Taxpayers had invested $4 million to bring the museum up to Smithsonian standards, with an additional $600,000 per year required for upkeep. That worked out to about $315 per visitor--a price tag that Zeldin and his team argue cannot be justified.

Two quick responses: 1. The "museum" was not designed to attract visitors or generate profits or function as any kind of rational business. It was designed to funnel money to Democrap constituencies and donors. I'll bet any amount of money they spent 10x building this as they should have. Where do you think the money went? 2. My major gripe is we never learn of the details behind the initiation of nonsense, personal projects like this. And, it was a personal project. Some advisor or Democrat fundraiser somewhere made this happen. Biden hadn't faintest idea the concept even existed. You could ask him right now about the EPA Museum and he'd stare blankly right back at you.
So, who initiated the project? How did they legally appropriate the money to do so? Were the proper legal steps taken to assure compliance with the law? While clearly he was too far gone for any rational thought on any issue other than which ice cream flavor or which girl to sniff. But he still clearly was just as arrogant, egotistical, and vain as he always was, and still very thirsty for power and authority. You could see it whenever he was even remotely challenged. So while he wasn't involved in policy details, he was almost certainly involved at the big-picture level, trying to ensure his legacy. Posted by: Elric Blade at April 04, 2025 12:37 PM (iFTx/) 99

I strongly suspect that in terms of effective policy (though perhaps not so much in the realm of Party strategy - I'm not sure), Obama was also pretty much a puppet. ValJar had to grab him by the lapels and order him to take out Bin Laden.
It was largely the same politburo in both cases, and they did a worse job when they took their second bite off the apple. Posted by: Joe Mannix (Not a cop!) at April 04, 2025 12:34 PM (WkNQM) I agree. I don't think Obama was any more in control when he was president than Biden is. I’ve argued that many corporate multiples are way overvalued, and that’s true. Same for some of these companies that don’t seem to produce anything. But this is growing into a full blown panic like I’ve never seen. It doesn’t feel like a correction because there aren’t a lot of places to go. It’s probably necessary and a byproduct of the profligate way our country has been living. But people need to be a little sober about the retail investors who weren’t savvy enough to see this coming. You know, those same people Trump attracted with his touting of how well their 401ks were doing. Will it bounce back? I don’t think anyone knows the answer. I personally believe it will transition provided we are able to attract enough companies to build domestic production. But that ain’t happening overnight.

Meanwhile ....
Lee Zeldin's kamikaze run for NYS Governor fell short but helped flip several NYS House seats and win the Rs the House. Else we'd still have Speaker Nancy (shudders). Zeldin's at it again as head of the EPA and, nerdish as it is, it will have momentous consequences. The core fiction of the Global Warming Scam is the assertion that CO2 is a "pollutant" enshrined into current law as the Endangerment Finding, and not just a trace gas that's vital plant food: "the endangerment finding has served as the foundation for a massive expansion of EPA authority, enabling it to impose its will into most aspects of American life. The finding also provided the driving rationale for the U.S. to sign onto the 2015 Paris Climate Accord, which in turn has driven the global effort to invoke a forced energy transition with trillions of dollars in government subsidies." The internal chassis/spaceframe of vehicles are 99% ignored by the buying public. But if you look at how this spaceframes evolved, they're 500x safer, stiffer, lighter, cheaper, and overall better than even 30 years ago. From an engineering perspective, it's interesting. Posted by: Elric Blade at April 04, 2025 12:43 PM (iFTx/) 158
What's actually been going on is that the Earth has been warming for other reasons that have nothing to do with Man. CO2 in the atmosphere has been increasing but that's a lagging effect of, not a cause of, the Earth's warming. As the oceans warm they can't hold gases as well so a small amount of those gases moves into the air, CO2 included. It's science!
As a youth, I unwittingly ran an experiment that proves this. More than once I let my tropical fish tank get too warm which drove out the O2 (and CO2) so my guppies went belly up. Where's my Nobel Prize? Zeldin just had the EPA propose rule changes to overturn the Endangerment Finding and more. This will have momentous consequences but you won't hear of it in our Media which only covers its own circus. Posted by: Ignoramus at April 04, 2025 12:43 PM (HUwNa) 159

