Texas AG Ken Paxton Announces Challenge to Supercuck RINO John Cornyn
Cornyn is one of the group of eight or so liberal Republicans who vote against conservative priorities. And when they do vote for those priorities, it is only because an intense pressure campaign has convinced them they are putting their careers at risk if they refuse. Thom Tillis, for example, whines that he was pressured to vote for Trump's nominees, and not-so-secretly schemed to get Pete Hegseth's brother's ex-wife (this sounds like the Spaceball joke) to come forward and make unfounded accusations against Hegseth to give him cover to vote against Hegseth. In the end, Tillis voted for Hegseth -- but only because MAGA informed him that his senate seat was in danger if he didn't. That's the same kind of McCain bullshit that Cornyn has been doing for decades now. Yet he claims, preposterously, that he's Fighting For President Trump and Paxton is the guy trying to undermine Trump:
Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton announced a primary challenge against the Lone State state's longtime Sen. John Cornyn in what might shape up to be an ugly battle. A Republican, Cornyn has held the U.S. Senate seat from Texas since 2002 while Paxton has been active in Texas politics since he ascended to attorney general in 2015. In his announcement, Paxton said the state needs a new senator to "stand up for Republican values." "I'm announcing that I'm running for U.S. Senate against John Cornyn, who apparently is running again for his fifth term, which would put him there three decades. It's definitely time for a change in Texas," Paxton told Fox News host Laura Ingraham on her program.

"During his first term John Cornyn voted with President Trump more than 95% of current Senators, securing the votes for his biggest accomplishments as his Whip," said the post. "Democrats are trying to destroy President Trump, and he and Texas need a battle-tested conservative who knows how to protect his agenda in the Senate and won't be outsmarted by Chuck Schumer."
At least one recent poll from Texas Public Opinion Research gives Paxton a 10-point edge over Cornyn for the time being.Cornyn is one of Mitch McConnell's loyalists. And speaking of: McConnell just voted against another Trump nominee, in an act that JD Vance called out as the "one of the great acts of political pettiness" from McConnell.

My take (from my notes at the time) was:
Bridge argued that we had to face reality and give up the "two theater" approach because we can not do it and will lose both. His argument was that we need the allies to step up, we can convince Japan, Taiwan, etc. that even though we abandoned Ukraine, we will not abandon them, and that we just don't have the capabilities

Uh...it is? He (and other presidents) have said the US gets ripped off in trade, other countries have high tariffs and regulatory restrictions on US goods, but they have no incentive to change them. Trump slaps on huge tariffs, all nations (but China) rush to negotiate lowered tariffs and restrictions on US goods...the US wins. Even better, it allows us to more fully engage China in an economic war while other countries can now pick up the slack in production for us (and consumption of our goods as well).
I don't think Trump wanted super-high tariffs on all foreign goods forever...it was a negotiating tactic to force people to the table. And it worked. Now, those countries need to put up actual, tangible changes, or they know they'll get slammed in 90 days...and the nations that DO cooperate will take their business and thrive instead.

Not really. Negotiations take time or they are done hastily with unintended consequences for us (non trade barriers being ignored).
Trump is aiming at making deals but apparently keeping a 10 percent tariff for revenue from imports other than China during the interim.
Much of our deficit with places like Mexico and Canada are actually transhipped Chinese goods 'assembled' in those countries to qualify under the MCA. I think that is probably true with Ireland, Vietnam, and possibly Taiwan as well.

Not really. According to Bessent more than 70 countries have come to the table to negotiate. They will be rewarded with a 10% baseline tariff and 90 pause to negotiate a bi-lateral agreement with the US.
The one notable exception is China because they refused to negotiate and started raising tariffs. They will more tariffs.
It was always a way to bring countries to the table to negotiate fair trade agreements. And now they are coming. China will either fold or implode.

US for a long time had a policy of being able to fight two peer adversaries at the same time. That went to the 1.5 strategy during the Obammy years where we could fight a peer like China or the USSR plus someone like the Norks at the same time. Now, with a vastly depleted fleet, troops of dubious quality as far as training, withered logistics, etc. the DoD needs to realistically recalculate what is needed to fight a war if necessary against a peer rival like China as well as other contests. If we are aiming at moving beyond the Cold War paradigm, that might mean more long reach assets than infanty.

Yes, but also that some things are beyond us. Like fighting a major land war not in direct defense of the US. We simply do not have the boots to do that and a volunteer force means every buck spent on boots on the ground is at the expense of air, space, and sea power.

I haven't watched it yet, but in the yootoob music world Rhett Shull just put up a video about how the Trump tariffs are going to destroy the guitar industry. I'm not sure what his take is, but I can guess. And it'll be utter horseshit, because guitars are durable goods, used for years, also while Chi-Nah makes the cheap guitars (and surprisingly, they're often fairly well made, but the problem with them is the weird woods and wood treatments they use), other craphole nations like Indonesia and Vietnam build low-to-medium end guitars that are quite nice for the price. Certainly better quality than the Japanese guitars I learned on when I started noodling over 40 years ago.
