Ferris Bueller Never Would Have Made It Past Today’s Obsessive Location Sharing
My high school had a setup that I suspect has long vanished — the open campus. In practice, that meant coming and going wasn’t monitored. One could just walk off campus and leave, so skipping school was extraordinarily easy, whether one took a full or a partial day. See, I remember high school being the same way. I tried to get my son to enjoy the freedom he was earning, but sometimes he just didn't want to. He'd rather have his face burried in this phone than go outside.
Andrew Johnson's drunk vice-presidential inaugural address
According to historian George F. Milton Jr., by way of U.S. Representative Walter P. Brownlow, by way of his uncle, Tennessee Governor and U.S. Senator William G. Brownlow, at one point Johnson managed to insult all the foreign ambassadors at once[49] when he turned and said, "And you, gentlemen of the Diplomatic Corps, with all your fine feathers and geegaws."[53] The New-York Tribune described the speech as "almost impossible to follow," described wildly varying volume and projection (vacillating between "backwoods" shout and inaudible mumble), and wrote that Johnson "intimated very broadly that Tennessee was personified in Andrew Johnson" and "repeated 'I announce here to-day' at least 20 times in the 20 minutes misused by Mr. Johnson."[54] The Hamlin biography claims that the outgoing vice president tried to intercede: "Leaning forward quietly, to attract as little attention as possible, Mr. Hamlin took hold of Johnson's coat, pulled it gently, and whispered, 'Johnson, stop!' But this had no effect; Johnson was thoroughly excited, and wound up for a speech."[43] Brooks confirms as much, writing that from the press gallery he could see Hamlin periodically reminding Johnson that it was getting past time for the President's inauguration.[46] Read the whole thing. Sounds like he was shitfaced for weeks straight.
On Covid
Reading further, I am reminded that my initial attitude was bemusedly and mulishly obedient, a grudging “whatever, let’s just try to make the best of a bad situation.” But this is when I start to feel an acute twinge of pain, and it becomes hard to go beyond that without pausing for a deep breath. Because I remember what happened next. I remember what was taken from me. I remember what they took from my son. And I am once again painfully overwhelmed by the lone true emotion that dominates my memories of the Covid Era: rage.

Texas Lt. Gov. Dan Patrick has beef with the famous New York strip steak, believing it should be rebranded to represent Texas. I mean, sure? But why go for the NY Strip? Ribeye or flatiron is a much better cut, let's rebrand one of those cuts!
It’s not just Parker. Many Black people are finding joy in activities that were once inaccessible because of systemic racism or were not culturally traditional pursuits in Black communities. These forays have become emblematic of the ways Black people celebrate the freedom and flexibility they have, and how they are using it to escape the rigors of life — personally, socially and politically. Race, race, race, race, race. It's all they've got, and it is sooo tiring.
Despite what activists say, the planet is not on fire
Nearly half of young Canadians surveyed in a 2022 study said they believed humanity is doomed because of climate change, while more than three-quarters said they were frightened. No wonder. They have grown up bombarded both by footage of natural disasters, not just in Canada but around the world, and by activists’ claims that climate change is making the planet unliveable. But that’s just wrong.
LGBT Gang Allegedly Tortures, Kills Trans Woman. Queer Activists Blame Straight ‘Hate’
These LGBT activists are so insanely obsessed with anti-LGBT hate that they’ve created a new category where an LGBT person can commit “anti-LGBTQ hate” against his own partner. Ironically, they reveal an important truth in this fanatical need for victimhood: The most dangerous threats to LGBT people are usually other LGBT people. So a mentally ill person was tortured and killed by other mentally ill people, and we're supposed to be surprised? Tonight's ONT has been brought to you by the comments section:

So in Germany:
As everyone knows, the CDU, having "won" the election, proceeded to betray its voters by starting coalition talks with the SPD (Social Democrats). And as everyone also knows, this required the CDU to scrap all its tough talk during the campaign about a strict immigration policy, in hopes that the SPD would also compromise. Well. The SPD is now--get this--not compromising on its open-borders policy. They are now demanding that the CDU agree to allowing 500,000 immigrants into the country per year, give voting rights to non-citizen migrants, and agree that deportation will be only a "very last resort," for repeat criminal offenders. All or most of which I predict the CDU will cave to, because, having thrown away the possibility of allying with the AfD, they have no more cards left. Best of luck, Krauts. The Firefly Blue Ghost Lander is going to have some interesting things to deal with during the eclipse tonight. It's going to try to get a first-ever shot of a solar eclipse from the Moon. When the sun is blocked, the solar panels will not longer be operative, and the lander will have to use battery power. They're having to figure their power budget carefully to operate the cameras during the event. And then thermal management is another. The lander is just coming off high noon on the Moon. During this, they had to cycle power off and on to keep from overheating. They're just coming back to 100% duty cycle now. But during the eclipse, the temperature is going to drop like a rock rapidly. Posted by: publius, Rascally Mr. Miley (w6EFb) at March 13, 2025 10:24 PM (w6EFb) 77

I don't know how anyone can wear a properly fitted N95 type mask for more than half-an-hour. When I shopped for groceries or waited for a prescription where masks were required, I always needed to pull the mask out or down and take several deep breaths and let the mask cool a little, every 15 minutes. He would never have snitched on any one for skipping. The school was in a town of 1,300 folks, so there was nowhere to go anyway, except a pool hall down by the river.

