22 The subject of this work was only recently identified satisfactorily as a Pentecostal procession.

The potted plant, a cardamine pratensis, whose flower a young child sitting on a railing offers to the alms collector, is the key to this painting. This common meadow plant, which was unlikely to be depicted as an ornamental plant, is called pinksterbloem in Dutch. The same name, which means “May flower”, is given to the little girl at the head of the processions organised by Catholics on this festival day.

131 I really like the art from this painter and other Dutch artists from this period. It's a pleasant scene with rich brown colors that make the skin tones and whites of the clothing stand out. The expressions are smiling and encouraging for the little girl and each person's face is individual. I especially enjoy the details in the rear and fore grounds: the stone work, the wood works, the hanging basket and foliage. They form a separate layer for the viewer to notice after the people and overall scene make their impression.

Pleasant and effective. There's a reason the paintings from this period are so enjoyable.

137 I early-voted for Jimmy Patronis this morning in the FL-01 special election. He's going to win, but I'm not sure it'll be a landslide for him as most general elections in this district have been for the Republican candidate over the last 30 years.

His leftard opponent, Gay Valimont, who lost the general election here by 32-points, has been flooding the zone with advertising on TV, billboards and social media after raising nearly $7M from doners all over the country in trying to flip the seat blue.

In this normally solid red district, Patronis has only a 4-point lead in mail-in balloting across the four counties comprising the district.

Libtard money has also been pouring in from around the country to the opponent of Trump-endorsed Randy Fine in FL-06. The fund-raising arm of the national GOP has not been pleased with Randy Fine's effort there.

Petitpalias dot Paris dot fr:

The subject of this work was only recently identified satisfactorily as a Pentecostal procession.

In part, "The hesitation over what title to give to this work stems from the fact that Steen produced a parody of the traditional procession. The little girl dressed as a bride and crowned with flowers who walked the streets collecting alms is replaced by a young boy wearing a cap with a paper flower pinned to it."

Would pass on hanging this painting, but the 'story' behind it is interesting. Thanks.

217 Shit, boys! It's the beginning of the end!

Good News! Judge to Hear Arguments for First Official Hand Recount in 2024 Election. SMART Legislation (an Action Partner of SMART Elections) is part of a lawsuit asking for a full hand recount of the 2024 election — and we have great news! A judge has agreed to consider a hand recount of all the Presidential and Senate ballots in Rockland County. We have a hearing on March 27, 2025 at 9:30 am in Rockland County NY to move forward.

I doubt it is going to change anything.
Trump 83,543 55.39%
Harris 65,580 43.68%
Harris won the state 56 % to 43%

Should the hand recount show Harris with a significantly larger lead, it could be used as an example. To the tune of, "if her margin was this much bigger in a place she was expected to win, what about her margin of loss in places where she was expected to win? Shouldn't that be verified as well?"

The only chance the current Supreme Court would do ANYTHING beneficial to the majority of the citizenry would be if Trump dissed Roberts and Coney Barrett so loudly and so often they would finally say, "to hell with it, I don't care HOW much he paid us."

It is about Wile E. Coyote suing Acme for product liability. LOL.

"The Argentine Government of President Javier Milei Monday released a video on social media saying March 24, 2025, should be the “Day of Complete Memory” on the 49th anniversary of the Military Junta uprising headed by Lieutenant General Jorge Rafel Videla, marking the beginning of the self-appointed National Reorganization Process which ended up in the 1982 Falklands/Malvinas War and a return to democratic rule the following year.

"The National Memory, Truth, and Justice Holiday has been capitalized on since its inception by leftwing groups denouncing the mass disappearances and tortures under the military regime. But this time around, Milei's Libertarian Administration also focuses on previous deadly acts of violence committed by leftwing terrorist organizations."

