Curiosity
@MAstronomers

At 4207 meters above sea level on Hawaii's Mauna Kea, photographer Andrew McCarthy set out on a challenging climb. His goal was to capture a rare sight, Saturn slipping behind the moon. From the peak of the dormant volcano, he finally witnessed and photographed the stunning event, bringing a piece of the cosmos down to earth.

Doggos and babies.

A five-year-old gives his dog a spa day. Meanwhile, Mom doesn't even get a pancake on Mother's Day.

Grandma gives dog a giant stuffed animal.

Lion spends some quality time with cub.

Giving a teddy-bear dog a makeover.

Giving your marmot a bubble bath, if you know what I mean.

Senior dog was abandoned by owner, who tied her next to a burned-down building, and left her to starve. She was adopted by a rescuer. Tough story, though -- she is at the end of her life with lymphoma. But she's being loved as she reaches the end of her days.

They'll never build a better mousetrap but God built a better mouse.

A bird does his sexiful dance for your pleasure.

Bears: A National Crisis. And now hippos are out of control.

Colorized film of Chicago in the 1930s with street ambient noise added. Some teenagers engage in old-timey teenager activities, like riding each other like ponies, at 5:55.

Is this real? Or real-ish? Sometimes (often) NASA adds color to video. I dunno, it's neat.

I was entertained by that article. Add "lack of situational awareness" to Mr. Walz's repertoire. In referring to voters that didn't vote for him he actually said, "I think I could kick most of their asses."

But, the most amusing thing about the interview is how he tried to prove his masculinity. Apparently, hunting and fixing a truck is the benchmark. Spoken like someone who thinks masculinity is a stereotypical action. I guess women don't have the tools to hunt or fix a truck. That seems sexist.

If it's the same one I saw a while back (circa 1910 New York City) it was fascinating. The street was very wide, four lanes today. But there were no lanes indicated, no traffic lights, no stop signs or even a policeman directing traffic. Pedestrians (including children) were casually walking wherever they wanted to at will, crossing the boulevard between slow-moving horse-drawn carriages, streetcars and the occasional primitive automobile. It's a wonder that someone wasn't getting run over every day; maybe they were, until the city had to figure out how to make the streets safer at the turn of the century.

I'm not sure if other places are similar, but the South will vary the base and ingredients of the slaw depending on what it's being eaten with.

At one time people would give a polite "bless your heart" if you brought some sort of mayonnaise atrocity to eat with barbeque. It doesn't happen as often now since the larger areas are mostly North, but go into rural communities and people still know how to cook.

Chicken on the Way, a Calgary fixture since 1958, serves a "corn fritter" that is very close to a hush puppy. Breaded with the same breading mix used on their chicken, which is real good. Freshly=chipped French fries, too, never frozen.

233 A buddy of mine in the Army took leave shile stationed at Schofield and hiked to the top. There is a Red Hill cabin iirc about 1/3 or 1/2 the way up, and a summit cabin. The route kicked my ass, it isn’t like normal hiking on most backpacking in that it is a jumble of volcanic rocks and small boulders, so in some of the trail concentration is required for foot placement. While not super high in elevation I was not feeling well at all, this takes a lot of the enjoyment out. The view is spectacular over the summit cauldron.
