Republicans Scramble to Pass "Clean" Continuing Resolution Bil
CR Passes 217-213

continuingresolutionvote.jpg

Conservative Brief
@ConservBrief

BREAKING NOW

Houses of Representatives PASSES Continuing Resolution Bill by a vote of 217-213.

Bill now heads to the Senate.

I saw Thomas Massie once again declared he will not vote for any budget, but Chip Roy xeeted favorably of this one.

Someone at Hot Air pointed out that if Democrats do force a shutdown, it will beTrump deciding which programs get priority and get funded during the shut-down, and which are drained of all money.

That is a not-so-bad backup plan.

The Hill:

House Republicans are racing to pass their bill by 11:59 p.m. EDT Friday to avert a government shutdown, teeing up a final vote on the legislation Tuesday afternoon.

The chamber voted 216-214 to adopt a rule -- which governs debate on legislation -- for Speaker Mike Johnson's (R-La.) continuing resolution. The measure would keep the government funded through Sept. 30.

It's unknown whether the bill will have enough support to pass, as Rep. Thomas Massie (R-Ky.) has maintained he would not vote in favor of it. Several other Republicans are undecided, even after hearing support from Vice President Vance.

Democrats are expected to oppose the legislation in large numbers as they raise concerns about the cuts included in the bill. Meanwhile, Senate Democrats are cautious about blocking the funding bill, fearing a government shutdown could backfire on them politically.

And as usual, that's the only thing they care about.

Notice the media is now making the case for a shutdown -- while in the past, they've screamed that the country would be destroyed by a shutdown. Anything to prop up their degenerate Communist party.

Only 29% of voters support a shutdown -- almost all of them #Resistance progressives who will do anything to thwart Trump and his voters.

The vote is in progress, now:

We had guys like that in the Legislature back in the day. Everyone hated them. There was no point in even talking to them.

The one modifying factor that makes me not feel so bad about that is that a lot of the wasted money was discretionary slush fund spending that the heads of the agencies can kill without legislation, such as Lee Zeldin is doing at EPA. It would be better to legislate it out of existence, but it's manageable for the time being.

He doesn't approve of CRs. Won't vote for them. That's pretty stupid.

He's having the moment of his lifetime. With three more GOP seats, he can go vote against everything and no one cares. Same when the Dems are in majority.

So basically, he has an historic opportunity to shift things to the right, but it's against his principles to be pragmatic.

92 The one modifying factor that makes me not feel so bad about that is that a lot of the wasted money was discretionary slush fund spending that the heads of the agencies can kill without legislation, such as Lee Zeldin is doing at EPA. Makes you think, doesn't it?

And in the 40 years of Republicans talking about cutting government spending, it's weird how none of them ever thought to turn off the grift that is funding basically a shadow government (USAID for example)? Or at least campaign on that premise?

Weird.

Actually, I think a CR works more in Trump favor.

If they didn't allocate money by law, then Trump is not "breaking the law" by altering it's function.

Congress is just shoveling money at the executive to "keep the government running". So, who has absolute control of the executive?

The President.

(Which is why the PPACA was a joke giving special powers to the Secretary of HHS)

You got to remember how President Obama went out of his way to put covers over things and blockages and outlaying money to make sure that nobody could enjoy National Parks and monuments during a time of "government shut down (cuz of the money!)"

Those weren't expenses mandated by anybody.

I'm saying that due to civil service protections, unions, our dear congress and their silly laws, and a lot of caselaw on the subject, people who work for the government have a lot of avenues to sue if they lose their jobs.

There are ways to make it harder for former employees to sue. The quickest and most constitutionally accepted way is to just eliminate their jobs by not funding them in the first place.

Posted by: Nova Local at March 11, 2025 06:08 PM (exHjb)

Here's the issue. Money is created when banks use fractional Lending... that is not in dispute. The more lending, the more money is created. When more money is created, than actual good generation, you get inflation... as more money goes to buy the same amount of goods.

Problem is that now more than half the total debt load of the US is Fed, State, and Local Gov... more than combined Business and Personal debt. As Gov debt is determined by Politics, not the interest rate... the Feds can't do crap about it by raising the interest rate.

The tipping point has been reached IMO... where unless you can actually significantly decrease gov Debt... high inflation is inevitable... only way out is to actually grow product creation... so you are creating more actual wealth, than money creation... but that is going to be tough.

However, if enough of us express out dissatisfaction, MAYBE some of Trumps people will tell Trump he's feeling "pressure from his right" as well as the constant pressure he feels from the left, and that might matter when we're talking about the next CR in six months. Maybe.

Agreed. Not ever - since Reagan - have I heard or read the MFM promote a Federal shutdown as a positive development. It simply hasn't happened. The strategy was ALWAYS to demonize the conservative position that Federal bloat was a lie and EVERYTHING was essential. An evergreen tool to attack the Right of the GOP.

So the MFM has just acknowledged explicit membership and obedience to the DNC. We've known this allegiance for decades, but this is blatant, obvious, and wholly expected from the well of hacks we now laugh at and fart in their general direction.

If the R's in Congress were ignorant about how USAID money was being used, specifically for funding bringing illegal immigrants to the us, paying for organizations that worked against them as a party, giving millions to Dem media operations, not to mention a whole of corruption, why aren't they tripping over each other to get in front of microphones to denounce their outrage while they're marching to Congress to immediately vote on cutting that funding?

Instead, they're voting to keep the money in place. And acting like the USAID stuff is no big deal.

I mean, I don't know what other conclusion to draw here.

- Their names are available in various databases (FederalPay.org, FedsDataCenter.com, various staff directories). This is not doxxing; it's listing job titles and names.

333 Massie is right. How many fucking people supported the last CR when it included a 40% pay increase for congress because it was being proposed by Republicans?

Posted by: ryukyu at March 11, 2025 06:39 PM (251iY)

334 I'm not gonna blame Massie for trying to make it more difficult for the same old shit we have been doing in defiance of the law that congress has to pass a budget.

If the leadership cared as they should, they should work on something that would satisfy him. or work on voting in more Republicans. Ritual whining doesn't cut it.
Posted by: Oldcat at March 11, 2025 06:21 PM (n7h9X)

I agree with him but I didn't vote for Massie for President . His grandstanding only hurts what Trump is trying to do. Would he have voted no if he was the deciding vote? That's the question I want someone to ask him and his answer is how I would view him.

342 Not sure why it's a good thing to vote to continue to fund the government at the present bloated corrupt horrendous inflation-causing levels as always.

How on earth is this a good thing?

So despite all the identification by DOGE of horrendous items that they are spending OUR money on, "Republicans" just voted to CONTINUE those things.

Posted by: Igor at March 12, 2025 07:25 AM (gKoGo)

343 Massie as McCain doesn't work. McCain was about going Left to betray the Republican conservatives. Evidently from this thread, Massie wants to go right. This means the other Rs are betraying the Conservatives. Which is, of course, no big surprise. The people who argue that the Conservatives are the real RINOs have a point. The R party is left center.
