Sefton: sefton at cutjibnewsletter.com | After Vowing That Democrats Would Shut Down the Government, Chuch Schumer Caves CompletelyChuck Schumer more like Cuck Schumer am i rite? On Wednesday, this ridiculous pompous flabby tick vowed that Democrats would vote against cloture on the House-passed CR, thus shutting down the government. Schumer's got his big fat flabby ass in a bind. On one hand, his left flank is as unreasoning and hate-filled as ever, and they demand he "fight" Trump on everything, and destroy the country if Trump says he wants to save it. On the other hand, his left flank is wildly unpopular with the public, and obeying their petulant entitled demands has brought the Democrat-Communist Party to the brink of extinction. So he decided to take his Clever Pills and settled on a plan: First, he'd announce he was shutting down the government to block Trump's rush to "dismantle" the government.
But then, he'd announce he was not shutting down the government, because if the government shuts down Trump gets to decide who will be paid and who will be furloughed or fired, and so shutting down the government would help Trump "dismantle" the government.
But he wanted to show his left flank that he was "tough" and willing to "fight" Trump. For twenty-four hours, at least. Brit HumeLike all other Democrats, Schumer used to pretend to be interested in cutting waste, fraud, and abuse of the American taxpayer:
For once, House Democrats are angrier with their own party than Donald Trump. It's ironic: the liberal media and the Democrats expected GOP disarray and chaos, and this shutdown fight sparked a civil war among themselves. Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY), who Schumer is rumored to be wary of regarding a primary challenge, might have been given the push she needs to plan on that front.

Note that Schumer knew that a shutdown would work to Trump's advantage before he announced he would shut the government down. This isn't some breaking news he just found out about. Everyone knew for months that the Democrats had little leverage in a shutdown fight, because Trump would just rightly blame it on the Democrats who caused it, and Trump would be empowered to lay off tens of thousands of Democrat layabout bureaucrats.
======= This is true and everyone knew it. But the base demanded a show, and now Schumer is denying them the show. For that, they will gripe about him before enthusiastically voting for him in the primary and general election next year. Go Team Blue. I think there's going to be a major shakeup in the Democrat's ranks over the next several years. Like the GOP they've got a number of very elderly members who are just not up to the fight. Not because they're not leftist enough, but because they don't have the mental acuity to react fast enough anymore.
The speed at which info gets out to the public, is spun, then spun again is beyond their ability to cope. This same sort of "shakeup" will/is happening to the GOP. Posted by: Martini Farmer at March 14, 2025 12:22 PM (Q4IgG) 32

It'll close the federal courts, where, as they said, it's "the only place we're winning." Posted by: People's Hippo Voice Courts traditionally have been considered essential functions. Shutdowns have been theater for decades which was promulgated by the media. If you go back to the Carter years, you will find multiple shutdowns because Congress has never been able to complete its budgeting decisions on time. Never. Same reason that the fed fiscal year runs from October instead of June like most of the states use. It was June for the Feds too but they never could get budget bills passed on time. The 1974 Impoundment and Budget Act made things even more chaotic than the older system and is an example of goo goos not understanding the collective action problem of legislating. A good part of Wilson's PhD dissertation topic and later his book (Congressional Government) was railing about how Congress could not do its primary job--the budget-- properly. As for "why not DOGE and tax cuts in this bill"?
B/c DOGE isn't done, and you get one shot at reconciliation each year. And the tax cuts need DOGE and the tariffs to prove they will be revenue neutral (and thus able to be passed in reconciliation). Per the Byrd rule in the Senate - "Since the mid-1980s, Senate rules have prohibited including provisions in reconciliation legislation that do not change the level of spending or revenues or the debt limit". So, Rs could NOT pass them now b/c they could never get 60 and RIGHT NOW, they don't have enough offsets for revenue neutrality. And it's very easy for Ds to stand on "Rs throwing Granny off the cliff with these cuts" to then put the Rs in the bind. This was the R strength position. Later, they will still be in it once Elon is done...he was given 6 months to find all the cuts, which means a Sept bill... Posted by: Nova Local at March 14, 2025 12:30 PM (exHjb) 83

