  • Oracle got hacked, twice, recently, according to Oracle staff who won't go on the record and are now in fact in hiding in an undisclosed location. (Yahoo)

    Or something.
Oracle staff informed some clients this week that the attacker gained access to usernames, passkeys and encrypted passwords, according to the people, who spoke on condition that they not be identified because they're not authorized to discuss the matter.
Note that this is the same company that very recently proclaimed:
There has been no breach of Oracle Cloud. The published credentials are not for the Oracle Cloud. No Oracle Cloud customers experienced a breach or lost any data.
Basically, the data that was stolen in the breach that Oracle so strenuously denied ever happened is real, but old, and likely useless.

13 Skopje

We can all get irritable on here, but before people launch off into insults it might be helpful to not just count to 100, but count to 1000 before saying something we regret. Except for bots and trolls intending to be disruptive, most people are doing the best they can in their lives and attempting to understand things. In addition, we are all unique people and don't all understand things in the same way, And before "launching off" it might be helpful to think about whether personal circumstances and trials might be affecting how we respond to someone we don't know.

I understand the theory of tariffs but not the specifics here , but I don't think the MSM wants to make things clear. They want to get scoring points against Trump. They want to have people with their hair on fire.

18 Blonde Morticia - Just an example of 'reorganizing'... Stellantis has plants all across NA (the US, Canada and Mexico) that perform the various processes that result in a car being produced for sale. Panels and other pieces get stamped, transmissions get assembled in places here in the US and are then shipped to Mexico where they are assembled, then the car is exported into the US for sale with a tariff applied by Mexico. It will take a while for Stellantis to reorganize the supply chain and restructure/retool existing facilities in the US assemble the cars here - OR - Mexico can remove the tariffs they apply to their exports. It's worth noting too, in Mexico Stellantis is going to pay their people to show up and not work.

Yesterday Miss Linda and I visited Franklin, LA. A rather pretty town, I'll own, despite it being in Lousy-ana. If it could be moved wholesale to someplace higher and drier which does not have hurricanes, it would be even nicer and possibly a good place to live. The big Buick performed like the champion it is. Today it will get some fluids changed and possibly a rinse. Though it will rain Sunday . . . but I can wash it on Monday. Living in a city as opposed to just visiting is vastly different. Learning how the city ebbs and flows (that sounds stupid, but I can't think of any other way to say it) is fascinating. When it wakes up, when it goes to sleep, when the garbage is picked up, which stores get crowded when, what people snack on...

It's all great!

The odd thing though is that the pace of life is simply slower. Store clerks are slower, people walk slower, waiters are relaxed...hell, I got a haircut last week and the woman (very nice rack by the way) simply stopped cutting my hair for a two minute chat with her coworker.

That takes getting used to!

Posted by: CharlieBrown'sDildo at April 04, 2025 06:01 AM (L5An7)

63 Good morning, one and all. Happy Friday to those of you who celebrate it.

Last night was date night (We typically go out every Thursday and Sunday since places tend to be less crowded). Since my wife is housesitting for some friends of ours, I picked her up and we went to a new Indian place that had opened in town.

I selected the Hakka noodles and then the inevitable question came up. "So the spice level is about medium is that OK?"

"I prefer spicy."

"errr...how spicy?"

"Pretend that I'm Indian and I asked you for spicy."

I saw the cook having a conversation with the manager and he looked at me curiously. The end result? There was some kick and it was a bit smoky in taste. Not a bad night.

66 In Franklin's Historic District, too, we visited a coffeehouse called The Lamp Lighter. The name suggests a bar or lounge, but this was an actual coffee place, with actual food as well. There were notices apologizing in advance for their having to raise their prices recently -- but their coffee alone was at least a dollar cheaper for the same size as you'd find at my local places.

They had a slogan emblazoned on a sign, too: C.O.F.F.E.E., or "Christ Offers Full Freedom to Each and Everyone." I'd never seen that before.

There was an ice cream parlor next door to it, but we didn't check it out. Linda was too busy dragging me into a thrift shop and then a flea market. I should have stayed in the coffee place with my book and just let her roam.

