OT sry BUT:
“Yesterday afternoon a Member of Congress (Corey I'm Spartacus Booker) led an IDed staff member around security screening at the Hart Senate Office Building,” USCP said in a statement. “Later that evening, outside the Senate Galleries, the IDed staff member — who is a retired law enforcement officer — told our officers he was armed.” Booker’s staff member, Kevin A. Batts, was arrested Monday evening for carrying a pistol on Capitol grounds moments before Booker began an all-night speech on the Senate floor protesting President Donald Trump’s America First agenda, NOTUS reported. A NOTUS reporter witnessed the staffer, Kevin A. Batts, being arrested Monday at 6:29 p.m. Eastern as Booker prepared to begin his speech around 7:00. “He was handcuffed and placed in the backseat of a [U.S. Capitol Police (USCP)] vehicle outside the Senate-side of the Capitol,” according to that report. Posted by: brak at April 01, 2025 03:40 PM (jGJov) 50
I think this a case of conservatives prioritizing being right over winning political battles.
There ought to be uniform standard for all military jobs. If you have separate male and female standards for any job, you're implicitly claiming the standards are immaterial for that job or you're cutting women a break they're not in fairness entitled to. Doing this for combat arms alone, will more or less exclude women from these roles. So we keep the untenable situation where men are responsible for war fighting, while women still get a say in what wars are fought. And justifying this on the basis that it's what is best for winning wars is sensible enough, except that we aren't committed to winning any politically and will remain committed to our insane politics unless or until the threat is existential (and maybe even afterward given how crazy things have become). Either women are equals who have to bear all the same burdens, or they're not. Any other approach just codified the double standards the left has created over the last several decades. I understand this is a cranky take, but I don't see this as winning anything. Posted by: bear with asymmetrical balls at April 01, 2025 03:40 PM (2wadn) 51

Several years ago now, the Army replaced the old fitness test (APFT) with a new test (ACFT). At first, it was going to have universal standards men and women had to meet, and higher scores were required for more combat-focused positions.
But, women kept having trouble passing the (lowered) standard. And one event (hanging leg tuck) had a very high failure rate with females. So, they made gender based scoring, and let people do a plank event as a temporary alternative to the hanging event. Senator Gillibrand kept hassling the military to pause and delay full implementation of the ACFT, and they finally removed kept the gender and age based scoring, removed the higher score requirements for combat positions, and fully implemented the plank event instead of the hanging leg tuck. And when we go back to the Roman Empire ? When being able to "run" matters ? Then I guess we reward those who run. As they do their best to take a message. There are a couple of ways theyve done it in the past. All of them involve not really allowing anyone to question the questions. 1. The testing is not designed for real-world conditions in a modern military. It is designed solely to exclude women and minorities. If you ask for details, you are racist. 2. If everyone were to fail the test, we would find a way to let more people in. Whatever that solution is, implement it now. Pointing out that everyone is not failing the test is sexist. Probably racist too. Posted by: Stephen Price Blair at April 01, 2025 03:57 PM (fHkAy) 129

It's the humping bodies, dragging 150 lbs packs, etc. that women just can't do. So, no foxhole duty, I should think. Hell, even Dr. Ruth could snipe. Posted by: tcn in AK at April 01, 2025 04:00 PM (LweC0) There is actually a physiological reason for this. Females natural resonance is lower than that of a males. As an example of my argument 2, here is a quote from an old professor of mine, Sandra Ben, in her book The Lenses of Gender:
Imagine a community of short people [if] short people cannot be firefighters because they are neither tall enough nor strong enough to do the job Would all the houses eventually burn down? Well, yes, if we short people had to use the heavy ladders and hoses designed by and for tall people. But no, if we (being as smart as short people are) could instead construct lighter ladders and hoses that both tall and short people could use. The moral here should be obvious: shortness isnt the problem; the problem lies in forcing short to function in a tall-centered social structure. She ignores that equipment is heavy because it is a compromise between saving lives and using the equipment. Heavier hoses could deliver more water at higher pressure and penetrate further into a fire. Heavier ladders could hold more firefighters or outfit them with heavier protective suits and equipment allowing them to save more lives. New technology may change where we make this compromise, but will not change the equation. Posted by: Stephen Price Blair at April 01, 2025 04:05 PM (fHkAy) 174

We'll soon have a very large-scale study about whether it's true that there is no difference in the physical abilities of men and women, as the leftists and Trans Cultists insist.
Israelis already did one over the last 50 years. They were pretty motivated to find that they could use women soldiers given their being surrounded and outnumbered. They still failed. Women on just regular route marches in semi rough ground with full packs tended to get large numbers of joint injuries that required hospitalization - ankle knee hip. The lighter build of women just could not take the strain. Posted by: Oldcat at April 01, 2025 04:05 PM (n7h9X) 176