I'll tell you what. I think there's a much bigger issue that tariffs about to hit the airways. I saw yesterday that the General running the Cyber facet of the NSA got canned without explanation. And, they didn't even wait for him to get back to Washington (he was travelling). Then in an impromptu presser from Air Force 1, Trump made a point to state that DOGE just uncovered something "truly horrible." I think last week Musk and DOGE were over at the NSA.
My guess is that they acquired confirmation of something that has been speculated for a long while (and pushed off as a conspiracy theory). I think various alphabet agencies (FBI, CIA) subcontract out to private orgs.(like Fusion GPS) and provide them access to the Meta Data collected by the NSA. These subcontractors are extensions of the Democrat Party, and use the Meta-Data to build up opposition research on political opponents, appointment nominees, and even Supreme Court nominees. Posted by: Archimedes at April 04, 2025 12:41 PM (xCA6C) New plant and equipment takes some time to get online and have an economic impact. Trump will cut the federal red tape and companies will move into states that won’t clog up the process. Some of these auto companies have been adept enough to shift production to domestic factories Ecuador they’ve seen this movie before. Taken together the overall long term economic impact is great as you gain jobs that are pretty stable. But there’s a whole lot of pain in between as we deleverage from the past paradigm. I'll give the EPA a 'plus' for their early years of raising environmental awareness; highlighting that good stewardship of the natural environment is a good idea.
But the EPA should never have been an executive agency in the first place - that's what the Department of Interior is for (assuming that even a DoI is a good idea). I expect the tariff situation to be resolved in 30 days and the market back to where it was by end of June. Indeed, as soon as China caves, all the tech stocks -- which make up disproportionate shares of the indexes -- will spike. Overall, I think that's what's most got the market so jittery: What will we do without Chinese slave labor?? Solve that problem, and you're halfway home.

The massive waste of since 2008, Obama the Spendthrift, wasn't just payoffs to various insiders, cronies, and lackies.
It was also to provide jobs for the explosion of "credentialed but otherwise unemployable, lacking any marketable job skills" degreed women the universities were pushing out. You think "Life of Julia" happens if the Julias don't find soft-landings after their "cock carousel 20s" rolls over to "cat women 30s" without Daddy Sugar paying the whole way? Fun fact:
When the left raises the oft-repeated insult to America about the lack of museums in the US, you can point out that the US has more museums than any other country in the world. Because, what they mean, is they are only counting major metropolitan and university behemoths of lavish architecture and massive government subsidies. What they don't count are the thousands and thousands of small, public and private (but open to the public) museums that are all over. I feel like that’s a blind spot for Trump. These labor unions are one reason companies started looking overseas for workers. They cut margins so heavily the companies can not make money or put investments into new plant and equipment. That puts you in a death spiral plus it priced your products out of a lot of markets and domestically ultimately kills jobs. Based on a few of their last negotiations it doesn’t look to me like they’ve learned that lesson. We will end up right back where we are if they keep that up. Posted by: Marcus T at April 04, 2025 01:05 PM (AW6h8) 341
I personally believe it will transition provided we are able to attract enough companies to build domestic production. But that ain’t happening overnight.

Donald J. Trump @realDonaldTrump The Witch Hunt against Marine Le Pen is another example of European Leftists using Lawfare to silence Free Speech, and censor their Political Opponent, this time going so far as to put that Opponent in prison. It is the same “playbook” that was used against me by a group of Lunatics and Losers, like Norm Eisen, Andrew Weissmann, and Lisa Monaco. They spent the last nine years thinking of nothing else, and they FAILED, because the People of the United States realized that they were only Corrupt Lawyers and Politicians. I don’t know Marine Le Pen, but do appreciate how hard she worked for so many years. She suffered losses, but kept on going, and now, just before what would be a Big Victory, they get her on a minor charge that she probably knew nothing about – Sounds like a “bookkeeping” error to me. For me, there is one thing that makes Obama the worst president in my lifetime - by far. It's not Obamacare, Iran, or TARP either.
He had the chance to finally put race behind us, and have us move forward as a country. Trump is ripping the Band-Aid off and taking decisive action to fix our economy, from the roots. Obama could have taken a little pain to call his presidency a 'post-racial' period, ended affirmative action, and told people to take advantage of his gift of an election as an opportunity to truly move on. He didn't, and race relations are worse now than they were 50 years ago. I can't forgive him for that. I didn't vote for him, but as a black man I was hoping that he would capitalize on the moment he was uniquely given. To throw that away for short-term partisan advantage is unforgiveable. He damaged the very fabric of this country, and Biden's pathetic grifting doesn't hold a candle to the damage Obama caused. Posted by: Darrell Harris at April 04, 2025 01:13 PM (pLpVh) 403

