DC’s cherry blossoms reach peak bloom

Howdy Hordelings! Hope you are having a very nice Sunday here in the early days of Spring. How are your brackets? Did you make sixteen sweet picks? Or perhaps you really just don't care. Whatever your feelings on that, the ONT is here for you to end your weekend. Step on in!

Woman Poisons Coworker’s Drinks for Months Out of Pure Malice

A 56-year-old Polish woman was arrested and charged with systematically adding toxic substances to a coworker’s drinks simply because she disliked them.

It’s unclear when the unnamed cleaning woman started poisoning her colleague, but the 51-year-old victim started feeling seriously under the weather a few months ago. At first, she thought her stomach pain was caused by stress and working too much, but as her symptoms worsened, the woman, whose name has not been revealed for privacy reasons, went to the hospital for a checkup. Doctors there told her that she showed signs of internal injuries similar to those caused by toxic substances and asked if she had been ingesting something that she wasn’t supposed to. She hadn’t, but the question reminded her of the weird taste she had felt when drinking her morning cup of tea at work.

The 51-year-old victim worked at an office building in Warsaw with a number of other women employed by the same cleaning company. She had had some arguments with them over the years, but never imagined some of them would go as far as to try to poison her. Nevertheless, she went to a local police station to report her suspicions, but she was told that nothing could be done based solely on her hunches and that she needed to provide some solid evidence.

***

Warsaw police have yet to reveal the reason behind the systematic poisoning, but according to sources quoted by Polish media, the two older women simply did not like the victim, who apparently had a slightly higher position at the company they worked for, and wanted to get rid of her somehow. “The women simply did not like each other,” the anonymous informant told Onet Warsaw.

The woman caught on camera poisoning her coworker’s drinks risks spending up to 20 years behind bars, while her older colleague faces 3 years in prison for failing to alert the authorities about the crime.

Read the whole thing. And keep your head on a swivel at work!

It's time to turn the ONT over to our good friend Piper for a bit. Here's this week's fashion pr0n.

Ode to the Pantsuit

Can a pantsuit be good? Yes, it can be very good.

Melania is wearing Ralph Lauren, its stretch Camel Hair and its fabulous. You can take something masculine and make it look utterly feminine with the right cut and tailoring. Melania’s suit fits from her shoulders down, there is no “hitching up” from bad shoulder pads, the pants have a subtle flair and fall exactly where they should on the leg. The shoes are, of course, on point. Manolo Blahnik fans, here is your moment in her suede BB point toe neutral pump. The blazer is Polo Ralph Lauren Jena stretch Camel Hair, from 2021. The vest is Polo Ralph Lauren Jaiden stretch Camel Hair, from 2021. The pants are Polo Ralph Lauren Seth stretch Camel Hair, from 2021.

IMG_3566r.jpg

Can pantsuits be bad? They can be horrid. This is not good from the Queen of the pantsuit herself– and I don’t mean because of differences in body styles, either. You don’t need to be a model to have a pantsuit fit well. I am not sure who this suit is by, but the shoulder pads are not tailored, hence the weird bunching. The jacket is too wide at the waist, doing the opposite of camouflaging a problem area. The pants are too long for the cut, which I believe is supposed to be a skinny leg, or maybe a straight leg that doesn’t fit well. While you can wear a black shoe with anything, sometimes you should ask if there couldn’t be a better option. This was a missed opportunity for a pop of color.

IMG_3695r.jpg

Before I am accused of transferring my dislike of Hillary herself onto her clothes, here is an example of where Kamala got the pantsuit right -almost. This is a bright pink suit by Sergio Hudson with a dramatic flared leg that is exactly the right length for this cut. The jacket, while not fitted as you might expect against such a wide leg, is pulled in at the waist so it doesn’t come across as boxy. The look could have benefited from a blouse that wasn’t fighting for boldness against the pink of the suit. Since that was the choice, adding a metallic shoe really was a lot.

IMG_3696r.jpg

Does the pantsuit have a history? Of course it does even back to the 40’s. This isn’t a designer piece, but it is cute!

IMG_3697r.jpg

Yves Saint Laurent had iconic pantsuits in the 70’s. This is how pleated pants are done!

IMG_3698r.jpg

IMG_3699r.jpg

When done correctly, pantsuits are feminine and powerful all at the same time. If doubt remains, just look at Melania’s official portrait to dispose of it once and for all.

Thanks, Piper!

DJ Doof - This Day in History Version
(from thisdayinmusic.com)

2020: American soul singer Bill Withers died from heart complications aged 81. His hits include 'Just The Two Of Us', 'Lovely Day' and 'Use Me'. On 'Lovely Day', he set the record for the longest sustained note on a US chart hit, holding a high E for 18 seconds. His ballad 'Ain't No Sunshine', earned him his first Grammy award.

Born on this date in 1990: Thomas Rhett, American country music singer, the son of singer-songwriter Rhett Akins. His third single, 'It Goes Like This' topped the Country Airplay chart and also peaked at No.2 on the Hot Country Songs. His 2015 single 'Die a Happy Man' topped the country charts for 16 weeks.

1987: Prince released his ninth studio album Sign o' the Times which produced three top-ten hit singles, 'If I Was Your Girlfriend', 'U Got the Look', (with Sheena Easton) and the title track 'Sign o' the Times. In 1989, Time Out magazine ranked it as the greatest album of all time.

Also celebrating a birthday today is Stanley Kirk Burrell, who was born in 1962.
Name doesn't ring a bell? Perhaps because you know him by his stage name. Wanna take a guess? C'mon - take a swing at it. See if you can hit the nail on the head before getting the answer here.

