Doctors across the US are reporting an alarming health trend in the wake of the Covid pandemic.
Since about 2021, they have been noticing rare and unusual cancers in patients who shouldn't fit the bill - many of them young and without any family history of disease.

I saw a similar "hold my beer" moment after one of my maples was hit by lightning. The "monkey-man" went up the remaining trunk with a chainsaw tied to his waist, pulled a ladder up, put it in the crook of a branch, and extended it past the burnt area to reach the more-or-less intact top and cut it down.
I couldn't watch most of the process because it set my teeth on edge.
It's my Last night of vacation. I did absolutely nothing, which was the whole point.

I have seen those in action. The normal method of starting a Field Marshal was by hand cranking. They had a big flywheel on the side with a flip-out handle knob. The rim of the flywheel had a spiral groove in it that had about six turns on it. You picked up a little lever with a small wheel on the end of it, and placed the wheel in the groove nearest to you. This was the compression release. With the lever engaged in the groove, the engine was (relatively) easy to turn by hand. So you engaged the compression release, cranked the engine, increasing speed with each turn, until the wheel fell out of the groove, and the engine started. I tried it, and it worked.

Under extreme blackmail/duress - Daughter #1 was pregnant with our first grandchild and she and SIL told us that we would not be able to be around him if we didn't get the shot.
So we got the J&J shot - I wasn't going to get the mRNA in my body.
Then they said we had to get the booster if we wanted to see the grandbaby.
So we got another J&J shot.
WE were the bad guys for not wanting to get the shot in the first place.

An alternative might be to launch weighted nets at the incoming swarm, to pull them to the ground. I don't keep up with drones, so I don't know whether electrifying the net would help.

Why did they refuse? Because the commanders of the two brigades were brothers in law, and had hated each other for years, both refusing to even speak to each other, ever. What I find appealing about it is that Peter O’Toole is just as over the top as she is, and there’s every indication that the original Henry and Eleanore were every bit as over the top as that portrayal of them. BT devices can only connect to one thing at a time. And most of them are temperamental at best about connection switching, Apple’s fixed that for the case where they make everything involved (pause YouTube on the Mac and hit play on Spotify on an iPad and the AirPods seamlessly switch) but the BT standards body hasn’t seen fit to make capability like that standard.

The “mid Atlantic accent” was required in the early early days of cinema and radio. Especially female roles. Super annoying. Anyone trying to imitate a southern accent is also really bad. A variant is the dumb hillbilly. The New York twang is also pretty grating - Gracie Allen kind of thing, on steroids . Nobody talks like that any longer, seems like the Boston accent is no more. According to Flashman, the charge went after its actual destination, as opposed to the one it was supposed to, was because he pointed to the battery objective and said "That way!" Cardigan then misread the direction and took him to mean directly down the valley, not at the battery on the side. Old Flashy got his comeuppance for it by being forced to go on the charge by Cardigan, and joined the action against his will.

I look really good with red/auburn hair! I always thought I would look good in that color, but I was always too afraid to dye my hair in case I didn't like the color.
I did find a color that looks really good on me; now I have to find a length/style that works - what looks good on a mannequin head doesn't necessarily work on my tiny little noggin!

My Ex was working a year-end fund raiser at the Reagan Library in 2019. A couple of weeks later she got deathly ill. Little tried to convince her to go to the ER, but she shared my dim view of modern medicine and that probably saved her life. Anyway, after about three weeks and severe hair loss, she began to recover. By then, the first COVID case in the US was announced somewhere in Washington. Yeah. Right.

This will be the 3rd time for Paul and me to see it - Rebecca has actually seen it before, but she was too young to remember it. Both times we were in balcony seats.
The first time we saw it, I had bought seats to take our middle 2 girls to see it, but they were invited to a murder mystery birthday party for one of their friends, and they were crushed that they were going to miss it (they were about 9 or 10 at the time; Rebecca hadn't been born yet). So we treated 2 friends to their tickets who wouldn't have been able to afford them, and we all had a grand time.
The second time we saw it, it was playing in San Antonio and coincided with our annual Christmas trip to visit family, so the 2 middle girls had no choice. I went to a lot of drive-in movies as a pre-schooler. Have no real memory except they had a playground up in front of the screen (it didn't hinder viewing). So kids could play until it got dark enough to see the movie in the summer, 9 o'clockish. The kids got tuckered out even before the movie lulled us to sleep.

I bought a 69 dollar WalMart battery to replace the dead auxiliary battery in my Suburban. Has a one-year warranty. Unless your hubby's car takes an unusual size of battery, you should be able to get one for about that price at WM. And if you are selling the car, why spend more?

