Trump Signs Executive Order Requiring Proof of Citizenship When Voting in Federal Elections

I don't think he can do this, or else Biden would have done the opposite before 2024, mandating that states accept any votes from anyone, no ID required.

I appreciate the sentiment here but I don't think this one will survive.

President Donald Trump on Tuesday signed an executive order aimed at restoring confidence in America's elections by enforcing voter ID, cracking down on non-citizen voting, and ensuring compliance with existing federal election laws.
Key Details:
The executive order criticizes the United States for falling behind other nations in securing its elections, noting that while India and Brazil use biometric voter ID systems, many U.S. states rely on self-attestation.
Trump ordered the Election Assistance Commission to update the national voter registration form to require "documentary proof of United States citizenship," including passports or REAL ID-compliant documents.

This is interesting:

The order also instructs the Department of Justice to crack down on states that count ballots received after Election Day, stating that counting late ballots is akin to letting someone "vote in person at a former voting precinct" days after polls close.

Trump's directive enforces federal laws already on the books, such as 2 U.S.C. sec. 7 and 3 U.S.C. sec. 1, which establish a uniform national Election Day. Referencing a 2024 Fifth Circuit ruling, the order states that ballots must be both cast and received by Election Day. "This is like allowing persons who arrive 3 days after Election Day, perhaps after a winner has been declared, to vote in person... which would be absurd," the order reads.

To assist states in cleaning up voter rolls, Trump directed the Department of Homeland Security to provide access to immigration databases and mandated that the Social Security Administration share death and identity data. The Attorney General is instructed to "prioritize enforcement" of statutes that prohibit non-citizens from registering or voting and to coordinate with state officials to prosecute violations.
The order also targets election infrastructure and voting machines, requiring that all voting systems include "a voter-verifiable paper record" and banning systems that use barcodes or QR codes to contain vote data, except for accessibility needs. The Election Assistance Commission is instructed to decertify equipment that fails to meet new integrity standards within 180 days.

It wouldn't be a Trump executive order without a deadly threat to the left's corrupt money:

The executive order further aims to eliminate foreign interference by enforcing 52 U.S.C. sec. 30121, which bans foreign contributions to federal, state, or local elections. Trump highlighted the abuse of ballot initiative spending loopholes and committed federal enforcement resources to curtail this influence, declaring that "foreign nationals and non-governmental organizations have taken advantage of loopholes... undermining the franchise."
Through information-sharing agreements, increased prosecution, and withholding of federal funds to uncooperative states, the order seeks to hold jurisdictions accountable for maintaining accurate voter rolls and enforcing citizenship requirements.

As you probably know, ActBlue is very credibly accused of deliberate weakening its donor information protocols to allow foreigners (including foreign intelligence operatives) to donate to Democrats while assigning the donation to a "smurf," an American citizen whose name is being hijacked to launder illegal foreign political donations.

You would have loved to have my experience in a DMV in NYC recently.

Me and maybe 3 brothers were the only people in there who were speaking English without an accent.

I showed up with an envelope full of documents (birth certificate, passport, social security card, two utility bills, bank statements, etc. Overkill I know, but the DMV is hell on earth and I didn't want to go back), and yet it seemed that our non-english speaking friends had no issues getting their drivers licenses.

Now i don't know anyones immigration status in the DMV that day, but if I had to guess...

But 1) think of all the other federal interactions where ID is required; airports, job onboarding, benefits. So waiving it may not be legal. So there's precedent for "the federal government has the authority to require ID to exercise federal rights."

And 2) imagine the optics of a lawsuits of the federal government suing a state for requiring ID. Which, they've done. And the SCOTUS has upheld the requirements. So, they've already spent their "voting ID is racist" ammo.

Looks like March 25 (Gregorian) translates to "Astron 3" in Shire Reckoning, or the 3rd day of the 4th month. Unless it's a Leap Year, in which case March 25 would be Astron 4.

Crypto Voter ID Numbers.
In a real system you would just create an ID# based how many IDs you need for the life of the system.
Say 10 M users so many 100 M ID#s.
So take Tex DL #s Mine is XX,XXX,X09 (The data field actually holds 10 places). They are issues sequentially as they hit the data server in Austin, so there is a person out there that has my number +1 so ending in 10.
Well that is not how voter reg is done is some systems.
It is a crypto non-sequential number. So it would be possible for someone to make a clone of my registration with a new number that would be IMPOSSIBLE to find if you did not know the crypto format.
Well some people know that format and know how to create and then find that new number in the system.
Florida as an example, may have 500,000 of these clones.

I thought the enforcement was withholding funding. Not sure that is enough, but if the feds can fund elections, they can tell them how to run them to receive those funds.

They can, and do, however, on state registration forms and ballots including both state and federal require such proof. Basically idiocy by the courts like in immigration.

Which is why the GOP GOTV machine needs to focus on early voting (or absentee in cheat by mail states) rather than rely on the older push to in person voting on election day. Part of the resistance, I think, is that costs more money for GOTV and campaign consultants feel it hits them in the pocketbook as commissions on GOTV are much less that idiotic flyers, robocalls, and media adverts. GOTV involves people and managing those people so more cost. But, it gets you the less likely voters to turn out.

Trump did that in 2024 despite wailing by some in Conservative Media about tipping their hand to the Dems or vote destruction, etc. but GOP voters in general have considerable resistance to doing that compared with Dems.

It probably cost the AZ GOP the 2022 state elections by the outdated view of getting them out to vote on election day rather than earlier.

You need more than a driver's license to get a real ID. The illegals getting one are probably doing so via id theft of a citizen or with forged documents.

