Sefton: sefton at cutjibnewsletter.com | Inflation Is Cut By More Than Half In Trump's First Month In OfficeHe said inflation would start coming down "on day one." Promise kept! The last reading on inflation under the Usurper Zombie was 5.7%, annualized. Trump's first reading is 2.4%, annualized. In his first full month back in office, Trump oversaw a sharp slowdown in inflation, which fell more than expected in February. The monthly rate dropped by more than half from January under Biden as gas prices declined, energy costs eased, and core inflation hit a four-year low--early signs that Trump's policies are already making an impact. Key Details: February's monthly CPI increase of 0.2% was lower than expected, well below January's 0.5% under former President Joe Biden. Core inflation, which strips out volatile food and energy prices, came in at 3.1% annually--its lowest level in four years. Energy prices dipped 0.2% in February, with gasoline prices falling 3.1%, offering relief to American consumers. Diving Deeper: Inflation took a noticeable step down in February, delivering an early economic win for the Trump administration just a month into his return to the White House. The Bureau of Labor Statistics reported Wednesday that consumer prices rose 0.2% over the month and 2.8% year-over-year, both coming in below economists' expectations. Core inflation, which excludes food and energy, also slowed to a 3.1% annual increase--its lowest level in four years--signaling that price pressures are easing. E.J. Antoni, an economist at the Heritage Foundation, pointed to this dramatic reversal, noting on X that inflation had "reaccelerated since January of last year" before plummeting under Trump. His analysis shows that price growth, which had been stubbornly high throughout Biden's presidency, immediately slowed once Biden left office.

It turns out that they cooked the books under Biden, claiming that workers' wages were rising faster than the pace of inflation. Now that Biden's out, they "revise" the cooked books and admit that yes, inflation outstripped nominal wage gains and American workers grew poorer under Biden:

What is going to be a hoot, is IF DOGE actually can stop some Gov spending significantly... it will look like a recession as far as GDP is concerned.
Now, we know its just money being spent by Gov not really doing anything productive, but Gov spending still counts towards teh GDP, which is the only metric the MEDIA uses to measure stuff (because its easy). Expect doom headlines about recession soon. Posted by: Romeo13 at March 12, 2025 12:11 PM (QAkQ3) 17

Now that we are in season 2 of the Trump show, I like to start with a read of the day's executive orders and Presidential actions.
The notable one for today is: Ensuring the Enforcement of Federal Rule of Civil Procedure 65(c) "In recent weeks, activist organizations [ . . .] have obtained sweeping injunctions [ . . . ]" "The effective administration of justice [ . . . ] depends on mechanisms that deter frivolous litigation, protect parties from unwarranted costs, and streamline judicial processes. One key mechanism is Federal Rule of Civil Procedure 65(c) (Rule 65(c)), which mandates that a party seeking [injunction] provide security in an amount that the court considers proper to cover potential costs and damages to the enjoined or restrained party if the injunction is wrongly issued. . . " "[T]he heads of executive departments and agencies [ . . .] are directed to ensure that their respective agencies properly request under Rule 65(c) that Federal district courts require plaintiffs to post security equal to the Federal Government’s potential costs and damages from a wrongly issued injunction . . . It's a whole other thing staffing it. Add that to other departments like the EPA and DoEd. Also, anyone know how many of the 81,000 IRS agents was ever hired? About 17,000. Building up takes time. People are spending money...which eventually pulls it out of circulation as manufacturers and corporations eventually secure profits from that spent money and invest it in improvements, new employees, research and development, reserves, diversification etc. The dollar regains value as less liquidity is floating around. Competition increases as consumer's "appetites" increase. Bingo...prices start to adjust to attract consumers (IOW, decrease).
Consumer Confidence, IMO, is one of the most potent and telling factors of a large economy. Posted by: Orson at March 12, 2025 12:59 PM (dIske) 290

Boss Moss, I loved corned beef, it cooks really well in a crockpot or baked in one of those oven bags. It is salty, fatty goodness on a plate, I like it with the carrots and onions, not a fan of cabbage though.

Cornbeef is lower than ground beef this week. Any good? I don't know how to cook it.
Posted by: Boss Moss at March 12, 2025 01:03 PM (vDK5Y) dead simple, Rinse it, put it in a crock pot with the fat top up , on medium heat for six hours with chopped onions, carrots, potatoes and maybe garlic. Bring it out, let it cool a bit, and slice it. Serve with veggies, and gravy like a pot roast. There are more complicated recipes, but this one works. I save the liquid and use it eventually for cooking dried beans, it is generally too salty for anything else. Posted by: Kindltot at March 12, 2025 01:16 PM (D7oie) 373

Posted by: Debby Doberman Schultz at March 12, 2025 01:15 PM People make the mistake of throwing all the veg in at the same time. You have to space it out so everything is properly cooked. The have the most sought after Passport on the planet. Something like 180+ country destinations don't require a VISA with and Irish passport. And yet, it wasn't too long ago that they were the premier terrorists (IRA) on the planet, and every week you'd read about some poor Brit being blown up.
Posted by: Orson at March 12, 2025 01:12 PM (dIske) Ireland has never had a beef with anyone in modern history, and has been an incredibly peaceful country historically. I think most of the world recognizes that the IRA was representing ethnic Irish people to try to overthrow an occupying army. And even then, the tactics were pretty mild compared to, say, Muslim terrorists. Like putting a bomb in a garbage can, then calling the cops to have them evacuate the area before detonating it. That kind of thing. Put another way: if the US had not been successful in overthrowing British rule, then George Washington would be in the history books as a terrorist. So... shrug. Oh man, +1 on those oven bags. Some potatoes and carrots and onion soup mix and a can of cream of mushroom if you like that thicker texture over a thin au jus type of liquid and you've got a great meal.
I like to make mashed potatoes with that, too. Because what's the point in having all them juices and gravy if you don't have something to put it on?