26 I submitted my DILs plight to a prayer group from church last week. Today, my DIL called to say one of the old ladies sent her a message to let her know that said old lady was a preemie when she was born in 1930. Her mother kept her in a shoebox near the coal stove for warmth and she's had a very healthy life without incident (outliving three husbands notwithstanding).

Further, surely medical science has advanced in those 95 years so try not to worry too much - things will work out.

Those old ladies are tough 'ole birds.

78 Cherry trees are also in full bloom in the Quad at the University of Washington.

When I was a student, we would go and sit and read or study or get really high and hang out under the trees. When the wind blows, it looks like it’s snowing pink fluffy snowflakes.

Now, too many tourists show up and crowd out the students and take too many pictures and leave garbage everywhere.

136 Richard Chamberlain father was Charles Axiom Chamberlain
Charles was born in Indiana, no town name is provided.
Charles parents were:
William Overman Chamberlain b. 1873 in Campbellsburg Indiana. Died 1951 in Bloomfield, Indiana.
Cora Whitworth Chamberlain b. 1878 in Koleen, Indiana (tiny town near Bloomfield). Died 1975 in Bedford, Indiana. Both are buried in Walnut Grove cemetery near Bloomfield Indiana. They lived in Bloomfield for 30 years.
Bloomfield Indiana is roughly 7 miles from my house. People have commented that their parent saw and recognized Richard Chamberlain in Bloomfield many years ago. I would presume he did attend his grandparents funerals. It's said that he was very nice and quite charming.

Bloomfield is also the home of the Shawnee Summer Theater. Both Ken Kerchival and John Belushi spent a summer working there. I'm not finding any mention of Richard Chamberlain ever working there. That would have been cool if he came here for a funeral and did a play at the theater. Alas, it wasn't meant to be. Both of his grandparents died after the summer theater season ended.

NY State dealerships will go out of business. So the next brilliant move by Hochul and NY Democrats will have to be a requirement that 35% of all new cars registered in NY by the end of the year must be EVs. So smart NY residents can't go buy an ICE vehicle in New Jersey or other states and bring them to NY. The EV madness in blue states will continue until I don't know when.

ScaryMary,

Thanks for remembering the health scare we had with the grandchildren. The two year old was in the hospital for a week and the four year old also had RSV.

We live in remote Wyoming, which we love, but to get hospital care you have to go to Utah, which is a two hour drive. Hubby and I had the two grandsons for a week whilst son and daughter-in-law were in Utah with the 2 y/o. They had the 4 y/o granddaughter with them and we had the two grandsons with us for the week.

They get home and the 4 y/o came down with RSV and needed to be on oxygen for a week.

Everyone now is doing well.

I have always hated that rat faced mother fucker, FAUCI, and my hate only deepens with the illnesses the grandchildren suffer from now.

I blame the killer shot son and daughter in law had to take when she was pregnant with the third grandchildren. They were not allowed to go to the doctors office and the hospital until they were forced to take the killler shot.

Physical gold is leaving Europe for NY. The last I heard rumored was that the London banks were not selling physical gold at spot, they are selling it only for future delivery.
Martin Armstrong thinks this is a prelude to war in Europe, since hard money flees wars and wartime governments
other people think Europe is unable to fight a war anytime in the next 5 years unless they buy arms from the US or Russia. Or possibly from Ukraine.

A certain creatin by the name BARRACK OBAMA pushed this country to where we are now.

Those that know, understand that we must "FIX" the damage he did.

And it might come to whatever means are needed to crush the Marxist/Socialist construct still evident in this Republic.

Posted by: 13times at March 31, 2025 12:00 AM (R7LoX)

Trump needs to put a stop to that shit.

I'd like to a see a "Small Mines Enabling Act", or else an EO to the same effect:
1. A "shall issue" policy for mining permits if the size of the operation will not exceed 25 tons per day, or 5000 tons per year. Permit includes right to mine, operate a mill on site, and build a single-lane 4X4 road to the site from an existing road.

2. For the purposes of this permit, "milling" will include screening, washing (dry or wet), crushing, grinding, and various forms of gravity separation. Flotation with known safe flotation agents may be included. No mercury, no cyanide.

This could put a lot of small operations into, or back into, business, and make work for equipment suppliers, outfitters, dynamite dealers, and other service industries.

I don't disagree that's how it was. But when has the concept of an out of control permanent government ever been talked about since Ike or maybe since JFK was murdered, ahem, and more importantly when has any president actually fought and won against it?

USAID was officially dissolved this week. The Department of Education is next. And we are less than 3 months into this administration. There is so much gutting of the permanent government going on it appears it is no longer permanent. The left's also permanent and paid protest movement isn't burning Telsas because they are winning. They are losing. YUGE.

I have been reliably told for decades the ratchet only goes one way. Seems like the ratchet has slipped a few cogs.

It was the time when Fourier transform instrumentation was beginning to grow in availability. I now wonder whether, had such been the case for the measurement methods I used, having such an instrument might have rendered the time spent making measurements less of a grind.

I am babbling about this only because I came across a couple of partially filled notebooks today with notes from times that I did scientific research. These were "side" notebooks and not the official notebooks that I had to surrender when I left wherever I had been working at that time.

For about half of the notes that I had made back then -- some as far back as forty years ago -- I could not put them in context. As in, "That looks interesting. I wonder why I was making inquiries about fhat topic?" And now I am at a complete loss as to what I might have been thinking.
