Wednesday Morning Rant

Lies and Spin

In the wake of USAID's effective dissolution, the left has been hurling numerous arguments at the wall about why USAID is important, without ever discussing the real reason USAID is important. USAID is important because it's a slush fund for various transnational leftist causes and operations. Money goes in to USAID, where it is loaded onto helicopters and then dropped directly into the gaping maws of countless left-wing organizations and governments.

"YOU'RE TAKING AWAY OUR DIRTY MONEY WE USE TO SUBVERT ALL THAT IS GOOD AND RIGHT" is not a good argument, and people won't respond to it with anything other than demands for more of the same medicine. So instead, the propaganda and NGO complex keeps trying to find other reasons why USAID is important. They need it to play in Peoria. The spin is on full display. The recent example I've seen comes from Bill Gates.

Gates is lobbying hard to keep USAID because, per his assertion, "private philanthropy" cannot fill in the gaps left by USAID. They cannot step in to perform USAID's vital work.

Bill Gates has reportedly warned President Donald Trump's administration that his philanthropic endeavors are no replacement for the U.S. government's funding of global health care efforts.

The Microsoft cofounder turned billionaire philanthropist is petitioning the Trump administration to continue funding worldwide health programs, Reuters reported, citing two anonymous sources. Gates has met with legislators and the National Security Council about his concerns.

"Worldwide health programs" is a pretty big topic. What about specifics? Per the article, the WHO asserts that it's about tuberculosis, and that TB cannot be vanquished without USAID.
Public health experts fear the White House's USAID scrapping could have devastating global consequences, such as a rise in global malaria cases and deaths and the spread of HIV and tuberculosis (TB).

"Without immediate action, hard-won progress in the fight against TB is at risk," Dr. Tereza Kasaeva, director of the WHO's Global Programme on TB and Lung Health, said in a statement earlier this month.

So disaster. Poor people dying of TB because we dissolved USAID. How about some more detail not provided by the article in Fortune? Per the WHO itself in its statement about USAID:

... the United States government has provided approximately US$ 200--250 million annually in bilateral funding for the TB response at country level. This funding was approximately one quarter of the total amount of international donor funding for TB.

The 2025 funding cuts will have a devastating impact on TB programmes, particularly in LMICs that rely heavily on international aid, given the United States has been the largest bilateral donor. These cuts put 18 of the highest burden countries at risk, as they depended on 89% of the expected United States funding for TB care.

There's actually rather a lot to unpack in that. The US provides a quarter billion dollars a year to TB eradication efforts. That quarter billion represents about a quarter of total global funding for TB eradication (and by extension, 'The World" spends about a billion dollars a year on TB). Despite being a quarter of the total, US funding is the majority of funding for many countries due to how it is allocated.

The Fortune article about this doesn't mention those fairly low totals. It talks about the totals across the board - that USAID was costing about $45 billion per year, that the Gates Foundation spends about $9 billion per year, etc. - but not about TB. Not about the one thing they chose to focus on in the article. Well, we can put two and two together and find that it doesn't equal 45 billion.

TB is half a percent of USAID's outlays, and would represent less than 3% of the Gates Foundation's outlays, if it chose to focus on it. According to Newsweek, USAID was spending about $7 billion - or less that a quarter of its budget - on "health." Even assuming that "health" means what it says and is money well spent, that's less than the Gates Foundation's annual expenditure.

So it isn't about TB and it isn't about global health. If it were, outfits like the Gates Foundation and the WHO wouldn't be lobbying to maintain USAID. If it were about what they say it is about, they would be asking for money. "Hey, we really think that maintaining US involvement in global public health efforts is important. What can we do to convince to you continue funding our efforts via other mechanisms?" If it's a good idea, money well spent and the efforts are appealing to the American people, the US can find a couple of billion dollars. If it's a bad idea or money poorly spent or things not wanted by the American people , then it has no reason to. Yet this is what these organizations worldwide public and private have not asked. They have demanded that USAID be maintained, not requested money to plug gaps left by USAID's demise. That, or the reporting is disingenuous and false, and these outfits are asking for money as such but it's being spun as a demand for the continuation of USAID. Either way, that is what people used to call a "tell."

Whatever these people are after, it isn't eradicating tuberculosis and it isn't "public health." Public health is just marketing spin, a false premise to try to make it appeal to Americans who are fed up with corruption and fraud. These articles throw out big numbers without context, and never discuss specifics. That would defeat the purpose of building a false premise.

"Public health" doesn't need USAID. It may need US money, but it doesn't need USAID. There is a real, viable debate that we could be having about this. What is the US role in global public health? How much if any contribution is justified? How should it be managed and controlled and audited if we determine that it is justified? That debate is not happening, because that debate doesn't matter to anyone involved. With USAID's surviving operations - whatever they may be - being absorbed directly by State, so-called "public health" might actually survive.

The real goal of maintaining the USAID slush fund, however, will not. The real goal is not public health or disaster relief or anything else they claim. Those are the lies they tell in an attempt to con average Americans into supporting their nefarious scams.