The doctors and hospital wouldn't let them step a foot into the buildings unless they got the SHOT. Quickly attenuated via mutation. Became just another flu. When I got it 2 years in I really knew it was special. I didn't know if I would make it for two days. It's not something to denigrate. There certainly some people who were genuinely psychologically terrorized by the COVID propaganda, closing themselves in their homes, baking their mail in the oven, and so forth.
Those are the few, broken people you still see in masks. The vast majority of people who were "terrified of COVID" were just playing make believe. The other part of the propaganda was to turn COVID compliance into a visible virtue signal. The mask and vaxx mandates were largely enforced by the Weinsatzgruppen Karens. It was their moment in the sun. They're the ones who reluctantly took that mask off, the moment society moved on and stopped listening. But the few who got Pfizer and Moderna tattoos will have to cover that part of their body forever. Posted by: Yudhishthira's Dice at March 13, 2025 11:11 PM (BI5O2) 195

And so rare that they had to go to 27 countries to finally find 100 people (out of 800 who - over 8 years - were initially recruited for the study) to be able to run the study (the other 700 were either too sick or no longer around to be able to participate). My oncologist has had a grand total of 2 patients who were able to take this medication. Neither one is still alive. I would REALLY love to be the one who makes medical history, and I am certainly fighting as hard as I can to beat this. But I have to be realistic about what I am facing... Nearly killed me. O2 sat at 60%. Did it all.. Ivermectin, hcq, nac, vit c,d . Nope and nope nothing helped. Got the glassed lungs. Went to hospital. No spouse allowed, abandoned like a sick dog. I Refused their only allowed remdesivir intubation treatment, got SCREAMED at by the er doc for refusing, and was then literally abandoned to the basement of the er with no water, no food, no pillow ,no blanket, not one visit by attending nurses for 12 hours while they had a birthday party for a nurse in the room next door. Thank God I had my rosary and my down coat. I was then transferred to the upstairs Covid wing, the nurse there scrambled to get me out because she feared for my life and said so. Out in 4 hours. Whew. Two months on o2, but the concentrator they sent me home with failed three times, so my beloved spouse bought and had an emergency shipment of a concentrator so we could have reliable equipment. A nightmare I will never ever forget, and I blame evryone involved. Top to bottom. Total culture of death. Looking back, there is NO doubt in my mind that this was the intended outcome. They tagged me as a do not resuscitate the minute I was admitted. With a fever of 102 and low O2 I was not clear on what was happening and conveniently had NO advocate because of their policies. I snapped to attention late and demanded they reverse the DNR toe tag as I'd reconsidered. Accused the admitting doc of trying to set me up to be killed. That got her attention. I told the er doc that his remdesivir treatment was responsible for killing upwards of of 40% of the people he was giving it to, he was at the time surrounded by an entourage of travelling nurses, probably five. I kid you not, he started screaming at me about how I didn't know shit from shinola and how about a little sympathy for what he and his staff were going through. That's when I started bawling and literally held my rosary up in his face. Get away from me, you creep. That's when they literally abandoned me. I'm alive today because I refused them. You mentioned that you have one remaining handgun, your every day carry. Reminds me of this quote from a great western novel, spoken by the title character, Shane: "Some carry two guns, but that's a show-off stunt and a waste of weight. One's enough if you know how to use it." As I'm sure you do. Posted by: JM in Illinois at March 13, 2025 11:42 PM (2EDzv) 248

