48 All seriousness aside, the light from the windows does not dazzle (unlike so many H'wood movies and TV shows nowadays), but illuminates the people and their faces and body language.

Since everybody is dressed warmly even indoors, I expect this is a winter's day with lots of sunlight, and the hearth fire in the peasant hut has not yet begun to warm the room.

80 This is a charming scene. The unmarked floor and bright walls and ceiling demonstrate how fresh everything is, a new beginning. The many well wishers, each one an individual in facial expression, action, age and clothing, shows how important the occasion is to the village. I like the way the artist uses natural bright sunlight to bring out the qualities of the fresh wood and the details of the clothing and sparse decorations.

This could be a 19th century Russian Norman Rockwell. It has that family and community feel.

That’s not quite how it works. There’s no American oil or foreign oil market. It’s all one global market and one price. Oil is fungible.

But that aside today’s oil price is a future price. Its a bet on what demand / supply will be in a few months from Now, not today. It’s why it takes some time for gas prices to fall when oil prices fall.

The decline is a bet by traders that a recession is coming. Recession means less demand for oil hence cheaper price.

I've tried the Shell regular a few times in the Buick, and seem to get about the same mileage for the same kind of driving as I do with Exxon. But the Buick's injectors are in good shape -- and I have never tried Shell's 93. I think I ran it from time to time in the BMW. That car required 91 at least.

There are no sales taxes, income taxes, or statewide property taxes in Alaska. A few towns have a local sales tax, but most do not.

The state is essentially funded by oil revenue, to the point that the government generally cuts a check for a thousand or two to every Alaskan every year, as their share of the accumulated wealth.

212 Other than the extremes like Cali, Illinois, etc yeah state taxes are generally in the same band when you add it all up. Some have low sales or low/no income tax but they make it up with high property or tolls or car registration tax. Adds up to around the same. Depending on individual situations some are more advantageous than others. If you’re retired you want low property tax instead of low income tax. That kind of thing. But the overall tax burden isn’t that different state to state.

And then there’s Alaska which is its own thing.

But that aside today’s oil price is a future price. Its a bet on what demand / supply will be in a few months from Now, not today. It’s why it takes some time for gas prices to fall when oil prices fall.

The decline is a bet by traders that a recession is coming. Recession means less demand for oil hence cheaper price.

That's not quite correct, as there is American sourced or stored oil and there is oil on the high seas or sourced from other countries. The OPEC increase in supply is being absorbed by China, but oil shipped from Houston is backing up and American storage is filling up.

My son's manufactured home is being delivered today. We share a driveway and part of his section goes across my property and it doesn't have gravel yet. It's spring in Indiana. We got flooding rains last week. The ground is soft. They are absolutely wrecking my yard and the end of the driveway already.
This delivery is gonna be seriously unpretty.
Don't get me wrong, it's worth it to have the spawn and his lady and my brand new grandson back on the hill, but damn! I've been getting this place looking great for twenty years. Then we got a manufactured home and tore down the old house before it fell in. Last spring and summer Hubbymayhem and I worked our asses off trying to get the place looking decent again. Still have plenty of work to do out there. And once the boy spawn gets his house and driveway done there's gonna be more.

We spent billions for that base and we left hundreds of millions worth of equipment there it was insane that we left it (at least that way).

I used to work with a guy who was involved in the shutdown of the Subic Bay Naval base, back when.

As he told the story, everything (and I mean *everything*) that was remotely portable got taken. Stuff that wasn't got deliberately fucked up. Windows smashed out, plumbing wrecked, refrigerators with their coils stabbed, etc. etc.

303 FL has cheap gas but the state also has the most miles of toll roads in the country.

The entire point of gas taxes is that they're supposed to be used to maintain the roads.

People who drive on the roads buy gas, the tax fixes the roads they wear out by driving on them.

That's why red-dyed (aka off-road or agricultural diesel) isn't taxed. Because those vehicles don't (or shouldn't) drive on the road.

Neat, simple, effective, completely screwed up by environuts who want - and in some places got - a cut of the gas taxes to build bike paths that gas vehicles are forbidden from using.