The United States has spent 37 trillion dollars that WE DO NOT HAVE, largely to solve the problems of the world. Problems which, apparently, no one else can be bothered about. Problems which, despite all the money spent, have not been solved. We must, then, conclude that these problems are not solvable and withdraw our patronage.

Bill Gates Predicts 'What's At Stake' With Proposed Trump Foreign Aid Cuts
September 13, 2017

There's at least one thing Bill Gates and President Trump agree on: The media don't always get things right.

For Gates, the problem is with the foreign aid coverage.

"The nature of news is mostly to cover big setbacks," Gates says. "So if a little bit of money was spent improperly, that's what gets the news coverage, even though 99 percent of it was spent well."

This focus on failure leads to false impressions about the effectiveness of foreign aid, says Gates."

Add to this, a larger issue: "Public health" is a term worth unpacking. There's only really individual health, and the biggest thing the governments have done to improve that -- by far -- is providing clean water and sewerage treatment.

Under the rubric of 'public health,' the govt. numpties cram a WHOLE lot of controlling and managing and shackling the people. Very little of it helps individuals stay healthy.

Ergo, the Controlling and Managing are the real goal of 'public health.'

Partially true, but pretty much any antibiotic begins losing effectiveness as soon as it's used. The bacteria mutate and eventually develop resistance. I think the environmentalist movement has moved beyond being knee-jerk anti-nuclear.

That's more of a 70s attitude, and it stopped being an overriding factor sometime in the 90s, put on the backburner without attention.

By now? It's something like a base assumption without any emotion behind it except by the older people who formed their believes under the nuclear energy is all bad all the time media umbrella. So, it's easily changed for most people, especially since, "We have to do anything to stop global warming," is been the default top line of environmentalism for 20 years.

That would be better served by a contract of some kind, with a private hospital network or group of networks getting a grant to do a very specific project with very specific deliverables, and severe penalties for neglecting the project or hinky accounting.

There is an 'animal sanctuary' charity near me. They started out by taking in wolves and wolf hybrids that idiots had tried to have as pets, then morphed into taking in bears, and big cats from roadside private zoos. Now they ARE a private zoo, they charge up the wazoo to come and look at their critters and they own all kinds of land, have a super fancy air conditioned trailer to go fetch critters when zoo or circus is forced to stop displaying tigers or lions etc. They do have very nice, roomy enclosures for their critters and they have birth control so none of their critters is breeding. But so do some of the zoo's that the 'sanctuary' criticizes.

Instead of poisoning the bugs, it bollixes up the absorbtion of glucose in most of them, which is a fundamental metabolic pathway, and the parasites starve to death. Food is a bit more tricky, since our government policy since the Dust Bowl has been to subsidize farms to overproduce so that we as a country don't all starve to death if there is a bad crop year.

Then we have too much food, so we dump it on the third world as "charity" in order to keep prices from from dropping from oversupply of food at home.

Of course, that charity means that local farmers in the third world can't compete with free food, and it keeps them in a cycle of dependency. Which is an added benefit for our deep state.

I think we'll find that all of our prominent / famous billionaires are up to their eyeballs in CIA / USAID shenanigans.

Look at how much CIA / USAID money went to the Soros NGO network. Obviously he's working with (or for) the Deep State.

Makes sense to use someone like Soros as an unofficial arm of the Deep State, since there is plausible deniability about the funding coming from the US treasury.

If you read about the setting up of USAID under Kennedy, the arguments all make perfect sense on paper. Basically, they said what you're saying. "We spent a million dollars to project soft power to keep despots in charge of their countries, and their people there. This is much cheaper and safer than using covert ops to accomplish the same goal."

The problem is -- we can't trust anyone in our government to run any of these programs honestly. They simply don't do it. Maybe in other countries, it's possible, but it's not here.

USAID exploded from a small soft power CIA / State Department (which at the time was basically controlled by the CIA) slush fund to ... what it is today in about 3 years.

See the F.B.I. post Church Committee. Leftists used to hate the F.B.I.

My thesis on the CIA and their L.S.D. experiments in the early 1950s, was they deployed it first on the scientists and psychologists, then on federal prisoners, military, and unsuspecting college folks. By the early 1960s they were deploying it on California. It tends to break down people’s beliefs, and also highly suggestible, and more easily hypnotized, among other things. Couple with a huge dose of propaganda, it was an effective weapon against the very large demographic that was the “baby boom”.

The origin story of MKUltra makes no sense. They claimed that the Koreans had mind controlled American POW's to make anti-American videos. And to keep up with the North Korean mind control program, we need to develop our own.

Of course, I doubt anyone actually thought North Korea had perfected some crazy mind control experiment. As became clear as soon as those soldiers came home, Norks used techniques as old as time to get American soldiers to film those videos -- sleep deprivation, light torture, threats, promises, etc.

And yet MKUltra marched on.

In 1998 net official foreign aid to Eritrea was US$135.8 million; in 2002 it reached US$217.6 million. In 2005 the country stopped accepting foreign aid.[1][2] The government of Eritrea prefers private-sector investment to official aid programs, and its relations with aid-dispensing nations and international institutions have often been difficult.[2]