I don't want ANY women to be front-line combat troops. (And I say this while acknowledging that every single 'ette I have seen shoot is a better shot than I am.)
The reasoning for this is simple. I have done sports many times when it was only males in the venue. Once the cheerleaders walked in to practice on the other side of the gym, the game changed abruptly. Much more individual play and showing off than team play. Much more trash talking, many more fights. A combat unit of men must be completely focused on the common enemy they are fighting. Men are Morons, and once there are females present when males are in high stress, high testosterone situations, then the men will start competing with each other for females. At that point, unit cohesion is gone. If we must have female combat troops, I think they should be in all female units. Greatly lessens the odds of the men losing their focus and 130# females can more easily drag an injured 130# female to safety compared to dragging a 250# male. The White House
Office of the Press Secretary For Immediate Release January 24, 2013 Statement by the President on the Opening of Combat Units to Women Today, by moving to open more military positions—including ground combat units—to women, our armed forces have taken another historic step toward harnessing the talents and skills of all our citizens. This milestone reflects the courageous and patriotic service of women through more than two centuries of American history and the indispensable role of women in today’s military. Many have made the ultimate sacrifice, including more than 150 women who have given their lives in Iraq and Afghanistan—patriots whose sacrifices show that valor knows no gender. Earlier today I called Secretary of Defense Panetta to express my strong support for this decision, which will strengthen our military, enhance our readiness, and be another step toward fulfilling our nation’s founding ideals of fairness and equality. I congratulate our military, including the Joint Chiefs of Staff, for the rigor that they have brought to this process. --- There's more but you have the idea. Back in the day, the Marine Corps pft was 3 mile run- max points for 6 min miles, automatic failure at over 28 mins for 18-24 years old, pull ups, max points for 20, auto failure for fewer than 3, and sit ups, max points for 80 in 2 minutes, don’t remember minimum for auto failure. I’m 56 and can still max out 2 of 3 events and maintain 8 minute miles for a “first class” pft score for an 18-24 years old Marine.

Since by 43 most of their supplies were coming from the US they could draft almost their entire male population and did. Does equity demand we invent a shrink ray? Youre not thinking like a Leftist. You would first be ridiculed for not realizing that in a world where everyone was shorter, fat people would weight proportionately less. Before you could respond, they would then move the conversation on to the exist of weight standards, the bad nutritional habits encouraged by the patriarchy, and the necessity of government bureaucracies to education, inform, and assist the development of healthy eating. I’ll be honest: the fitness standards of the military don’t matter. The Pentagon will continue to waste trillions of dollars either way, and it’s not like we’re going to win our next war.
The military is a giant grift machine, right down to the men and women in uniform, defending “our democracy”. (Odd that that almost never involves defending our own borders or stopping communist takeover of America, but rather means fighting the MIC’s police actions in shitholeistan while soft-handed faggots like Lindsey Graham sit at home accumulating wealth and catamites.) _______________ I made that point to a female chem grad student re controlling the dog population in Berkeley. She was pissed that efforts focused on the bitches (!), rather than the males. I made your point that reproduction is first-order in females (doubling the number of them doubles the birth rate) but zeroth-order in males (doubling the number of them makes no difference to the birth rate). I am not sure anyone here was in a 'mass shooting' unless it was in combat and that just doesn't count
Posted by: Skip at April 01, 2025 04:20 PM (ypFCm) BY the standards used in that bullshit "study", if you have ever gone to the range, you participated in a mass shooting. Posted by: Alberta Oil Peon at April 01, 2025 04:42 PM (8zz6B) In college there were a lot of these questionaries. I sometimes would amuse my self seeing what score a teetotaler would get to their 'anti drink' quiz. Usually pretty high because of their sloppy writing. Yes, but the Germans killed 7 or 8 Russians for every one of their own, and about 1.5 western allies for each German.
Posted by: Biff Pocoroba at April 01, 2025 04:42 PM (rWTXa) That's not how you score wars, so it isn't relevant. Posted by: Oldcat at April 01, 2025 04:44 PM (n7h9X) _____________ See also the Electoral College. Posted by: Deplorable Jay Guevara at April 01, 2025 04:49 PM (YqDXo) 377
Yes. And the Soviets killed the most Germans and won.
I thought Germans killed the most Germans. Posted by: t-bird at April 01, 2025 04:51 PM (L3CGb) 378
Footnote: The NYC Fire Department (over the vociferous objections of the rank and file) tried hard to recruit women and minorities, even though those groups were generally profoundly uninterested in the department.
To get past the physical requirements for probies, they made the tests wimpy enough for females to pass, applied the wimp tests to all, then announced loudly that the standards and tests for both sexes ARE THE SAME, you guys! Thank heaven the fireMEN had the pride and good sense to keep to their own standards of fitness (and they took to calling the females, not firefighters, but "firewatchers"). But the FDNY made a tiny blonde gal the Chief of Department (rumor has it that she'd had affairs with a couple of firemen; well, at least she's straight). She'd never fought a fire, needless to say. Went in the army circa 1979.
They had already started the "all women can do anything men can do" malarkey. OC it's BS, not even all men can do whatever men can do. In my BT company, the drill sgts had been instructed that the ladies (one of the first mixed training companies, 1/4 female) WILL pass the physical requirements to graduate Basic. They already had slightly lower targets for female or older soldiers - but it was ludicrous. The 3 mile run the ladies got to run in place for X minutes rather than do an actual 3 mile run. If you had a common set of physical fitness standards for combat positions, the standards were not deliberately gutted, and the standards were implemented with thoroughness and integrity, the smart money says that somewhere between 0% and 4% of those meeting standards would be female.
