Today is National Mario (MAR10) Day

National Mario Day on Mar 10 recognizes an iconic character from a popular video game. The character, known today as Mario, first appeared in 1981 in a game called Donkey Kong made by Nintendo.
Dedicated fans knew Mario before his time as a plumber. At his creation, Donkey Kong portrays Mario as a carpenter named Jumpman. Then in 1983, Nintendo launched a new game in which bad guy Jumpman reinvents himself into an Italian plumber who rescues princesses.
Italian plumbers, Mario and his brother Luigi face numerous obstacles in the games produced by Nintendo. Over the years, gammers help Mario cross several different landscapes all to rescue Princess Toadstool or Princess Peach, depending on which game they play. No matter the kingdom or galaxy, video game fans find the games entertaining and challenging. Many will admit, they find the characters endearing. The storylines provide hours of fun and continue to be a part of the pop culture landscape.

Iconic is often in the eye of the beholder. For gamers, Mario is definitely iconic in the truest sense of the word, right up there with other characters like Link, Master Chief, Solid Snake, Gordon Freeman, etc. Outside of that circle, not iconic at all, just moderately well known.

79 Sheepshead were looked on with disdain for eating, but if you carefully filet them and get rid of the bones and darker meat they are very good, breaded and deep fried in very hot oil. Also, the lowly but plentiful carp is good processed in the same way and smoked. Friend's father catches a few now and then and fires up the smoker. I think he said he's using apple wood.

80 In middle school we'd walk to Arnold's restaurant* and play Donkey Kong. Would often get through all of lunch hour on a single quarter. They had several other machines but Tempest was the only other one worth playing.

*I have no idea what the place was called but it may still be there. They had the usual burgers, sod, fried chicken, etc. Never got anything there but did get a family pack of chicken years later.

I'm pretty sure that's based on a mathematical experiment that Thomas Sowell did years ago. I don't remember the ENTIRE world's population, but he did calculate city blocks and maybe 4 people per house of so-many square feet. Mind you, that was merely space; he didn't say where all the water and energy would come from and how you could build a sewage system that would handle such a large and dense settlement.

That's funny. I'm way behind on all this, but I've seen modern computer language constructs trying to keep track of units, some sort of generalized type. The idea is to be able to catch unit mismatches and all that.

In that case, it should have taken the unit of average volume of human body as "volume per person" which would've cancelled the "person" unit and the final unit would've been just length.

In that vein, the other day I had cause to look at USCG regulations/specifications re life jackets. Kind of interesting, but complex (it's a bureaucracy, right?). The most common blue water personal flotation device is what has been termed by the USCG as a 'Level 70'. See

Near red/Infrared might help. Tanning salons often have beds for red light.

You might try sitting in the early morning sun ( before 10, to avoid UV!) for 15 minutes each day, to see if you notice any improvement. If so, you could look in to a bulb, or device.

IIRC years ago Elon said no Tesla ICE or hybrids because it would be going backwards in relation to the electrification goals to reduce emissions and reliance on fossil fuel.

Pull up Google Maps, search for Lincoln City, OR, switch to satellite view. You'll see Devil's Lake east of town. The bottom narrows down and the outlet is the D River, which runs under US101 for about a hundred yards then through the beach into the Pacific Ocean.
For the comparison, do the same for Great Springs Fish Hatchery. Just sw of it is Great Springs, and what they want to call a river is the 100 ft of concrete channel running NW into the Missouri.

Yeah, they were pretty much the opposite ends of styles of "artist" and "backups". Listen to the Raylettes, turn down the sound and watch the Coconuts.
Saw Ray and the Raylettes a couple of times in the late 50s, early 60s. Never caught Kid Creole live. But I did see Ike and Tina live once. That was more to the Coconut side.

FWIW...

When doing a large / broad audit it is doctrine to start with high dollar line items and work your way down. At 5-15% into the line items you call it representive with high confidence for the remainding lower dollar items being equally jacked.

They might be able to trim another 1.5x to 2.0x as they go, with rapidly diminishing returns.
On that the headline suggests looking at almost $2T... But over how many years. Not to disparge but the 2% means they are half-way there w/o regard to years.

Good morning, JQ,

I don't *need* to be at work for 6 am either. I get up about 2:40 most work mornings so I can either work out or have a pipe, and get to the office early to avoid traffic and get a parking space. Weekends I try for 5 am for the same workout/pipe reasons. After I retire, I may stay with that or try to sleep luxuriously until 6 am. Depends on when I go to bed and how my sleep cycle works out.

How are things in the high dry NW?

Couple that with BitDefender on the router, and I feel pretty secure from misadventure.

My only issue is that Netgear routers do not accept any other VPN install on the router, which would eliminate any need to load the VPN software on each individual computer on the house side of the router.

Gotta try to noodle that one out.