However, the museum saw fewer than 2,000 visitors in its first nine months, which some may call pathetic.
Taxpayers had invested $4 million to bring the museum up to Smithsonian standards, with an additional $600,000 per year required for upkeep. That worked out to about $315 per visitor--a price tag that Zeldin and his team argue cannot be justified. The $315 per visitor is the upkeep per visitor. That doesn't include the $4,000,000 "to bring the museum up to Smithsonian standards", so the total cost per visitor for the first nine months is $2,300. Viet Nam is the first 'Domino to fall' in the great Trade War... Trump and Leader of Communist Party had a phone call where Viet Nam wants to get rid of all Tariffs. Posted by: Romeo13 __________________________ Vietnam is a weird one. Most of the recent manufacturing started there is made up of Chinese companies. You might have even noticed an uptick in goods in the US retail that say "Made in Vietnam". What they should say is "Made in Vietnam by Chinese". All of Europe staked its entire future on mass imports of fetid third-world mutants. They will defend this unto death. Captain Ahab would think they should let it go. They cannot -- and will not -- allow MLP to win.
Posted by: Elric Blade at April 04, 2025 01:16 PM (iFTx/) --- Except...if Europe continues down this path, it has NO future. The immigrants will soon become the permanent ruling class. It's already happening and there's little to nothing they can do stop it. Posted by: "Perfessor" Squirrel at April 04, 2025 01:21 PM (7fElN) ________ I agree. Europe has no future. But it won't matter. The Euro elites are 100% committed to unlimited immigration no matter what the costs. I don't see how the elites can be stopped, short of true violent rebellion. And personally, I think it there was a violent rebellion, it would be the immigrants who end up winning. When 10,000 African Muslims show up on Champs-Elysees with machetes and probably quite a few guns, who is gonna stop them? Posted by: Elric Blade at April 04, 2025 01:29 PM (iFTx/) 494

Lenin and Eddie Albert were both born on 22 April (though, in Lenin's case it was the Old-Style date).
Albert was a big leftie enviro, too. So it could've been his birthday that Earth Day commemorates. Posted by: Bulg at April 04, 2025 01:17 PM (77rzZ) ______________ Not a chance. They chose Lenin's birthday intentionally - I'd bet my life on it. Look at address of the late unlamented Coffee Party's website: Coffee Party USA. Why specify USA? Because then it abbreviates to CPUSA. Coincidence? Recall the Reds are people who make connections between obscure items all the time. Were there any actual EPA federal employees there to help manage it?
Federal News Network, Several agencies end telework, remote work agreements and set return-to-office dates AFGE Council 238 President Marie Owens Powell says the EPA’s notice to employees is in violation of the union’s collective bargaining agreement. February 12, 2025 In part, "Several agencies are rescinding telework and remote work policies for their employees, following up on President Donald Trump’s mandate to send federal employees back to the office full time. The Environmental Protection Agency is rescinding telework and remote work agreements for its employees, and setting near-term targets for all staff to return to the office full-time. EPA’s Office of the Administrator, in an email obtained by Federal News Network, told its workers Wednesday that the agency “has determined that its employees’ duties require them to be face-to-face with their supervisors, colleagues, clients, and the public to the maximum extent possible.” The EPA said it’s rescinding all regular and remote work agreements, except for ..." Remember when we all thought Obama was the worst president ever?
Has Biden eclipsed him? Posted by Ace at 12:22 PM No, Biden has not eclipsed him, because he was never President. Obama was the shadow President behind the scenes with the rest of the Deep State the entire time. One could argue that the "Biden Administration" has been the worst of our lifetimes. But tough to say, considering most of the policies that were enacted during the "Biden Administration" were put in place during the radical transformation of the federal government and country during the Obama Administration. That radical transformation is what successfully undermined the first Trump Administration, rigged and stole the 2020 election and then setup the January 6th operation.