68 TGIF. I'm starting to shiver a little as I read about Trump's tariffs. Some cool heads say they're bad news.
Posted by: Blonde Morticia

The people talking down about the tariffs come in two flavors:

- They know history and current theory and they're unable or unwilling to consider that times are different and the theory may be wrong.
- They just want to badmouth Trump.

The people talking up about the tariffs come in two flavors:

- Trump fanboys who hail everything he does, regardless.
- People who're tired of Americans being screwed by the world and don't care if it all goes down in flames so long as other feel the pain also.

The world is a different place than it was the last time the US used tariffs extensively, more interconnected. But every other country on the planet puts tariffs on us. Why is it only bad when we use them?

75 I think the tariff fiasco is going to make a lot of Americans realize that America still makes a heck of a lot more than we thought we did, it's just that no one buys the crap anymore.

You get a massive demand for domestic goods, and suddenly "no one makes anything here anymore" becomes "Oh hey, who are you?"

It's mostly a hunch, but i think it's the right one.

81 I've noticed truck stops offering Indian Food. I can't understand the attraction. You stop in, fuel up and chow down on some curry, thinking it hot but not bad. And a half hour later, the Kenworth is at a steady 85mph, the curry starts kicking in (and not in a good way).

My love for spicy food started in the early 90s and living in the dorms for two years. It got the point when my friends heard me say "This has a bit of a kick," they would avoid it.

We must constantly be made to suffer for our ancestors stealing land from the noble tribes like the Slapahoe and the Wherethefukawi and any attempt to put our nation first is Literally Hitler.

Hope that explains it.

I know the reasons the NPCs cite. And the uniparty is opposed because they're paid handsomely to do so.

The question, I suppose, is what an honest, thoughtful person would answer. I guess if they truly believe tariffs are bad then they'd say that every leader of every other country is an idiot and they had just never noticed.

People get trapped into preconceptions and it's almost always to their detriment. How often have we mocked the lifelong Democrats who vote that way because "FDR gave my grandpa a job so Democrats care about people like me"?

172 > wonder how many members of the black community are aware that they were doing so much better before they were convinced to become "authentic"
---------
The black community has realized they're no longer at the head of the free shit line. The illegals have taken their place, so far as the Democrats are concerned. And the illegals have been showered with money, clothes, food and housing whereas the blacks haven't. Not to the degree the illegals are.

Had this trend continued there would have been massive unrest between the two ethnic demographics.

There still may be....

183 "Cloud" and "Breached" are synonyms.
"Computers" and "Breached" are synonyms.

The only questions are:
1. What do you choose to make susceptible to a breach
2. How do you gauge the odds of a breach, the appeal of a breach, and the scope of a breach - and are you better off rolling your own systems or paying someone else to host it, given the sensitivity of what you're doing and your level of competence vs. theirs

Not just as a company, but the DBMS itself and most of their products (Mysql gets a pass, because Oracle didn't create it) are just awful and I'll never understand why any business in its right mind would use them, outside of momentum/sunken costs originating from the 1990s. Or sheer upper level IT management stupidity, which can never be ruled out.

189 129 Britain had reciprocal tariffs in the 19 century. And the sun never set on the British Empire.

Posted by: no one of any consequence

- -
They did well at that time, as the only industrial powerhouse in the world.

Then the U.S. surpassed them. Then Germany started surpassing them. France was giving them a run for their money.

And by the start of the 20th century, the world had reached the first form of a true globalist economy.
You could order resources and products from all around the world and receive them in record time.
You could communicate around the world through telegraph and telephone and then radio.

Then WWI came and blew all of that to pieces.

The Brits were, by then, no longer the largest industrial powerhouse. That’s when they started the entire free trade movement, to help their exports and a shrinking economy.

America has been at the top for over a century.
But we’ve steadily been losing ground for fifty years.

China is now where we were a century ago.
And the world is more connected than ever.

We have now entered a new Multi-Polar world, very similar to the situation before WWI.
We have to face this reality.

Ha! As best as I can tell, Thomas Sowell's remarks on the tariffs is in line with my reservations I posted about here yesterday.

Some people don't accept tariffs as a political tool and not an economic one. Trump is doing this to pressure the other countries to BACK OFF!
