14 I assume this is one of those painting which, despite being stupid and hideous, has some important technical aspect like... the first time someone painted the cap of a chimney which wasn't attached to the chimney.

No they never taught us what was real
Iron and coke

And we're waiting here in Allentown

But they've taken all the coal from the ground
And the union people crawled away

Had a summer job in NJ back in high school. The air quality was awful every day. However, the day the chlorine tank ruptured at a plant a mile away and everyone in the area had to evacuate, that one remains in my memory.

Stage of the English language from about the 12th through 15th centuries

113 EPA is investigating every employee’s badge swipes into the building….

….When they logged into their laptop, and comparing it to their timesheets. We got an email Tuesday night stating that they are going do this for everyone since returning to the office. I feel like I’m being treated like a criminal for just coming in and doing my job. It feels like a trap after making us all RTO full time quickly (when many of us live far away from our offices), being demonized by the public, being demoralized little by little everyday, and many of us newer employees come in everyday not knowing if we’ll have a job tomorrow. It is clear they are trying to fire as many people as possible without giving us severance pay and the 60 day notice.

One person at my workplace was accused yesterday of timesheet discrepancies. The person came back with receipts proving her timesheet was accurate, and they said “oopsies, wrong person, sorry”

LOL.

I learned how complicated bill passage was when I spent a day 10 years ago looking into South Carolina legislature votes with an aim to building some kind of database.

Never happened.

Anyway, bills have to pass multiple readings before a final floor vote in the SC legislature.

Legislature love their rules. They compound over the decades until it's a mess that only a dedicated parliamentarian could ever begin to unravel.

It's the nature of bureaucracy: increased complication for ultimately the sole purpose of making things more complicated.

164 > EPA is investigating every employee’s badge swipes into the building
--------
In one case I'm familiar with, a woman (GS-14) would "clock in" at her regular time and then around lunch go work at an animal shelter for several hours before returning to "clock out." She was paid at both jobs. Her government timesheet was falsified.

She was outed by someone working for/with her.

After the initial investigation she was referred for dismissal AND prison for a number of offenses dealing with the money she "earned" working for the feds while not actually working for the feds.

I do not think she went to prison but I do think she had to pay back however many thousands or 10's of thousands of dollars she bilked her employer out of. And was fired.

Point being; this sort of thing is common with federal employees and one of the reasons they are fighting tooth and nail the Trump order to return to in person work at the office.

Lemme Guess. The argument was that with the expansion they’d get so much more business the $1.7b would be paid back in no time.

And nobody mentioned that after the graft and theft the real number would be $2.9B. And with the delays caused by environmentalists and lawsuits it would t be done until 2037. By which time it would be time to start a new renovation.

yes
first, they vote on whether or not to even talk about the bill
then they vote on who can speak, and in what order
then they vote on what's for lunch
after lunch, they vote on how long each guy can talk about the bill

then they vote on who was hotter: Rachel or Monica
then they vote on whether or not it is time to stop talking about the bill, and actually vote on it
then they vote on if Phoebe should be included in the discussion of who is the hottest
by then it's very late, so everybody goes home

She got way too moist worrying about whether the U.S. would be able to outdo the magnificent messaging spectacle that she fervently believed their opening ceremony of circus freaks was.

293 In 2021, the Biden administration moved to reverse a Trump-era rule from 2020 that redefined showerheads, allowing each nozzle to deliver up to 2.5 gallons per minute. That change had loosened an Obama-era standard capping total flow at 2.5 gallons across all nozzles.

The prior administration argued that tighter showerhead water flow limits promoted water conservation and lowered consumer utility costs.
