Each senator and representatives have their own office funds to manage as they wish. Then there are committee funds, that is what Comer as chair denied the House Dems that just left.

Hollen's funds apparently came from Senate travel moneys which I am much less familiar with their processes. Rhomboid would probably know but Senators get their adminstrative funds sized for state population plus can tap committee and/or other Senate funds controlled by their party leadership if the trip is related to some legislative purpose.

See above. House Dems have their own funds for managing their offices that are probably close to 1 million per by now. Pretty much discretionary how they use it. Then there are committee funds for 'fact finding' etc. which House Chair of the Committee involved, GOP Rep Comer denied the Dems from using.

So they either used their own office funds or private funds to do it unless House Minority Leader Jeffries released some of his extra leadership money to pay for it.

107 Adams was not a particularly lovable guy.

More like "worse" the disposable income rates in the rural provinces are microscopic compared to the urban coastal areas, and even there, workers are grossly short-changed. The idea that vast numbers of factory workers are now unemployed and returning to the hinterland gives a pretty good indication of how much the tariffs are hurting.

China is an export-dependent country. Domestic consumption certainly takes second place because workers are exploited by the government and don't have the earnings to purchase more goods.

Actually, I think it does bode well. Just like a pimple rising under the skin, the imperial judiciary has been the ratchet that turns the country to the left, step by step. To end that, you essentially lead the judiciary into a trap like what they are doing now. Their crazed rulings are destroying the critical legitimacy in the public that the federal courts need to function and that forces even Scotus to consider its own constitutionally weak position. By the lower courts siding with the 20 instead of the 80 and higher courts letting it happen, it destroys the very political power that lets the courts get away with judicial review.

That allows Trump and Congress to cross the Rubicon to limit them.

What does the "due" in due process mean for people who are here illegally? It certainly isn't the same that is due to American citizens with respect to their legal rights. And TdA and MS13 are being given what is "due" in terms of process by the Trump administration.

177 More like "worse" the disposable income rates in the rural provinces are microscopic compared to the urban coastal areas, and even there, workers are grossly short-changed.

House administrative money is generally used to keep them in office. If they go too far, like Dan Rostenkowski did (he bought stamps with his office funds and cashed them in--amounts were fairly trivial but entitlement I guess). The real money is from insider trading on information and from using their families like the Biden crime family did and to capture honest graft via government grants. The families and friends are bagmen and footsoldiers for the capo House or Senate member's crew.

Heh. Probably. During the early years, most Congress critters spent the minimum time in DC because it was unpleasant climate for much of the year and Congress did not meet or stay in DC except for their much shorter sessions.

Did not really begin to change until the Civil War and afterwards.

But, states would pull all sorts of shenanigans like jerking funds from their delegation, removing them, not paying for their expenses, and so on. Got to the point it was rare to have a quorum in the Articles' Congress because the state's delegations were at home instead of attending Congress.

At the end of the Articles Congress, the US was either going to become separate states that would be easily gobbled up by Europeans, or you were going to get a tyrant.

I still think that each congressional delegation should be paid by the state that they purportedly represent. Pay, housing, travel, fact-finding tours, staffs, all of it. If they don't do a good job, the state can put them into a Motel 6, cattle class transportation, and cut their staff and pay.

Before we talk about how evil free trade is, I want to have a different discussion.

Can we talk about how all levels of government and unions in various ways are running off businesses? Can we talk about how since we have an educational system more concerned about teaching about how there is nothing more important than being gay (for example), they are NOT learning the necessary skills for high end manufacturing among other things? Can we talk about ways we can make it so enticing to do business here that businesses do not want to leave, ever?

Posted by: Catch Thirty-Thr33 at April 22, 2025 12:35 PM (vm8sq)

289 It's not just a free trip. Lookup 'per diem'.

In government travel claims, they get a set amount of money given per day for food/lodging, EVEN WHEN THAT IS ALREADY PROVIDED TO THEM FOR FREE. It's hundreds of dollars per day, PER PERSON.

So he didn't just get a free trip to El Salvador.

Him and his entire staff got paid hundreds (maybe even thousands) of dollars EACH of taxpayer money.

That's why they do this crap. Why they take trips to Ukraine and El Salvador and anywhere else. Free money.

Follow the money.

What I find compelling is that to a certain time he was all against Obamacare, writing all sorts of briefs against it. Then suddenly he changes his mind and revises everything he wrote to say the opposite, sort of like a simple declaratory sentence in Japanese can be inverted by putting “nai” at the end. From that point Robert’s has not been a free man but a slave. A “tax” indeed.
