Two architecture firms teamed up to win the competition to transform the St. Francis of Assisi Church in Heerlen into a public swimming pool. Nicknamed “Holy Water”, the project gives the vacant church a new social function, while preserving the historic elements of this listed national monument. The plans from MVRDV and Zecc Architecten incorporate an adjustable swimming pool floor that will bring flexibility to the space, allowing it to host a variety of activities in addition to swimming. Originally built over 100 years ago in the south of the Netherlands, the church stopped hosting services in 2023, providing the municipality the opportunity to repurpose the building. A new pool within this national monument offers a solution for the increasing number of visitors to Heerlen’s existing pools, while giving the vacant church in the city center a new lease of life. The design that connects old and new, allows visitors to walk through the church’s aisles to reach the changing rooms or restaurant, both located at the rear of the church. Glass walls separate these passages from the climatized central pool space. To make room for the swimming pool, the existing floor will be carefully removed. The church’s pews will be reused by incorporating them into the separating glass walls surrounding the pool, providing seats for the swimmers on one side, while serving as bar tables for spectators on the other side. A Chinese-made toilet brush designed as a parody of American President Donald Trump has seen a massive spike in domestic sales as a result of the tit-for-tat tariff war between China and the US. In March, I mentioned the death of our neighbor and long-time ranch foreman Bob, whose family was associated with mine for four generations. He and his wife had three children (one now deceased), ten grandchildren, 24 great-grandchildren, and 4 great-great-grandchildren. Including many spouses. His was quite a funeral. Wonderful family.
Alas, such will not be my legacy. I love our three kids, even the estranged and confused one who has had our only (so far) two grandkids who we don't get to see.

From my experience people tend to model interactions on the manners and behaviors on the people they are communicating with. When you are doing something like a cold call, or just a service based phone contact, the goal of the phone agent is to lead the interaction, not follow the customer's lead. There are tricks to this, but the main one is to be impervious to snits and maundering, and stick to the intent of the call - Politeness and respect really helps.
In my limited dealings with AI agents, they tend to be talky, and quite polite. I wondered if that would mean that more people would start modelling their behavior on phone and text after that, being more verbose and mannered that what we have become in the last 50 or so years

I've been to one in Charleston SC. Mixed feelings on repurposing buildings which used to be churches. On one hand, it's nice to not tear down such beautifully made places. On the other hand, it certainly is sad that church buildings become abandoned. However, I am often reminded when reading the Word of God that "the church" is not a building, but rather a body of believers.

Nope, that would be Iraq. More consulates more personnel, and he was an embassy local employee who guarded me and the ambassador because we were targeted. Its a most unpleasant feeling, I assure you.

Or, better - think of the communication issues. I’m reading a bio on John Quincy Adams, who probably saw more of Europe than most Americans at the time. I have established a pretty good stock of tools here, that will remain here. I have a road box or two in the Suburban, in case I have to replace a water pump, or alternator or starter on the road. Much beyond that, and I don't want to be doing it while traveling. Some of the nifty tools I find at swaps or garage sales will go home with me. Like that Milwaukee drill. A month or two ago, I got a "refurb" 1/2" drive 20 volt electric impact wrench at Harbor Freight, and it works great, and I already had charger and batteries here for the drill I use. I think I will buy another battery and charge before leaving, and take them and the impact driver home with me, because it's very handy, and will save me a lot of time spooling out air hose to run the air tools at home. And in the road box, too.

But what usually happens is that a panel, comprising maybe 1/4 to 1/3 of the nut's circumference, pops out, and you still have to pick out the nut meat in pieces.