Ahhh, well this one looks like it came from an old VHS tape.

Deinterlacing isn't really difficult to do for interlaced material. QTGMC deinterlacing can make an old VHS look like as sharp and de-noised as a DVD if it's done right.

But it does make the encode twice or three times as long to accomplish so some may skip it.

Just don't complain when your see horizontal lines running through your video every time something moves and it looks so crappy.

My guess is the GOP candidate ran the typical lousy campaign relying on media ads, robocalls, and campaign mailers along with a few glad handing appearances before friendly audiences.

Probably used the state GOP's required election package for campaign managers, media consultants, fund raising, etc.

Dems spent the money on GOTV operations and voter targeting and kicked the GOP ass because turnout is everything in a special election.

GOP state organizations need to can the approved lists for candidate campaign staffing and messaging and focus on GOTV. That is the problem with the state GOPs and many locals. The ones running the operations require their 'friends' to be hired and those 'friends' are out to soak donors up to the limit. Winning a race is optional.

Trump's EO addressed that (which is the weakest part of it legally). Apparently by statute (and by the US Constitution backing that statute up) is that federal election day is set. Trump's EO equates receiving any ballots after the election day as illegal for federal offices. You run into a conflict of laws without a statute specifically requiring all states to have counted ballots by Election day and no more ballots weeks and months later. There is a 5th Circuit case involving Mississippi that banned the practice of late votes there so mebbe, Scotus might take it up eventually when another circuit rules on the Trump EO. My guess is that Trump is forcing the Scotus to do its friggin job via the EO and subsequent lawsuits which Roberts as CJ abhors.

There will be a conflict between circuits is my guess with the 5th ruling one way and some lib jurisdiction Court of Appeals ruling the other.

You can't without legislation. States may do so to some extent (with VRA implications) but Real ID is actually pretty good in a lot of states as I posted the minimum std. under that law--most states require more and I actually went through the process years ago.

Purging SSN numbers of fraudulent and dead people is the first step. Requiring purging of existing dead, moved, or fake voters is another. His executive order is actually pretty damn good and can be made better by putting it into statute.

whig, you're brilliant and I do appreciate you posting the legal details about obtaining Real ID. I just don't buy it. We've got plenty of anecdotes, and we know how local govts and their agencies are pro-illegal and corrupt. If there's any chance that there is a substantial number of fraudulent Real IDs issued to illegals, we ought not allow that loophole.

Northern state GOP party organizations became simply grift machines in places like IL, PA, NY, OH, and elsewhere and dependent on existing voters turning themselves out and goosing it a bit via media funding. The old std. was a low turnout election ensured GOP winning so they never bothered to try to actually turn out voters. The NJ consent decree meant more or less states GOP and local GOP were on their own regarding cheating by Dems.

So that GOP state parties attempting to prevent Dem vote fraud, withered away by lack of funds, desire, and lack of GOP lawyers (law schools turning hard left reduced the number of conservative lawyers versus corporate types) interested in election law.

So, over time, state organizations became grifting distributors to their 'friends' aka donors for influence peddling, internal grift, etc. and NOT to win elections as such.

Beware of ecological fallacy. What is true at the individual level (anecdotes) may not be true at the system level. As always, election law is simply the rules of the game and the GOP has sat on its ass for a long time in a lot of states to allow matters to come to this.

Dems cheat because their party is essentially a criminal organization designed to steal money and power for their donor class and the gimmedats.

So, throwing out the Real ID act rather than the harder work of fixing it in state after state is not the answer in my view. Instead, go after the primary target first--illegals having SSN numbers by fraud, illegals registered to vote along with dead and fraudulent registrations, and so on. Trump and DOGE along with Soc. Security art tackling the first, the EO promises the AG to go after bad voter reg. lists via required purging by law, and then going after fraudulent Act Blue criminals funding criminal Dems in office.

One is that you need to produce your Social Security card (the one that says "not for identification purposes"). If the name one that card doesn't match your drivers license, YOUR HAVE TO get one or both of them changed so they match before you can proceed.

Their numbers seem larger than they actually are. About as many Hindi aka Indians that are non Muslims are in those immigrant numbers along with Eastern Europeans. Muslims are about 8-9 percent in 2023-24 counting. They win power at the top in urban areas because essentially, Westminster runs the urban areas with local councils merely wasting money.

France's problem is more severe due to Muslims from former French colonies of Tunisia, Morocco and Algeria fleeing to France and probably Germany's with its Turk guest worker program dating from the 60's. Spain is also under siege due to close proximity to Africa.

I had to do this recently to be able to successfully log into the Login.gov website; when I applied for a social security number in junior high school, I put Shain as my first name -- but found out later from my birth certificate that it was my middle name.

Oddly enough, my two best friends in high school also went by their middle names ... I guess that was a more common thing back in the day.

Sarah Huckabee, gov of Arkansas, is requiring proof of understanding English for CDL truck drivers at traffic stops, weighing stations, etc. No demonstration of understanding or reading English, then the truck is not allowed to proceed road until a driver is sent that qualifies.

Both a federal and state legal requirement btw. Including those truck drivers admitted under treaty from Canada or Mexico.

This is the way forward. Enforce existing laws.

Biden admin types are complaining that these firms are not giving them pro bono representation anymore and they are having to pay for legal defense of what they did in office.

That is the key. The GOP has to run government under the Chicago Way (see the Untouchables Movie and Sean Connery's speech to Kevin Costner's character). Fortunately, Trump gets that while the bleating GOPe types at Powerline, NR, and other places scream about that is "not who we are". Tis true that they are no warriors in spirit or in court and fight only when property is at stake.