There is an X video attached to the article by Augustin Laje Arrigoni which is 19 minutes of Spanish, but the main push is that in the traditional view of the "Single Demon" genesis of the Argentine Dirty War ignores the fact that the ten years prior to the military coup, Argentina had been wracked by ongoing guerilla warfare, like almost every other South American countr

305 these wars were supported by the Soviet Union and marshalled out of Castro's Cuba. In all, there were more than a thousand bombings, assassinations, ambushes, kindnappings and assaults by an organized revolutionary army, and that the orders to begin counterinsurgency were issued and were put into action prior to the Military coup.
Further, the numbers killed by the military at that time of 30.000 killed was admitted to have been an invention by the revolutionary press to place it at the level of the European conficts, and the best estimates of the diappeared, killed and executed was between 6,000 and 8,000 - admittedly very high.
The focus on "The Single Demon" hides the culpability and violence of the revolutionaries and the leftists who supported them in society and leaves the blame and the responsibility for compensation levied on the Argentine governments, which had paid, and which compensation rarely was received by any of the actual victims.

The answer is convenience. If I'm too lazy to cook and had a long day at work, I'll order delivery sometimes.

Yes, the fees and everything are beyond obnoxious. I live in a place where most restaurants used to deliver for free or cheap. Now we have to pay DoorDash to make the experience more expensive and annoying.

But for most people in most parts of the country, they can now get food delivered that they never could have in the past.

Eh. I don't know. Not the best use of money, I guess, but most things aren't.

Posted by: Harry Paratestes at March 25, 2025 10:53 AM (uCjyK)

307 The 19 minute film by Agustin Laje ends with a fairly open statement that we have to see the history of the 70s completely, without censure or dogmatic interpretation, we have to see our history compeletly and only this way can we learn of our past and make sure that it never happens again. A society that clings to lies can never construct a future of liberty.

As a side note, I have never run across Augustin Laje Arrigoni before, I don't do Argentine documetaries for some reason, but I have to say he makes Bill Whittle sound stuffy, and Dinesh D'Souza sound a bit constrained.

The writer who penned Queen of the Flattops was after all a Chicago reporter. After the Battle of the Coral Sea one Naval officer let slip how the US was reading Japanese JN-25 coded messages. His newspaper published that.

Naturally the US Navy had a spasm once they read about it in the paper. The officer in question never commanded anything. And luckily the Japanese never learned of it.

Of course they won't talk about that footnote to World War II that could have cost us the war in the Pacific.

Which American ships were attacked, and which Americans were kidnapped and forced in to slavery?

This doesn't feel as ... defensive as the Barbery Pirate situation.

Okay, then Yemen declared war on the US, and we have a system in place to deal with that. Congress can convene and decide to go to war with Yemen.

This bombing all over the world with vague / no casus belli is a pattern we see repeated over and over again, so forgive me for being a bit cynical here.

343 I hate Door Dash. No idea why people pay the huge upcharge just to have someone deliver your food to the wrong address after it's gone cold. Unless you're a wealthy shut-in with no sense of taste, it doesn't make sense to me.

-

It's been my experience that there is a large percentage of the population, 30-40% or so, that doesn't worry about money at all. Especially among the yankees that have moved to the South and discovered that they're now wealthy down here. Add to that kids of those people who died and there's plenty of money to be thrown around with no concern.

Add to THAT 15% or so of the population with no concern about money to begin with who'll just file bankruptcy and oh well.

And then add to that the welfare recipients who aren't spending their own money and also have no idea how to handle/save and will follow the trends.

I didn't assume it was dumb, I just wasn't sure what point you were making. I'm not an expert on that time period, I thought maybe I was misunderstanding.

And yes, if it's true that Yemen has launched attacks against the US Navy, then we should have hearings and go through the process of declaring war.

It will take some time to get used to making it, but go to a thrift store and pick up one of the five bread machines they'll have for $10

Bread isn't really bread any longer for the same reason food isn't being made of food. IIRC some breads aren't legally considered bread because they don't have the proper ingredients in them any longer.

Pretzel dough is an easy one to get started with.

The people making the claim are WAY misinterpreting the results. The technology they used can only penetrate a few feet into the ground, and they claim they're seeing a mile down.
