Posted by: Bertram Cabot, Jr. at March 19, 2025 02:32 PM (63Dwl) It's very expensive. Permits, paying for cops, insurance, etc. etc. A small parade in a small city can easily cost 6 figures to put on. I've done some pro bono work with groups hosting parades, it is shocking expensive. Insurance for a 2 hour parade can easily cost $25,000 alone. Cops usually double that. Posted by: Harry Paratestes at March 19, 2025 02:35 PM (uCjyK) 35

Here is the real deal :"Lacryma Christi (Latin for ''Christ's tear'') or Lachryma Christi of Vesuvius is a Neapolitan type of wine produced on the slopes of Mount Vesuvius in Campania, Italy. White Lacryma Christi is made mainly from Verdeca and Coda di Volpe grapes, with smaller proportions of Falanghina, Caprettone and Greco di Tufo included. Red Lacryma Christi is made from Piedirosso and Sciascinoso grapes. It is also, as archaeologists have discovered, the nearest equivalent to wine drunk by the Ancient Romans (!!!), having analysed microscopic residue left on the taps of the casks."

I have not kept up/looked into it, I assume it's mostly the usual issue of excess supply, with consequent pricing pressure. Not sure I understand why it's worse now - Australia, Chile, Argentina, the cheaper quality competitors, have been in the market bigly for well over a decade. But there it is.

Not a good sign. The wine business has been bad for years.
Posted by: CaliGirl ===== Hi CaliGirl, not sure if this is something you'd know - is there a cost hit for the Sonoma and Napa wineries because of how valuable the land is? In the Midwest, there's a noticeably higher price for those wines. I'm assuming reputation is part of it, but I've wondered if it is also because it is just more expensive to produce in those areas. So, you're telling me that sponsors are walking away from pride, being one of the 7 deadly sins, because people overall don't like having the tranny dick shoved in their face and won't support the sponsors of such blasphemy?
All these companies went all in on this stuff not because they believed in any of it. They did it because their HR department or the special guest who did a talk at the office, or the legal team did a pitch they were trained to give: "the younger generation is growing up to love diversity and tranny bathrooms, they are the future and they see you being too white, too straight, and too old. They will go and buy at the companies who go along with our agenda, and you'll lose money and customers!" And they thought it was true. They believed that their future and the much desired 18-30 demographic was all super left wing and they would be left behind and lose money if they didn't jump on the bandwagon. And they just found out that is all a pile of horsecrap and are backing away from it. Posted by: Christopher R Taylor at March 19, 2025 02:44 PM (2VST1) 105

Land prices for good vineyard land in Sonoma/Napa zoomed out of sight many years ago. In the 90s, I talked with the owner of Siduri (good pinots) and he told me his story of trying to nibble at the cheapest pinto-suitable land in Sonoma and quickly realized, no way, so he has always sourced out of OR and WA (as I recall, and unless it's changed).
And it was at least 8 years ago, probably 10, that vineyard land prices in the Ramona area of San Diego County started to climb, with outside investment $$ coming in. They have their AVA now ("credential" for a wine growing area), so apart from industry-wide trends, I'd guess the "get in early" phase down here is long over too. The price of grapes has been terrible for at least 5 years maybe longer. So the growers are losing their ass and pulling out grapes all over the valley. The winemakers that buy their grapes instead of growing them are in the best position. They aren't selling as much wine and I don't know if it's oversupply. Plus regulations and permits, fight with neighbors over how many functions the wineries can have. All sorts of problems.

CaliGirl these vine-ripping periods can lead to extraordinary and cheap bottles. Back when Trader Joe's 2 Buck Chuck chardonnay *won* the state fair tasting, the vendor (think it was the big box wine producer out of Fresno, forge the name) explained it easily. Chard was vastly over-planted in the 90s. When many growers finally decided to rip a lot out, chard grapes of top quality, good French clones, were going for 1/5 the price per ton after the last harvest. Voila. $3 wine that was more like $25 wine.

The Trump administration has started coming for poppers. Double Scorpio, a company that sells lube, clothing and accessories, as well as Double Scorpio Cleaner, a popular brand of poppers, has announced that it is stopping all operations following an FDA search and seizure at its offices. The FDA is currently under the purview of Robert F. Kennedy Jr., who in the past has said that he believes poppers cause AIDS. Poppers, also known as alkyl nitrites, are a chemical that, when smelled, relax the smooth muscles in the body, including the sphincter muscles in the anus, and increase heart rate and blood flow, often leading to a sense of euphoria. They are a popular party drug, especially in gay communities. Posted by: Intercepted Advocate.com Transmissions brought by the Intrepid AoS Liaison at March 19, 2025 03:03 PM (ycI94) 220

This is what happens in farming is someone makes a mint, then everyone and their brother starts planting wine grapes. Oversupply and the bust starts anew. Storage is huge money. I knew an old grape grower that pressed his own grapes and was paying the storage fees and then he bottled it and made a fortune on a table blend. He was just trying to not go broke because the wine grape market sucked. He marketed the wine himself all over the state and didn't go broke. >>>> They've marked more than 3 million SSNs in the database for people over 120 as deceased.
Data Republican's take on why this happened: The cleanup of the Social Security database is about something much more important. It is about establishing a ground truth. There is a reason that DC is panicking about establishing a truly accurate Social Security database, and it is because much of federal government revolves around having no true ground truth. If your average person understood the scope and scale of the problem of having this data scattered across various agencies, how it hurts normal citizens, they would revolt. I link to @heminator article below. But here's a summary: up to 75% of illegal aliens are using stolen Social Security numbers. Chances are, your Social Security number is being used by an illegal immigrant and you don't even know it. . . As it stands, the current system relies on the ground truth being scattered in fragmented pieces throughout the federal government. And that's the real reason why politicians are in such a panic about cleaning up this data. https://tinyurl.com/2p8xd9cm Posted by: Lizzy at March 19, 2025 03:16 PM (Cki93) 288

Posted by: thathalfrican - The One ===== About 63000k pages out of approximately 80k were released last night in two dumps. The first in the afternoon and the second about 10:30 PM EST. 1100 documents in the first dump, about 1000 in the second. So we have roughly 17k pages to go as far as being released in an unknown number of documents (some of the documents are one page, others are multipage). The dumps annoyed me as the second dump last night basically is interspersed with the first. The documents are presented in document identifier order and some are post 1963 addressing Watergate related individuals, the requests of the Church Commission. I've had this idea for years. If Chevrolet would produce a basic truck just like the 1955 Apache with basic manual transmission, 4 wheel drive, AC, power steering and disk brakes, and drop a 300 horse straight 6 engine in it, I would buy one.
Posted by: Xipe Totec I like small trucks, being not very tall. My current ride is a S-10, '02. V6, extended cab, auto. Under 100,000 miles. Bought a Ford Ranger, too. '11, 2.3, but a screamer. 78,000 miles. Why would I pay $65,000 for a truck that I can't reach into the bed from the ground? Posted by: MkY at March 19, 2025 03:36 PM (cPGH3) 434

Buck. Broken. The game plays rap beats when you're playing as the black guy (there's also an Asian lesbian).