Incidentally, if you are passing through Utah on I-15, and want to avoid the horrendous traffic on the Salt Lake to Payson stretch, there is a string of backroads that connect Toole in the north with Holden in the south. 36 from Tooele to Eureka, 6 from Eureka to Delta, and 50 from Delta to Holden. There is a road from Fillmore to Delta, too. Basically parallels the I-15 alignment, on the other side of the Uinta mountain range. Lonely two-lane blacktop, and you can make good time. Very scenic, too.

Hey!. That lake is a fright. I think 1700 feet deep.
Sub testing at the south end. The east side mountains are truly no man's land. Sheer cliffs. Virtually uninhabited. Black out at night.
Went on a couple of search/rescue ops in that area both at night. One was a poor drug addled young gal who met up with a stranger who took her to a remote cabin on the far east side. Never found her until a year later. Murdered but a bear digested the remains. Thats what was found.
Other one was a hunter. Just plumb walked off a cliff and fell 1000 feet down. Landed at the shoreline. That ended up a boat recovery. No way down from the top. Well, one way, I guess.
Don't like that area much.

Sheer thousand-foot cliffs, plus a 1700 foot deep lake sounds like terrain created by faulting. I remember there was an earthquake there, mid-1970's. Did a road trip through there with my father in late 1976, I think it was, and south of there we could see a fresh fault scarp on the east side of the basin. Basin and range country; that's how they form.

Of you ever read stories about the glacial period and lake Missoula, which covered from western Montana to Spokane, it's a real eye opener. J Harlan Betz was an early 30s geologist that came up with the theory that a large lake covered the region. All the lakes around here are remnants of that huge sea.
He postulated that ice dams routinely built up and broke apart toward the end of the ice age, and every time they broke apart, the water scoured the earth with incredible torrents that carved out the eastern Washington basin and created what's now callled the channeled scab lands.
He mapped it all over the course of his career, his theory was scoffed at. In 1976, they (NASA. I forget) got the first satellite view of the area from space. His hand mapping was nearly identical to the photos. He was subsequently awarded highest honors by the royal geological society of London.
Lake Missoula is considered fact.

Their automotive department is limited is scope, but they usually beat all the others on the price of oil, and batteries. And one other thing they have, a real el-cheapo car stereo. Dual, a zombie brand from Chy-nah, makes this little car stereo receiver, no tape transport, no CD transport, but AM-FM, Bluetooth, and USB, 4 channels. For under 30 bucks. I have bought 4 of them now. They work great. Only 2 inches deep, and weigh a few ounces, so they don't need massive mounting supports. Mostly, I use them to play music mp3"s recorded onto thumb drives, but the tuners work fine. Sometimes they sell for 25 dollars alone in a box, other times, $35 with 4 speakers in a box.

Well, there definitely were people in North America 10000 - 12000 years ago, when the glacial period ended. Whether they were the direct ancestors of today's Indian tribes is uncertain. I expect people camped on or around the shoreline of Lake Missoula would have survived, watching the lake drop away like a flushed toilet.

Re the 106 year old. You can see why that would raise suspicion. Think someone using a stolen ID. And also maybe only a two digit year print out (saw something about that in the image of a letter she wrote Sean Duffy -- something about they were looking for a 6 year old girl).
If I were Sean Duffy, I think I'd come up with some special dispensation for her. Some "magic ticket" type of thing that just waives her right through. It would be great PR.

But I do the same thing. Hot cast iron and a two or three minutes a side, if that; I add butter in the pan and lemon slices on the plate. I love skirt steak because it cooks quick, is tender and mighty tasty.

My friend had a 50% off and a little more on her two orders. She ordered similar, just got chicken tenders instead of meatballs. But everything else was the same. It was her first order. I had a friend I mentioned (who passed away, don't start Rick) and she had sent me two orders before. I love the fact that they are so freezer stable in their cute little suction-sealed packages. I have a small top freezer so it works out to be the right size order. My friend, on the other hand, owns her own home, with two freezers. She just threw the boxes into the freezer. Lucky her.

And consider yourself lucky. It's 3:30 a.m. here. I'm getting ready to have an everything bagel. Then I have to make some Coleman's mustard, adding honey instead of water.
I bought some pre-cooked chicken tenders on a dare from a company from which I've bought their egglant rollitini and it's good and cheesey (in a good way) and buying it is a hell of a lot easier and cheaper than making it. I had a small piece earlier and it wasn't at all. Some Coleman's Honey Mustard with a dash of Smoked Jalapeno Tabasco ought to do the dipping trick.

I see hanger and skirt steak as being the same. Maybe I'm wrong but they look the same and taste the same to me just different names. Who knows? It's all good.