They simply did not want believe me....until multiple people started getting their identical stories out. That poor little Downs teenager, Grace was her name, her family got the story out and that's when my friends and family started to believe. Posted by: KT at March 13, 2025 11:31 PM (xekrU) Thank you - I know that a LOT of people are praying for me, and I know that those prayers are working. I am so grateful for them, believe me! I am fortunate to be among the 40% who has responded well to this medication. We were shocked when one of the oncologists told us that a 40% response was "FANTASTIC!" - I guess I always thought the numbers were higher. I actually responded to this the first week that I took it - my numbers dropped by 75%. I don't think anyone responded that quickly in the study. I am immensely grateful - and I think I might have a fighting chance - thanks to my oncologist being willing to bail on the first line of chemotherapy when it became obvious after just 2 months that it wasn't working to stop that treatment and move on to this medication. The oncology surgeon was very surprised that he had done that - as he told us, most doctors wait 6 months to see if 1st line chemo will work. He may have bought me a lot more time. Now I need people to pray that my eyes don't get messed up again! Moon's about halfway into the Erf's penumbra now. Still looks bright as hell to me. The Firefly Blue Ghost lander is in the Sea of Crisis. That 35k payoff was to cook the numbers. Thor was helping at do inpatient coding at the local hospital during one stretch, and routinely saw people coming in from car accidents, farm accidents, gunshot wounds, etc., who happened to also have mild cases of covid, get covid as the principal diagnosis. Absolute bullshit, and this was in Arkansas, where we didn't comply past the initial 2 week to slow the spread thing.
They did restrict restaurants a little longer, and they did make everyone put up the signs that said you had to wear a mask, but the only place that enforced it was the hospital and medical clinics. At least in my part of Arkansas. God knows what they might've done in Little Rock. I know far more about Missouri politics, because we get our news from Springfield. While they were pushing the exhaustive hand-washing to save lives story, I thought of all the homeless people who are obviuosly not washing their hands a gazillion times a day (nor wearing masks, either, but that's not important right now) so why aren't there mountains of homeless corpses piling up on The Streets of San Francisco, e.g.? And you know if there were homeless corpses piling up in the streets you'd better believe you'd be hearing about it from a narrative perspective as well as with more stringent lockdown edicts. I'm not saying washing one's hands is a bad thing I'm just saying it had no effect on the homeless population regarding covid morbidity, that's all. That was my first real clue, where's all the homeless dead? After that thought, everything I saw or heard was just bullshit. DeBlasio offering free french fries to get the clot shot? How ridiculous! **** Because covid was a big nothingburger. It was basically a flu, so the only people who died were the very elderly and vulnerable. Washing hands does prevent the spread of illness. When I say people need to stand trial, I want to be clear, I mean a Nuremberg-type trial, a Crimes Against Humanity trial.
This is Brave New World territory, just a little different from the real Nuremberg, et.al., trials. But the issue is the same. How many millions has Fauci/Birx/and others killed both immediately back in 2020-2022/3, plus those who are now suffering immediate serious injury with a long term prognosis that is not good. Fertility has been affected in women. Millions of people have been killed. How many millions I'll let others count. But for me it's a number that justifies a Nuremberg-type Crime Against Humanity trtial. This does not take into account the financial shenanigans of Big Pharma in collusion with those who should rightly stand trial, that's just cream in the coffee. "The global handoff from big government to the free market may prove slippery, but it seems necessary given large deficits and bloated debt burdens. Economic growth has been enabled by unsustainable government support and protectionist policies. It may take time for private sector job growth to accelerate, for government workers to resettle, for broad-based corporate profits to rise, and for global trade to find a new equilibrium. In our view, the likely productivity gains from a market-based economic reboot are greater than risks; and the risks from the unsustainable status quo of debt-financed, tepid, and narrow economic growth are severe." - Jared Woodard, BofA Global Research, March 12, 2025 Posted by: Braenyard - some Absent Friends are more equal than others _ at March 14, 2025 01:19 AM (Cxn0V) 392

- - - - - - Before the Plague hit, there was a phone game called Pokemon Go that became a craze. The funny thing is, you couldn't just play it on your phone. You had to have location services enabled, so you could be geolocated. The reason? The game forced you to wander around in reality to catch "pokemon", rather than just staying at home to do so. So you'd have roving groups of people rushing to certain places in real life for a chance to unlock rare and special monsters. Or to do the "pokemon gyms", which were some sort of "king of the hill" team game. So, still on the phones, but they actually got out, and had to go to places. Looking at warm and humid, 68 F. now w/ little wind, high about 80+ today. Won't need to wear a jacket for the workout or going to work either.
We have our monthly dept. meeting on Zoom today (my last one!!! Whee!!!!), and I need to call a local lamp store/repair shop to make sure they're open tomorrow. I know how to change a lamp socket -- the current one is difficult to put the 3-way bulb into "bright" -- but I always have trouble getting the socket out. Perhaps the shop can do it in a reasonable time for not much $. Posted by: Wolfus Aurelius, Dreaming of Elsewhere at March 14, 2025 03:34 AM (omVj0) 476

We all know he does not need the salary. It's the fact he doesn't take it. When the man gives his time to his country instead.of playing golf or being with his family and friends or anything else he would like to do he's a pretty special guy. And when you look at all the freeloaders in D.C. and the mess they make out of things it's quite a contrast. We are lucky to have him as our President.