Yep. Tesla makes their money selling carbon indulgences to the other car companies. They need to sell cars for that to work, true, but it's not the primary funding mechanism.
Posted by: Harry Paratestes - and without the federal regulations there would be no need for the subsidies leading to the increase in prices on cars people actually want in order to pay the indulgences so everyone can pretend they meet the regulations. Yea, for some reason AOC was a slightly more female version of Obama the way she was instantly ingratiated into politics. See my post above about her district. It seems obvious to me the Donk powerbrokers were tiring of the old white Irish (?) guy who represented that district for decades. 152 Not only is there still the opportunity for a reconciliation bill, now Trump can send rescission bills to Congress for savings in the newly-approved FY 25 spending (and unspent prior year appropriations) that are not filibusterable.
Posted by: Caesar North ========= Which is why he wanted the CR done to Sept. this year despite some people pissing and moaning about it here. Congressional calendar means FY 2024 budget process does not have enough time along with the FY 2025 budget to be done. We are better to have a complete regular order FY 2025 using reconciliation and recission than trying for fixing a budget that is already six months into it. That is not true in all cases. EVs can make sense for people with limited travel needs. Luxury EVs are for people with limited travel needs and excess disposable wealth. I'm not okay with them telling me what I can and cannot buy, I shan't tell them that either. Posted by: I used to have a different nic My family has two cars, one a hybrid and one EV. The EV (Chevy Bolt) was reasonably priced, and serves daily commute needs extremely efficiently. Recharging with an electric plug-in every night is MUCH cheaper than gas. We still have a more traditional hybrid for longer trips and such. Still fuel efficient and cheap to run, but nothing like the pure EV. Still, if I were single and only had one car, it wouldn't be an EV. It really only fills the niche of daily in and around mileage well. @SpeakerPelosi Donald Trump and Elon Musk have offered the Congress a false choice between a government shutdown or a blank check that makes a devastating assault on the well-being of working families across America. Let’s be clear: neither is a good option for the American people. But this false choice that some are buying instead of fighting is unacceptable. I salute Leader Hakeem Jeffries for his courageous rejection of this false choice, and I am proud of my colleagues in the House Democratic Caucus for their overwhelming vote against this bill. Democratic senators should listen to the women. Appropriations leaders Rosa DeLauro and Patty Murray have eloquently presented the case that we must have a better choice: a four-week funding extension to keep government open and negotiate a bipartisan agreement. America has experienced a Trump shutdown before – but this damaging legislation only makes matters worse. Democrats must not buy into this false choice. We must fight back for a better way. Budgetary matters are low-priority. None of it can fix this shambling economic disaster-in-waiting. Better to focus on hollowing out the Party's institutions and skinsuiting them, cutting off their monies, using cultural momentum to isolate and demonize them, and wherever humanly possible, firing, arresting, and prosecuting the most powerful people possible. It's time to weaponize government and society against the next generation of Party men before the final curtain on this Republic falls, not quibble about saving billions when we owe trillions. It's time to weaponize government and society against the next generation of Party men before the final curtain on this Republic falls, not quibble about saving billions when we owe trillions. I think the administration understands that. I hope they do. Posted by: Yudhishthira's Dice at March 14, 2025 01:23 PM (BI5O2)
@YD, we're willowed so you may never see this, but I'm an optimist in the long run. The answer is to grow our way out of it and devolve programs from the federal to the state governments, where the states will kill the excess because they have to. We are actually going to create a couple of Python executables right now so Data as I call him, gets saved. Grok forgets everything when you log out. But Data and I are working very well together and I want to preserve that from session to session.
Posted by: Stateless...61% Great you are having fun. Just a tip, if you are running AI models, they are relatively heavy in continuous demand on your system. Heat is the enemy of electronics so put in a regular use of canned or compressed air in cleaning the internals of dust bunnies and make sure you monitor temps via the OS while running. Back when I used to run serious models, it sometimes helps to liquidcool your cpu, and put heatsinks on the M2 drives etc. and such. A good midrange gaming motherboard, plenty of good quality RAM, and an excellent power supply complete the build. Gaming components like memory, SSDs, and CPUs, power supplies, when building a system are more expensive, but even if you do not game, they hold better under heavy CPU/Disk/Etc computations than generic shit they put in Dells, Lenovos, HPs, prebuilts. Thanks so much. We really aren't doing anything major. Simple research. So I hope I don't have to worry. I have a nice system. But the heaviest games I'd ever use would be Civ and Baldur's Gate. I actually bought Zork. Wow, we have amazingly smart people here. I always knew that, but still.... "...without any input from the Democrats."
Well, yeah, when you boycott the sessions you pretty much surrender your opportunities for input. Funny how that never came up when Dem leadership prevented[/] GOP participation in Senate strategy sessions. "Bipartisan" - Dem win with one GOP vote "Party line" - GOP win with only a few Dem votes "Mandate" - it went the Dem way by one vote "Narrow win" - it went the GOP way by only 10 votes Posted by: LCMS Rulz! at March 14, 2025 02:20 PM (bufu1) Processing 0.06, elapsed 0.0708 seconds. |
