BOING!
Busy today. If you want to realize how awful Netanyahu is, it took him ages to fire Israel's corrupt and progressive chief of the General Security Service (GSS, i.e., Shin-Bet). Yesterday he hired a replacement who was just the same. After enough people went public and screamed about this madness, today Netanyahu dropped the new candidate. Either Netanyahu has no idea what he's doing, or he's corrupt, or he's compromised. Take your pick! https://tinyurl.com/bdcvhdmr Posted by: Biden's Dog sniffs a whole lotta malarkey, at April 01, 2025 04:00 AM (ky0NK) 3

Skip: I've been following along with the trials and tribulations of you swapping routers and attempting to set up a mesh network in your house with a newly purchased router at the head of it.
If there's a name to the mesh that all the devices recognize, maybe use a new name for the mesh on the new router, so that none of the devices are hanging on to credentials (tokens, etc...) from the old mesh name and attempting to use those to authenticate to the new router? Just a stab in the dark, but I thought I'd mention it in case it helps. Grumpy that was my thinking to reconnect old router since everything worked fine then. It's connecting to mesh router that's impossible. No mesh router found I get from the app

Posted by: Colin But..!!! This is all new, and computery, and shiny... Posted by: Bruce at April 01, 2025 04:14 AM (kcNOc) I just had a thought: AI is like annoying cocktail people or college discussion retards. Parroting phrases and concepts they heard somewhere else, but not understanding them or how they connect to anything else. But it makes them 'look' smart. Knowledge is only useful when you 'get' it and see how it connects to everything else. And 'AI', by definition, cannot 'get' it. There is no intelligence in the artificial. I remember the whole dot.com explosion and the dot.bomb implosion as claims were being made about the "new economy" and how the old economic rules didn't apply anymore.
Meanwhile, the old economic rules hadn't been suspended, it just took a few months for the old economy to go fetch a decently sized clue-by-four to smash these idjits upside the head with. The smashing was very satisfying to watch. Posted by: Grumpy and Recalcitrant at April 01, 2025 04:51 AM (O7YUW) 18

A note on "Baby, It's Cold Outside" - the song was written by Broadway songwriter Frank (Guys and Dolls, Greenwillow) Loesser as a party piece for him and his wife* to perform. When he sold the song to MGM for 1949s Neptune's Daughter (the source of the clip above), she was furious at him cashing in on "our song," and compared it to finding him in bed with another woman. *Lynn Garland, known to his friends as "the evil of two Loessers." Oh, absolutely. They're welcome to try but there's always these three things waiting to cudgel some sense into the producers: 1) Anticompetitive legislation. 2) A majority of the market's customers refusing to buy at the higher price. 3) One lone producer breaks with the pack and tries to grab market share through lowering its prices, shattering the agreement. Israel War Room @IsraelWarRoom 1h Overnight, with the direction of the ISA, the IAF struck and eliminated the terrorist Hassan Ali Mahmoud Bdeir, a terrorist in Hezbollah's Unit 3900 and the Iranian Quds Force, in the Dahieh area, a key stronghold of the Hezbollah terrorist organization. Bdeir recently operated in cooperation with the Hamas terrorist organization, directed Hamas terrorists, and assisted them in planning and advancing a significant and imminent terror attack against Israeli civilians. "Industrial air fryer? Probably a leg at the time. I'm not sure about the butt.
Posted by: Ciampino " The manner in which this is done is as follows:—A party, provided with sharp-pointed sticks, dig a hole in the ground for each foot and a portion of the trunk. These holes are about two feet deep and a yard in width; the excavated earth is embanked around the margin of the holes. This work being completed, they next collect an immense quantity of dry branches and trunks of trees, of which there is always a profusion scattered around, having been broken by the elephants in former years. (Cont) Posted by: fd at April 01, 2025 06:59 AM (vFG9F) 96
These they pile above the holes to the height of eight or nine feet, and then set fire to the heap. When these strong fires have burnt down, and the whole of the wood is reduced to ashes, the holes and the surrounding earth are heated to a high degree. Ten or twelve men then stand round the pit and take out the ashes with a pole about sixteen feet in length, having a hook at the end. They relieve one another in quick succession, each man running in and raking the ashes for a few seconds, and then pitching the pole to his comrade, and retreating, since the heat is so intense that it is scarcely to be endured

When all the ashes are thus raked out beyond the surrounding bank of earth, each elephant’s foot and portion of the trunk is lifted by two athletic men, standing side by side, who place it on their shoulders, and, approaching the pit together, they heave it into it. The long pole is now again resumed, and with it they shove in the heated bank of earth upon the foot, shoving and raking until it is completely buried in the earth. The hot embers, of which there is always a great supply, are then raked into a heap above the foot, and another bonfire is kindled over each, which is allowed to burn down and die a natural death; by which time the enormous foot or trunk will be found to be equally baked throughout its inmost parts.
Posted by: fd at April 01, 2025 07:00 AM (vFG9F) 99
When the foot is supposed to be ready, it is taken out of the ground with pointed sticks, and is first well beaten, and then scraped with an assagai, whereby adhering particles of sand are got rid of. The outside is then pared off, and it is transfixed with a sharp stake for facility of carriage. The feet thus cooked are excellent, as is also the trunk, which very much resembles buffalo’s tongue.’

Elon Musk really did screw up with this Ashley St. Clair woman.
Dates her for a few months, and she gets pregnant. Elon visits with her and the child a few times after he was born, but for whatever reason Elon and Ashley aren’t working out. So Elon gives her $2.5 million in cash, and $500,000 a year as long as she keeps her mouth shut and doesn’t make it a spectacle. Apparently that’s not enough for Ashely in “child support.” She is a conservative influencer who has written a book or two, so she has some cash flow on her own. St. Clair lives in a doorman apartment building in Manhattan. But because Elon is mad at her for the way she went about announcing to the world he’s the father of her second child, he cuts the money in half. So this woman, obviously, calls up the Daily Mail, to let them know she was going to be at Carvana at a certain time to sell her $100k Tesla Model S, that I guarantee you cost her nothing, because “she can’t afford to keep it after Elon cut her child support in half.” Elon should have seen this coming from a mile away. Microsoft uses AI to find flaws in GRUB2, U-Boot, Barebox bootloaders
Microsoft used its AI-powered Security Copilot to discover 20 previously unknown vulnerabilities in the GRUB2, U-Boot, and Barebox open-source bootloaders. GRUB2 (GRand Unified Bootloader) is the default boot loader for most Linux distributions, including Ubuntu, while U-Boot and Barebox are commonly used in embedded and IoT devices. Microsoft discovered eleven vulnerabilities in GRUB2, including integer and buffer overflows in filesystem parsers, command flaws, and a side-channel in cryptographic comparison. Additionally, 9 buffer overflows in parsing SquashFS, EXT4, CramFS, JFFS2, and symlinks were discovered in U-Boot and Barebox, which require physical access to exploit.
